Travis Scott sends prayers to the families of the victims. The rapper has found himself under a tremendous amount of scrutiny following the cancellation of his Astroworld Festival. The Houston native shared his condolences and apology, thus following the moment his festival turned fatal.
The Astroworld Festival quickly became the most anticipated festival this season. Initially for its nostalgic qualities, its headliner Travis Scott, and elite performers. It has regrettably become the most horrific scene of the year. The festival began Friday, Nov. 5, and was set to continue through Nov. 6. The presumably large crowd gathered and waited outside of the festival grounds. As the show began, the public made their way inside.
The show, unfortunately, became fatal after a majority of the crowd began to storm the stage, thus leading to a stampede.
Maintaining The Integrity Of The Narrative
A security guard working the festival attempted to restrain someone when he felt a prick on his neck. He then lost consciousness, according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner.
As suspected, this event has caused many to speculate. What would cause the crowd to be so negligent of its own safety? It is no secret that drugs and alcohol make a humongous appearance at a music show of this caliber. There are reported overdose cases, and also heat exhaustion, alcohol poisoning, compressive asphyxiation. Allegedly, these are the main causes of victims’ unconsciousness. However, those are mainly rumors, which have not been confirmed.
“A lot of narratives are out there right now on social media,” Finner said. “I think that all of us need to be respectful of the families and make sure we follow the facts and the evidence.”
The youngest of the victims was 14. The others range from age 16 thru 27, Mayor Sylvester Turner said.
The investigation is ongoing and will remain reasonably open. All in all, the authorities have continued to handle this occurrence with care. Subsequently, families are encouraged to reach out to aid in locating lost family members.
