Rick Ross Explains The Process of Making His Latest Album

Earlier this month, Rick Ross dropped a deluxe version of his eleventh studio album, Richer Than I Ever Been.

However, there is a noticeable lack of featured artists. Last year, Ross teased several star-studded collaborations with the likes of Drake and Lil Baby. However, these tracks didn’t make the cut. When asked about these features, Ross said, “It came down to one of those things where we wanted to keep it short, let’s keep it clean, let’s give it to them just like this.” He noted that Lil Baby was a pleasant process and that the artist loves Drake, but he just wanted to keep the tracklist short and sweet.

The original version of “Richer Than I Ever Been,” released in December, is only 12-songs long. This is the shortest album the rapper has released since 2011’s “Teflon Don.”

The deluxe version features three more songs: “Not for Nothing,” “Vacheron,” and “Revelations,” bringing the total number of music pieces to 15. Despite the lack of Drake and Lil Baby, the album still features artists like Jazmine Sullivan, Wale, 21 Savage, and Future. The rapper reportedly marketed the album on the side of armored trucks and billboards everywhere.

Why This Album Means so Much

The Mississippi rapper explained why this album is personally important to him in a public statement made last November. “This album is special to me in many different ways,” said Ross. “As a teen, they don’t see the value of maturity and growth.” He continued, saying, “Imagine being 30 years old and being broke, but really life is just getting started.” The 46-year-old is grateful for his platform and has no problem expressing his gratitude. “Everyday I’m able to breathe this delicious oxygen is really why I’m richer than I ever been.”
