Def Jam Recordings has appointed Los Angeles rapper, Snoop Dogg as the new creative face of the label, acting as a senior strategic advisor of sorts. Monday’s announcement says that the role “will allow [Snoop] to strategically work across the label’s executive team and artist roster.”
Snoop’s roles will not just be relegated to musical endeavors either. According to the rap icon, we can expect much more from the famed label. As a result of the new position, Snoop also promises music videos, TV shows and video games – to name a few. We know that Def Jam is one of the biggest labels in the hip hop game. It dates back almost 40 years. We also know that Snoop’s entertainment resume is nearly three decades long and running.
So, what’s not to like about this move?
The stars have seemed to align for the label and the rapper, so this move makes sense on too many levels not to like it. While Def Jam resides in New York, Snoop will be based out of LA and will report to Universal Music Group’s CEO and Chairman Lucian Grange as well as Def Jam’s interim CEO, Jeffrey Harleston. So, for now, we can sit back and see what new inventions Snoop Dogg can smoke up.
