Lizzo Goes Off On Texas Anti Trans Policies And Abortion Laws

It looks like Lizzo had some words for Texas lawmakers Sunday night. The Truth Hurts singer was the keynote speaker at South by Southwest, Austin’s annual cultural and music conference. Using her platform, she criticized the state’s recent policies regarding abortions and transgender people.

Lizzo shared a clip of her interview with Angela Yee discussing the issue on Twitter.

“Who is protecting us from lawmakers’ biases? Your personal beliefs shouldn’t be reflected in the laws that are supposed to protect all Americans,” the caption read. “We have politicized bodies for far too long in this country. It’s time to focus on real issues and mind ya business. Thank u SBSW.”

The video also shared Lizzo saying, “I’m proud to rep Houston, but I’m not proud to rep Texas politics right now.” The Grammy winner’s message garnered huge applause from the audience.

Lizzo addresses state policies

In late February, Texas governor Greg Abbott issued a directive to investigate families who seek gender-affirming care for their children. Additionally, the order also encouraged Texans to report these families to child services for abuse allegations.

However, District Judge Amy Clark Meachum issued a temporary injunction against the directive on Friday. In addition, Lizzo also attacked the state’s abortion laws, which make it illegal to have an abortion after six weeks.

“We got a lotta other things y’all need to be handling instead of y’all being in people’s homes and telling them what to do with their bodies and being all up in their uteruses,” Lizzo said. “The abortion ban is atrocious as well. Mind your business. Stay out of my body.”

Lizzo on self-love

Outside of politics, Lizzo touched on other topics including a new album as well as her self-love journey. The Houston native admitted that self-love did not come easy to her when talking about inspiration.

“It didn’t come easy. It came from a sense of deep loneliness. And it’s like, well if you’re by yourself, make the best of it. Fall in love with yourself. Be inspired by yourself. Big yourself up. And I think once I healed that, whatever that deep wound is maybe I inherited that wound of loneliness and not feeling worthy or lovable, once I did that I was able to see all of these people around me who had been giving me love my entire life.”

YoungBoy’s House In Texas Raided By SWAT

This afternoon news revealed that a SWAT team raided YoungBoy’s house in Houston, Texas. The house is on the same property where the artist’s mother lives.

According to TMZ, a Harris County Sheriff’s Office spokesman issued the warrant to search the residence. The raid resulted in arrests and the seizure of two weapons- a .45 caliber gun and a 9mm gun.

An HCSO representative says SWAT officers served a warrant at the YoungBoy’s home on the morning of Jan. 25, a day before the raid.

3 Defendants Charged With Possession Of Weapons

Roymellow Williams, Daryl Brown, and Carleon Gallien got under arrest during the raid. All charged with possession of firearms by a convicted felon and possession of unregistered firearms.

It remains unknown what kind of connection these men have with the rapper.

Police believe this raid is related to a November shooting that left one man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the someone shot the man multiple times in the body and head. He still managed to survive and get to the hospital.

YoungBoy’ s Arrest

In October of last year, the rapper was released after six months in jail for weapons possession after paying $500,000.

The rapper is currently in home confinement in Utah, so he did not witness the shooting and is not under arrest. It’s hard to say whether the mother was in residence at the time of the incident, so she’s not facing charges either.

Young Boy is currently awaiting trial on federal weapons charges.

Family of 9-Year Old Ezra Blount Declines Travis Scott Funeral Coverage

Ezra Blount, at 9-years old, was the youngest victim of the Astroworld Festival tragedy. He sustained major injuries to his liver, brain, and kidney, tragically passing away after a coma. He was laid to rest in Texas on Nov. 23. Travis Scott, in an attempt to console the families, reached out to cover funeral costs, but the Blount family has declined the assistance of the rapper.

On Monday Nov. 29, XXL shared a statement enclosed with legal documents from Scott’s attorneys. Expressly, Bob Hilliard, the attorney representing Erza’s family, responded with a letter to La Flame’s attorney, Daniel Petrocelli.

The letter from Blount’s family in response to Travis Scott’s offer

Dear Mr. Petrocelli,

The loss of a child is like a faucet of unimaginable pain that has no off handle. To lose a child in the manner Treston lost Ezra compounds the pain as a parent, Treston cannot help but agonize over the terrible idea that Ezra’s last minutes were filled with terror, suffering, suffocation and worst of all surrounded by strangers, his dad unconscious underneath the uncontrolled crowd.

I don’t know if you’re a father. I don’t know if your client is a father. If you are, then all you have to do is put your child at 9 years old in Ezra’s place and you both know what happens to your gut, at the most basic and instinctive level.

Your client’s offer is declined. I have no doubt Mr. Scott feels remorse. His journey ahead will be painful. He must face and hopefully see that he bears some of the responsibility for this tragedy. There may be, and I hope there is, redemption and growth for him on the other side of what this painful process will be—and perhaps one day, once time allows some healing for the victims and acceptance of responsibility by Mr. Scott and others, Treston and Mr. Scott might meet—as there is also healing in that. For now, Mr. Scott must respect the fact that his pain and his devastation pale to Treston’s, Ezra’s mom, and the other victims.

I thank you for your note and I offer the above respectfully and directly so as to be sure we share an understanding of the path ahead.

The tragic events of Astroworld

Clearly, the unexpected and preventable nature of Ezra Blount’s death has devastated his family. With this in mind, it is important to see the basis of their worry.

According to a statement from GoFundMe, Ezra’s father, Treston Blount, said other concertgoers crushed his son during the surge. Due to a lack of oxygen, he could not breathe. Blount said he fell with Ezra on his shoulders, passed out, and both were trampled by the crowd.

The 9-year-olds grandparents found him in the hospital following the event. CBS News reported the following statement on Sunday, from the family’s attorney:

“Ezra sustained life-threatening injuries and was placed in a medically induced coma on life support in an attempt to combat his brain, liver, and kidney trauma.”

“Ezra’s grandparents said they later found him alone at the hospital in a coma, suffering from significant organ damage and severe brain swelling.”

Travis Scott was Ezra’s favorite rapper. Although Scott may mean well, the Astroworld Festival has left many of his. biggest fans traumatized and devastated. One can only hope there he’ll respect the family’s wishes and take responsibility while they mourn the life of their innocent child.
