Unfortunately, for Yves Saint Laurent in the UK their not as lenient with the creative content developed for advertising. The idea that sex sells isn’t necessarily true there, simply because UK’s Advertising Standards Authority won’t allow it.
The latest to come to an issue with the organization is fashion house Saint Laurent. They casted an incredibly skinny model for their Spring Summer 2015 ads. Per the ASA, in a statement they released through BBC, the model’s rib cage is exposed with her knees and thighs being similar in width.
“We therefore considered that the model appeared unhealthily underweight in the image and concluded that the ad was irresponsible.”
Others targeted by the organization are Tom Ford for his naked Cara Delevigne ad, which is banned from appearing within a 100 meters of a school, after receiving community complaints. They didn’t ban the ad completely, noting that although Cara is naked, it was done with decent taste.
Miu Miu also got deemed inappropriate for their SS15 ad as well. Via the Guardian the ASA said the ad was sexually suggestive considering the crumpled bedroom sheets and an open mouth.
What’re your thoughts? Are these guidelines valuable in the long run in keeping advertising appropriate for all those who can view it?
