Summer Walker’s “Ex For A Reason” Gets Mixed Reactions

The crowd is torn. Summer Walker’s new single “Ex For A Reason,” featuring JT of City Girls fame, has met with mixed reactions from fans. Those same fans hadn’t heard from Walker for over a year, with her last release being the 2020 EP Life on Earth.

However, earlier this month, the trailer for her new album Still Over It debuted on YouTube. Summer Walker stans raised a glass and then met this latest single. The “Ex For A Reason” is the first taste of what we can expect from Still Over It. Unfortunately, some reviewers are already ‘over it.’

A fall for Summer Walker?

The track, at least on paper, has everything it needs to succeed. Producers on the song include the likes of Buddah Bless and Sean Garrett. Bless has blessed numerous hit singles for artists like 2 ChainzYoungboy NBA, and the Travis Scott-led JackBoys. Garrett also boasts a massively successful musical arsenal. He has produced and composed for Britney Spears, Mario, a very early Nicki Minaj, Ciara, and more. He is also a co-writer on Usher’s galaxy-sized hit “Yeah!”. Joining the fray is JT, one half of the rap duo City Girls. Coming off of the 2020 success of City on Lock, JT seems a good, powerful addition to Walker’s lead-off single.

And then, of course, there’s Summer Walker. What do you say about someone who goes Platinum with their debut album and then shatters the record for biggest streaming-week debut for a female R&B singer? You have high expectations, of course. While the Twitter-verse indeed expects the best, they must also run a stockyard because they’ve got plenty of beef, too.

Some expressed mild disappointment:

Others were a little more…forward.

Still others expressed that rarest of Twitter traits: positivity and gratitude.

What do you think of “Ex For A Reason”? Let us know and stay tuned for coverage on Still Over It!

Summer Walker Drops Trailer for Latest Project

Summer Walker’s trailer for Still Over It came out, and fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Last week the hip hop recording artist and new mom finally announced the highly anticipated release of her latest project.

But while Walker has had enough and is undeniably Still Over It, her fans are far from over her.  In fact, her fans can’t get enough. But who can blame them? Walker has more than earned her fandom.

Summer Walker’s journey

According to an artist biography, Walker’s discovery was like something out of a fairy tale. In a moment of fate or luck, everything came together. A source indicates that a studio manager discovered the artist accidentally stumbling upon her work while conducting a self-search. But while it was fate that led to her discovery, it was Walker’s impressive body of work that landed her a 2018 contract with Interscope. And the rest is history.

Summer Walker’s fandom

Since her discovery, Walker has proven that she has the “it” factor. Not more than a year after her debut, Walker released her first album, Over It. The album was an outstanding success. According to allmusic.com, Over It was so well received that it rose straight up the charts. The album came in impressively at number two on the Billboard 200. Still, the fans could not get enough. As hotnewhiphop notes, “fans didn’t waste a moment before pleading for  her sophomore album.

Cluing them in

Last week Walker gave her fans all the clues they needed. On October fourth social media was jumping after the release of  Summer Walker’s new trailer hinting at the release of Still Over It. But there were more exciting tidbits to follow. Walker once again turned up the hype with additional details about the project.  On October 12, Walker addressed the public via Twitter with the mention of  another project single, “Ex for a Reason.” And the single features JT.

Something Special

From the new trailer, it seems that fans are in for something special.  According to the artist, Still Over isn’t just your ordinary album; it is a story. And everyone loves a good story, especially one with an unforgettable conclusion? And according to hotnewhiphop, Walker has that covered too. In addition, the last single of the album will reportedly include a special feature by Ciara for an extra delight.

Despite all that is going on in Walker’s life, she has worked on releasing quite a project. And for fans who can’t contain their excitement much longer, the wait will soon be over. According to sources, the 20-track album will drop on November 1. But for those looking for a taste, “Ex for a Reason” is set to drop this Friday, October 15.

