Usher & Justin Bieber Got A Lawsuit Coming Their Way
It seems like a lot of our favorite artists have been getting hit with copyright infringement lawsuits these days, and Usher and the Biebs are no different. Yesterday, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va. voted 3-0 to revive a 2013 lawsuit by singer Devin Copeland ( De Rico) and songwriter Mareio Overton.
According to Overton and Copeland, Biber’s song “Someone to Love” sounds just a wee bit too familiar. The song is a single off of Justin’s album My World 2.o.
“After listening to the Copeland song and the Bieber and Usher songs as wholes, we conclude that their choruses are similar enough and also significant enough that a reasonable jury could find the songs intrinsically similar,” Circuit Judge Pamela Harris wrote, via Reuters.
This isn’t the first time the duo has tried to get some money out of Bieber. In a prior lawsuit, which was dropped, the court ruled that the duo and Bieber’s songs sounded “noticeably different.” Ironically, the court found the opposite on Thursday.
