TEYANA TAYLOR RELEASES THE ALBUM (LISTEN)

Happy Juneteenth ladies and gents! Teyana Taylor has blessed this holiday and the world with her latest release. The R&B singer, songwriter, director, extraordinaire released her third studio album titled The Album.

The 23-song LP weaves through the different layers of her life as an artist, a mother, a wife, and simply as a strong Black woman. Taylor has created a star-studded lineup through her features on this project. The Album features her daughter, Junie, her husband, Iman, Queen Erykah Badu, Missy Elliott, Kehlani, Miss Lauryn Hill, Davido, and more.

“Depending on our emotion, we’ll choose certain songs to kind of create a playlist”, Taylor says to Apple Music, “What I wanted to do was pre-do that on the album where everything is broken up into sections, so the album kind of already comes playlisted”.

Taylor splits the album into 5 sections or ‘studios’ that utilize a different letter of the title and encompassing mood. Studio A is all about the lovey-dovey romance opening with the recording of the 911 call from the birth of Junie. The intro leads straight into the songs ‘Come Back To Me’, ‘Wake Up Love’, ‘Lowkey’ and ‘Let’s Build’.

Studio L transitions into the sensual side of Taylor with songs like ‘1800-One-Night’, ‘Morning’, ‘Boomin’, ‘69’. Studio B is all about expressing your self worth with the island flare of ‘Killa’, ‘Bad’, ‘Wrong Bitch’, ‘Shoot It Up’, and ‘Bare With Me’.

As the phase of her life continues, Studio U presents her vulnerability through love and loss. Taylor emotes with her melodic vocals in the ballad, ‘Lose Each Other’, ‘Concrete’, ‘Still’, ‘Ever Ever’. Lastly, Studio M showcases her triumphs with ‘Try Again’, ‘Friends’, ‘How You Want It’, ‘Made It’, and ‘We Got Love’.

Throughout the entire album, in true Teyana Taylor fashion, it is permeated with 90s R&B influences with different samples and interpolations such as ‘Next Lifetime’ in ‘Lowkey’ or ‘The Sweetest Thing’ in ‘Ever Ever’. Ultimately, Teyana Taylor has orchestrated a full length body of work that is thought provoking, heartfelt and beautiful.
