MF DOOM is back. This Halloween weekend, in commemoration of the late rapper, his estate is organizing a tribute. The benefit event, called DOOMSDAY, will occur in San Francisco on October 31st, just a year after MF Doom’s death.
MF DOOM’s estate hosts tribute Fundraiser on the one year anniversary of the rappers death.
According to Hype Beast, DOOMSDAY, held at 701 Valencia Street, will feature over 30 artists and offer DOOM-inspired art pieces. In addition, DJs Abby Imperial, Cutso, Jerry Nice, and King promised to deliver “Supervillain specialist soundtracks.”
On December 31st, MF DOOM’s wife announced via Instagram that the artist – real name, Daniel Dumile – “transitioned” on Halloween. “My world will never be the same without you… Words will never express what you and Malachi mean to me, I love both and adore you always. May THE ALL continue to bless you, our family and the planet. All my love,” signed Jasmine. As far as the cause of the 49-year-old’s death, fans are still waiting for an official announcement.
MF Doom’s Mask
US Todaystates that the rapper’s signature was always wearing the Marvel comic book villain Doctor Doom. He divulged it with the 1999 album “Operation: Doomsday.”
MF Doom was known for his masked appearance.
In Ta-Nehisi Coates’s “The Mask of Metal Face Doom,” MF Doom shared that he “wanted to get onstage and orate, without people thinking about the normal things… Like girls being like, ‘Oh, he’s sexy,’ or ‘I don’t want him, he’s ugly,’ and then other dudes sizing you up. A visual always brings a first impression. But if there’s going to be a first impression, I might as well use it to control the story. So why not do something like throw a mask on?”
Hip Hop Wired confirmed that 50% of the proceeds will go towards the rapper’s estate. Fans who wish to purchase memorabilia, which will benefit DOOM’s family and loved ones, should visit the Gas Drawls website.
