It’s been a few years since Jay-Z‘s last album, but in a recent interview with Kevin Hart, the legend confirmed he’s still in the game. The comedian managed to get Jay for an episode of his podcast Hart To Heart. During the conversation, Hart asked Jay-Z about his retirement status.

“Nah, I tried that,” Jay-Z told Kevin Hart. Jay was, of course, referencing his decision to retire following the release of “The Black Album” in 2003. Hov would unretire a few years later. He then explained that he felt burnt out due to not taking a vacation and needed a break to maintain his musical output.

After nearly three decades, Jay said that though he isn’t on retirement, he’s also unsure of what comes next.

“I don’t know what happens next,” Hov said. “I’m not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album, but I never want to say that I’m retired. It’s a gift, so who am I to shut it off? And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album; maybe it is. I have no idea, but I’m just going to leave it open.”

Jay-Z’s last studio album, 4:44, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary, and it contains some of the most authentic bars from Hov to date. While there isn’t any new music on the horizon, fans can rest assured that Jay is still active.

While on the podcast, Hov discussed how being a parent changed his perspective on life. The New York rapper reflected on spending time with his family while dealing with his busy schedule, saying that quality time is a priority. In an interview with People magazine, the rap mogul shared his perspective on parenthood.

“Time is all you have. That’s the only thing we control,” Jay said. “It’s how you spend your time. You’re reckless with your time before; you’re just all over the place…What are you leaving your house for?”
