Tyler, the Creator debuts No. 1!

Tyler, the Creator debuted No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 with his latest studio offering, Call Me If You Get Lost. Tyler’s most recent album IGOR also debuted at No. 1 in 2019, making CMIYGL the second time he’s achieved this feat. Call Me If You Get Lost garnered 169,000 equivalent album units in the tracking week of July 1, according to Billboard. 114,000 of said units coming from streaming and 55,000 coming from official album sales. At the BET Awards, Tyler said, “I think a lot of people forget that I’m a rapper because I’m so multifaceted. I just had to remind everyone, ‘Don’t let the wig get it twisted, y’all n—as can’t f— with me.'”

The album dethroned Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR, which had previously been at number one for two weeks. This marks the second-highest rap launch of 2021, behind J. Cole’s The Off-Season, which debuted with 282,000 EAU.

Tyler, the Creator is on a media tear

In the last month before Tyler, the Creator debuted No.1 on Billboard, he has been steadily releasing content for fans. Tyler teased fans with an unconventional release method involving a slew of teasers and sketch videos on Instagram. In addition, singles like “LUMBERJACK,” and “WUSYANAME,” were released in advance, with music videos.

Tyler’s fashion label, Golf Wang, also issued a range of merchandise to coincide with the publication of Call Me If You Get Lost. Tyler did a pop-up gig at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn earlier this week. It was the venue’s first live performance since the outbreak.
