Lil Uzi experienced a rise to fame early in his career thanks to his single “Money Longer” that made it to #92 on the Billboard Hot 100. He was also featured on Migos’ single “Bad and Boujee” which only added to his success. The single peaked at #1 on the charts and made Lil Uzi one of the most talked about rappers of the past few years. This past January, the rapper shockingly took to Instagram announcing that he is quitting music. Blaming his label, he posted on Instagram saying “I wanna be normal…I wanna wake up in 2013”. He also thanked his surprised fans for their support of his music.
Recently, it has come out that Jay-Z’s record label, Roc Nation, is swooping in to save the day. On Instagram Stories, the rapper has started the “Free Uzi” campaign. He is representing his need to get out of his current record deal with DJ Drama and Don Cannon’s label, Generation Now. In one of his Instagram stories, he tagged Roc Nation thanking them.
Uzi says his label has been keeping him from releasing his newest record, Eternal Awake. According to DJ Drama, he is allowed to release the record any time he wants and the rapper has his total support.
