The City of Memphis is naming a street after the deceased Young Dolph, or Adolph Robert Thornton Jr.
City Councilman JB Smiley went to Dolph’s family for approval, which he obtained. The street name change will happen Wednesday, December 15. The event for it will occur at an intersection near the Memphis Depot Industrial Park.
“He sent the message that someone who went to the same schools as them, and walked the same streets that they do, was able to not only create a successful legacy for himself, but also prioritized family and community,” the family said in a statement.
Young Dolph’s Story
Adolph Thornton was born in Chicago, Illinois but cared for the Memphis community he was raised in. He gave out turkeys for Thanksgiving through the Memphis Athletic Ministries charity.
He went to schools to talk to children and donated money to his former high school, Hamilton High School.
Two masked gunmen pulled up in a white, two-door Mercedez Benz, and opened fire at the shop. According to witnesses, Dolph was on his way to pass out turkeys after buying cookies.
After his death, many fans went to Twitter to share their grief.
A day after the rapper’s death, another shooting occurred. Someone shot a man near Dolph’s memorial, but he survived the shot. Police detained and charged three people connected to the shooting.