Summer Walker Teases New Song on Instagram

Summer Walker surprises her new fans by playing a snippet of unreleased music in an Instagram video

Summer Walker is gearing up to (hopefully) release new music! On Instagram, the Atlanta artist played snippets of an unreleased song with the caption, “Comment 💔 if you ready to smoke cry & sing lol.” This had many fans speculating in the comments. The anticipation over a new album has built for months. Walker has been dropping singles and staying active on social media. She also recently collaborated on a hot track with fellow musician SZA. Indeed, her fans remain patiently waiting for the release of a Summer Walker album. However, the vagueness of her Instagram post left them with more questions.

Along with the music teasers, Summer is also busy with her new baby

Summer and producer London on da Track recently had a child. Last week, they posted their first pictures of the baby girl on Instagram. In addition to her musical abilities and time spent in the studio, Summer is also spending time with her new daughter. This is likely the reason her upcoming album is taking its time. With her juggling being a new parent and making songs for her audience, Summer Walker’s capabilities are always impressive. We know how strong and capable she is, and how much it will shine through her music!

#FMSPOTLIGHT: Singer/Songwriter JerzeySon is bringing music to our ears

Singer/Songwriter JerzeySon is bringing music to our ears. The Nigerian-American artist has raised the bar with his smooth sound and afrobeat tempo, causing any woman to give him a call on the weekdays. His MTV Base Africa featured song and music video ‘Callin’ was inspired by his journey of what some might consider “struggle love”.

“I see you Callin/But you only call on the weekends
Only text back when you’re creeping/I ain’t a fool
Cant play by your rules.”

 jerzeyson

New Jersey is where some of his musical roots were birthed. His passion for music and songwriting emerged at the tender age of 10 after the City of New Jersey featured a story about a poem he wrote in the newspaper. Ever since then, the rest is history, and JerzeySon’s artistry is being highlighted on the most influential platforms.

Last Friday, he opened for international singer Davido in Dallas, Texas. Davido has worked with the likes of Lil Baby, Teyana Taylor, and Summer Walker. Davido recently performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live and the hit remake movie ‘Comin 2 America’.

When asked how JerzeySon landed such a phenomenal opportunity, he said,

“I worked with my booking manager Bobby Show with BME nightlife. My team believed in me and was able to manifest the opportunity.” He also went on to say how Davido has impacted his career.

“Davido has shown there is a market for afro-fusion nationally. He shows the world that the African market is here to stay and impact the music industry.”

The fantastic visual directed by Will Fairbanks of TORP, engineered and produced by Tolu and Ptunes, gave us a versatile feel of JerzeySon’s native roots and hip-hop culture. He is grateful for his team, family, friends, and supporters but gives God credit for his success.

JerzeySon is ecstatic and believes he’s on the right trajectory for his career. With his second EP ‘Native 2’ releasing this Spring, there’s no telling what’s in store for JerzeySon next. Let’s keep our eyes on him.

10 Artist Buzzin This Week…

Six days into 2021 and it seems like everybody’s in their bag. It’s so inspiring to see everybody starting the 1st quarter off so strong.  I need this energy all year around. But until then, here are 10 artist buzzin’ this week:

1.TOOSII

I don’t know if it’s just me but it seems like Toosii came out of nowhere and started killing the game. He recently released a 6 track EP entitled DICKPRESSED which starts off with his hit singles “Sapiosexual” and “Love Cycle” featuring Summer Walker. Those tracks are followed by 4 more songs that are all a vibe. When was the last time you heard an EP you could listen to without skipping a track?

2.STERL GOTTI

Sterl Gotti is Detroit’s secret weapon. Although, the city makes noise right now on an Independent level. I truly believe Sterl Gotti is going to be the artist that brings attention to the city on a major level. He’s co-signed by Winner Circle, putting his production on a higher level. 2021 is guaranteed his year.

