JAY-Z on DMX Stories & Many More

JAY-Z delivered a detailed scope in his latest appearance on the “HBO’s The Shop”. He shared many stories within hip hop along with a balance of his personal experiences. Other Familiar faces were in this episode, Bad Bunny, Lebron James, Maverick Carter, Paul Rivera and Nneka Ogwumike. We were able to get a full scope into JAY-Z’s experiences. JAY went back to talk about his 2017 studio album “4:44” having an impact in saving other rappers relationships.

“To be vulnerable in that space when you’ve done all this work and your ego tells you that you don’t have to, but then nobody else heals,” Hov said. “So many super gangsta rappers come up to me and tell me on the side, ‘Yo, you saved my relationship.’ It was needed.”

At one point JAY-Z gave us an explanation about the track “smile”. In the song he referred to deep feelings in the relationship with his mother and her sexuality. Hov told great stories from the late great DMX on his Hard Knock life tour in 1998. He touched on DMX’s energy when performing and how the crowd was able to feel his presence and connect, making them go crazy. He also explained how DMX was the reason why he decided to Boycott the Grammys in 1999. Jay Stated, “We both came out that year, he didn’t even get nominated. He had two albums, two number-one albums in the same year. They didn’t even nominate him. I won that year, for Rap Album”.

Episode 4 was great, and many others feel the same. JAY-Z is not active on social media platforms, so his interviews and show appearances are a must see. I recommend you watch the full Episode on HBOMax.
