Coi Leray has released her sophomore album “COI.” The Boston native is definitely still trying to find her sound while having fun. The songs are not too memorable, but there are some fun tracks such as “Make My Day,” “Get Loud,” “Spend It,” and the obvious hit “Players” – sampling Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five’s “The Message.” “COI” contains features by David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Giggs, Lola Brooke, Skillibeng, and the legendary James Brown.

Samples All Over “COI”
The entire album relies on samples, which has been a popular trend for artists recently. However, I think the samples give the songs a slight edge, and the lyrics are cute, but something still feels missing. Some of the songs could not even be carried by the sample, such as “My Body” and “Phuck It.”

Favorite Song And Songs That Need To Go
My favorite song on this album was, surprisingly, “Spend It” with Saucy Santana. The house/dance/vogue sound compliments Coi Leray’s voice, and Saucy gives the song some extra spice.
Also, the “Blick Blick” rapper absolutely could have cut some songs. “My Body,” “Run it Up,” and “Black Rose” would have been nice for the deluxe “COI” version. Those tracks just didn’t seem needed on the album and were not very memorable.
“Trendsetter” v. “COI”
“COI” is absolutely better than her freshman album “Trendsetter.” Leray was not crowded by collaborations on her sophomore album. She was able to shine and test her limits. She needed to be able to capture people without huge names on every song. On this LP, it sounds like she is having fun and showing a little more of herself. Coi is giving us fun, sexy, and adventurous on this new project.
Album Rating
This is absolutely an album that you can play with your girls on a nice road trip or as you are getting dressed to go out. The “No More Parties” rapper seems to not take herself too seriously and is just here for a good vibe. I give this album a C+.