 3.POOH SHIESTY

Memphis native Pooh Shiesty gained a lot of attention in a little bit of time. Back in April, he was signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 after only rapping for about two years. Pooh Shiesty has also been featured on tracks with people like Lil Baby and Money Bagg Yo. His recent single “Back In Blood” with Chicago’s Lil Durk continues to go up.

4.DESS DIOR

Most people know Dess Dior for being best friends with Jayda Cheaves and most recently her relationship with Future. Aside from that, Dess is a rapper who talks that Rich shit. She was recently featured on a Christmas song with Coi Leray and Maliibu Miitch. I personally can’t wait to watch her prove all the people wrong who think she’s just some Instagram girl.

5.RUBI ROSE

https://youtu.be/X09KMQ0f3Ss

Rubi Rose has a very distinctive voice that everybody loves. She’s super pretty and petite so you wouldn’t expect it from her; which makes the voice so much better.  She recently released a project entitled For The Streets. After listening to the intro, I gained a lot of respect for her. I think 2021 will be the year that people put some respect on her name as an artist.

 6.MAXREALLYREAL

https://youtu.be/cQiyzhCn70k

Brownsville’s MaxReallyReal is really a vibe. I just discovered him on clubhouse but apparently I’m late. After doing some research it seems like he’s been buzzing in NYC for about a year or so now.  In 2021, I’m expecting him to be buzzing everywhere. He’s most known for drill songs and has features with NY favorites like Banko Black, Eli Fross and Sosa Geek. About a week ago, he hit everybody with a plot twist, when he released “Ocean/Thought You Loved Me”; proving he’s a versatile artist.

 7.SUKIHANA

To be honest, Sukihana recently pissed me off with one of her shenanigans.  Since then I low key tapped her off my radar but I can’t deny what the people are talking about. A few weeks ago, Cupcakke dropped a diss track toward a few female rappers and Sukihana was the only one to respond. I respect that because I’m a firm believer that diss tracks are apart of Hip Hop. Last week, Sukihana followed up with her single “No One” showing a softer side of her.

  8.NEEK BUCKS

Neek Bucks has been putting on for Harlem for some time now. A few months ago, he linked with Stunna Gambino for “Voice” which is almost at 400k views on Youtube. I’ve personally never been disappointed by a Neek Bucks release. 2021 is going to be the year the world sees his worth.

9.BILLY BLEU

New York was shocked when they found out that Billy Bleu was expecting a child. She’s a lot of rap girls’ goals and a lot of rap guys’ fantasies. Some people doubted that she could make a comeback but this week she let everybody know she’s back with a vengeance. I’m super excited to see what she brings to the table 2021.

10. E DOT BABY

Edot Baby is a 15 year old from Sugar Hill in Harlem. Every time I listen to him rap, I’m shocked that a 15 year old is reciting these lyrics. Nonetheless, I cannot deny that he’s hard. I’m just waiting for someone to snatch him up and sign him to their label.

Summer Walker Launches Ghetto Earth Records, Signs First Artist

Pregnant and still making boss moves. The Girls Need Love Too singer is using her platform to help other artists break out into the music industry by creating her own record label.

The platinum-selling artist says, the name of the record label comes from her own convictions of how life on earth is and how an ideal living environment on earth should be. “I came up with Ghetto Earth because earth is ghetto.” The singer said in a statement. “I don’t wanna be controlling over my artist’s music. I want them to be fully involved in everything they put out. I’m just here to support and help them get to wherever it is they’re trying to go in life.” she told Billboard.

Not only has she started her label, but she signed her first artist– singer/songwriter NO1-NOAH, who was featured on her “SWV” and “White Tee.”

Noah says he is excited to to be apart of the label. “I’m excited to show people my music and what I have to offer. “I feel like being on Summer’s team, Ghetto Earth Records, is the right home for me to be as creative as possible as an artist. She’s really understanding of what a true artist is, as she is one herself. I’m free to create here, and it’s always a great feeling as an artist to be able to make music for a team that gets the sound that you’re trying to create.”

You can expect new music from NO1-NOAH dropping today.

I
