Footage of Kanye’s Video Shoot Behavior Released

TIME Magazine recently released footage of the studio experience with Kanye on filming “Slow Jamz!” Headlines read of Ye’s erraticism, noting Kanye’s behavior as spastic. While this is nothing new for Ye, one must view the video to precisely determine.

Ye’s Video

In the video, Kanye is shown chopping it up with several of the members of his production team. He is engaged in banter that can be seen as overly compulsive. Unfortunately, he comes off as very difficult to deal with. 

The footage is of a young West trying to make the video perfect. However, people are not doing it to his specifications. They had the wrong record, and West argued with a co-director over what scene to do next. He wants to do the scene in only one take. This is because they are closing in when they need to leave. 

Does that make Ye spastic or simply a perfectionist with hints of OCD? There is a fine line. 

Ye & Creative Control

Plastered over the footage is “property of Creative Control.” Creative Control is a music supervision, consultation, live event, and production company. 

They are one of the companies producing the series, alongside TIME Studios and Leah Natasha Productions. They probably gave TIME Studios the footage to clean up and edit into the rest of the series. 

The footage also already had some editing on it, seen by how they subtitled some of the lines that were harder to hear.

TIME most likely leaked the footage to build interest in the documentary. This tells people that there will be more footage, never before released in the documentary.

Ye’s Lifestyle

Kanye has been doing a lot; one can also say almost too much. There is not a week that Ye is not a part of the news cycle. And, the sad thing is the majority isn’t positive. However, FM Hip Hop published an article less than a day ago with a more positive overtone.

 Ye’s History

He also has a history of being reactionary. Remarkably, making headlines for erratic and unacceptable behavior isn’t new and almost expected given his itinerary over the last few months. Remember, this is only the third month of 2022. His latest album is out already, and he has been seen working with multiple artists on collaborations. Without a doubt, Ye stays busy, and given his work ethic and mentality, it can be extremely pressing.

Medical Condition

It has been noted that Kanye has dealt with issues medically that explain his shift between mental states. As a source notes in 2018, West opened up about his mental illness diagnosis. In his conversation, he labeled the mental condition as a superpower, 

“But like I said on the album,” he added, “it’s not a disability, it’s a superpower.”

He even went as far as including his disorder as part of his album artwork.

So this is not hidden. 

Absolving

 This does not wholly absolve Kanye of his behavior; it does offer a great deal of explanation. Overworking oneself does not help. To say Ye is spazzing in the video is a matter of interpretation. It seems the artist manages to keep it cool, even though he is super demanding. Then again, even Ye admits he is spazzing at 1:53 seconds. Truthfully this behavior is not uncommon amongst other celebrities as well. However, one cannot deny Ye’s own admission. He would know best.

In Conclusion

Sometimes it pays to give people a break and the benefit of the doubt. Once we have a more defined understanding of the level of pressure someone is under, we will be a little more understanding. Ye is also going to be Ye no matter the circumstances. The public is just going to have to take him as he entirely is, straight with no chaser.
