#FMSpotlight: Breana Marin – “Back Burner” (Listen)

 Breana Marin reassures her perfect match that she’s here for him at all costs in “Back Burner.” The beat, crafted by dbmagic, is truly an ear-grabber. Moreover, it brings together wobbly synths and Afrobeat/R&B elements. The tee to this compelling instrumental is Breana’s vocals. Her soft, expressive range sets the tone for both the song’s theme and styling. 

“‘Back Burner’ captures the emotions I was feeling at a time where the person I was with felt as if they needed to make more money, be more successful and accomplish specific goals before we could move our relationship to the next level,” says Marin. “I felt as though I was being pushed aside and that my partner wasn’t living in the present because he was too focused on who he thought I needed him to be when all I wanted was to grow together here and now in the present.”

The end goal for Marin is to inspire and uplift fans who are dealing with a similar dilemma.

At the beginning of “Back Burner,” Breana Marin lists the star qualities she possesses. Although it’s apparent to her beau that she’s the total package, he’s still hesitant to jump the gun. 

The songstress explains why he’s attempting to distance himself, saying

“And I got exactly what you need/But you say the timing ain’t perfect/Cause you’re stressing about my needs.”

Instead of turning the other cheek, she embraces her lover and makes it known that she’s not going anywhere. 

Tapping into her mesmerizing vocal play, she sings

“Tryna lift you up/I’m on your side/On your team.”

Wholeheartedly, she communicates that they should give this relationship a try. Love is about taking risks, after all. 

Deeper into the song, she questions why he’s making things between them complicated. They fit perfectly, and there shouldn’t be a doubt about that. 

Breana makes a valid point as she sings, “Why do you make it harder than it really has to be?/You think that the grass is greener/Somewhere where it misleads you.”

The song closes off in an exuberating fashion, channeling high energy and appeasing beat drops.
