Playboi Carti Releases 'Whole Lotta Red' to Mixed Reviews

On Friday, Playboi Carti released his highly-anticipated sophomore LP Whole Lotta Red. The new album was met with mixed fanfare online, with some fans applauding Carti’s ambitious, punk-inspired vocal delivery and beat selection, while others criticized the record’s lack of melodic structure and unconventional design.

The 24-track album spans just over an hour and includes features from Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and Future. Carti’s elastic vocals are supplemented by an array of futuristic, edgy beats from the likes of F1lthy, Wheezy, Pi’erre Bourne, and more.

WLR’s album cover was inspired by the 1970s punk rock magazine ‘Slash.’

Carti’s experimental approach to recording has left fans and critics divided over Whole Lotta Red. However, his debut album, the now acclaimed Die Lit, was also met with mixed reviews upon its release. Will WLR also age better once people take the time to digest it?
