A memorial, erected after the death of rapper Young Dolph last year, might be coming down soon. The building he was shot in front of, Makeda’s Cookies, housed a memorial made by Dolph’s loved ones. However, the co-owner of the cookie shop, Pamela Hill, expressed reluctance at opening her store. Once the building owner, Lloyd White, heard about her hesitance, he made the decision to have the memorial removed.

A representative from Paper Route Empire, Dolph’s record label, told reporters a new monument will go up in a new location. Community organizer Frank Gotti who helped maintain the memorial said, “I understand it. It’s his building, and nobody can argue with him on that. I appreciate him for keeping it up this long.” Frank Gotti frequently visited the site along with Jeremiah Taylor. Unfortunately, Taylor died early last month and Memphis Police Department is still looking for those responsible.

More Information Surrounding Young Dolph’s Death

Memphis police identified two more suspects in Dolph’s death earlier this year. Officers Justin Johnson, Cornelius Smith, and Shundale Barnett within a month of each other. Memphis’ law enforcement organizations offered a 15,000 reward for information about the shooting. U.S. Marshal received over 500 tips regarding the case, spanning several cities including Indianapolis, Houston, and Atlanta.

After Dolph’s death, Hill recounted her encounters with the rapper and expressed sadness. “Just wanting to give, just wanting to change the whole world,” she said. “He was so sweet and so pleasant. He would just say, ‘Hey, ma,’ and when I called him Little Dolph, he would just smile.” Lloyd White on the other hand said having the shrine there was bad for business. “I feel like now it’s time for it to come down because it’s affecting me pretty bad. Some of my customers don’t like to be around this kind of stuff where it happens,” said White. Permission to move the site was given by Young Dolph’s family.
