Bow Wow Reveals Jay-Z’s Album “4:44” Inspired his Financial Literacy, “I Ain’t Never Looked Back”

Soulja can learn about more than 1990’s rap from Bow Wow. In an Instagram story last Tuesday, Bow Wow thanks Jay-Z for motivating him to become financially literate. The album 4:44, released in 2017 and focuses on heavy situations from Jay-Z’s life. Jay-Z write about fighting his past self, the futility of living rich, and leaving behind a legacy for his children.

Bow Wow thanks Jay-Z

Earlier this week, Bow Wow posted on Instagram thanking Jay-Z for inspiring him. The rapper claims that Jay-Z messages about responsibility in 4:44 have made him a better person. The passionate post brings awareness to the positives of powerful credit, “It’s cool to have cash but with good credit… Man the world is yours!”

Comments on the post are divided. Some agree entirely with Bow Wow, arguing that credit opens up opportunities for growth. But those opportunities are only available to those who manage credit well early. Others remain unconvinced and instead believe that cash is king. Credit can lead young people into debt, which stifles growth.

Life Lessons from 4:44

People are often motivated to make positive change through song. Something about music makes messages more meaningful. It is not hard to see why Bow Wow was inspired by 4:44. The album is full of raw emotion and wisdom. The most obvious example is probably Jay-Z’s “The Story of O.J.” which focuses on the importance of early investment and credit, “You wanna know what’s more important than throwin’ away money at a strip club? Credit.” He then goes on to emphasize the important of smart investment:

I bought some artwork for one million
Two years later, that shit worth two million
Few years later, that shit worth eight million
I can’t wait to give this shit to my children
Y’all think it’s bougie, I’m like, it’s fine
But I’m tryin’ to give you a million dollars worth of game for $9.99

The idea of passing wealth on to the next generation is expanded upon in “Legacy.” In that song, Jay-Z emphasizes the importance of establishing generational wealth. He argues not only it is important for securing the future of a family, but it can help improve society:

Take those monies and spread ‘cross families
My sisters, Hattie and Lou, the nephews, cousins and TT
Eric, the rest to B for whatever she wants to do
She might start an institute, she might put poor kids through school
[…]
Leave a piece for your siblings to give to their children too
TIDAL, the champagne, D’USSÉ, I’d like to see
A nice peace-fund ideas from people who look like we
We gon’ start a society within a society

At its core, 4:44 cautions, “Fuck livin’ rich and dyin’ broke,” a valuable lesson whether you are a 40-year old rapper or a 20-year old signing up for your first credit card.

#CherryJuice: Jay- Z kicks off season 43 of Saturday Night Live

brooklynvegan.com

Jay- Z kicks off season 43 for SNL.

Last Saturday season 43 of Saturday Night Live premiered and the special Guest performance was by The God Mc himself Jay-Z. Some people may have been excited about host Ryan Gosling but hip-hop fans looked forward to seeing Hov. Performing on SNL is nothing new For Shawn Carter he has performed for The SNL audience a number of times and has even joined in a few skits. This guest appearance no skits were done but Hov made his appearance memorable.

A few entertaining skits from the talented SNL cast, and then Jay graced the stage for his first of his two performances. The first song he performed was BAM from his 4:44 album. Damien Marley joined Hov on stage as they performed the reggae-heavy song. Damien Marley gave all his energy singing the chorus in the background while Hov spit his fire verses for the song. The performance was excellent but what really had people talking was the custom-made Colin Kaepernick Jersey Jay-Z was sporting, not only was it a dope Jersey but it was also Jay letting the world know he stands with Colin Kaepernick. After the BAM performance Hov hit the stage a little more subtle this time a regular backdrop, he had on a plain white tee jeans and sneakers and he performed the Track 4:44 from the album of the same name.

Jay-Z was alone on stage while he performed one of the more revealing songs from the album it was like he was baring his soul in the performance. Performing for the season 43 premiere of SNL was just a warm-up for the 4:44 tour Jay is about to embark on. Both performances were a hit and I feel this won’t be Jigga’s last stop on SNL.

Vic Mensa’s Gets Trippy Rollin’ Like a Stoner

Just months after the release of Vic Mensa Album The Autobiography: As told by  Vic Mensa Vic hits us with the trippy video that takes us straight into the mind of Vic Mensa. Flying high and swerving through lanes of traffic, landing right on a stage of an empty hall.  Bright colors and clouds of smoke with a 90’s vibe “Rollin’ Like a Stoner” is feeling like a crazy night on the town!

Directed by Vic and Will Hasty Rollin’ Like A Stoner”  gives you a John Waters-esque vibes “The ‘Rolling Like A Stoner’ video is about reckless abandon and escapism,” said Vic. “The whole thing was filmed on a stage, as a comment on life as an entertainer. I was watching films like Bye Bye Life and Birdman, and 1920s westerns.”

At the end of October, Vic is set to go on the 4:44 Tour with Jay-Z starting out in Anaheim, Calif. then making stops in New Orleans, Miami, New York, Detroit, Boston, Washington, D.C., Atlanta and more. Vic Mensa has also teamed up with Tidal and MusiCares for a hurricane relief benefit concert. On Sept. 30 Vic had pop-up show at the Bowery Ballroom here in New York City to raise goods and money for of the recent Hurricane victims.

“With so many heartbreaking events happening across the world, I’m eager to lend my support to victims of the recent hurricanes and other natural disasters,” he said. “MusiCares initiative is doing amazing things on behalf of the music community so it’s a perfect match.”

#FMTrends: Jay-Z Explains the Emotional Struggles of Men in MaNyfaCedGod Video

Courtsey of Instagram #MaNyfaCedGod

Jay-Z gives a refreshing perspective on the emotional aspects of men in his latest video, MaNyfaCedGod.

To help shape the story line for the bonus track from 4:44, Jay-Z tapped British musician James Blake, music video director Francesco Carrozzini and Academy Award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o.

The feeling of love, heartache, betrayal, and rebirth of unconditional love came full circle in the black and white themed video.

Some describe the MaNyfaCedGod video as “trials and tribulations of a broken relationship on the mend.” But, if you watch the Footnotes video, you’ll find that Jay-Z dug deep to get his point across. He opened up to discuss how and why most men feel defenseless in a relationship.

Childhood poverty, abandonment, and disappointment are just some of the reasons. If you listen carefully and you’ll hear Jay-Z try to explain: “I was worried that the way I was would end me up alone.”

More than a dozen men gave a glimpse into their emotional diaries. Anthony Anderson, Trevor Noah, Chris Rock, Meek Mill and several other celebrities explained the internal pressures of being a strong partner.

“When we look at trying to be something for other people, specifically men, it is this constant barrage of ‘You’ve got to be the man in the relationship!’Jesse Williams explained. “What does that mean? Does that mean to have courage? And courage to do what?”

Image: via Instagram Jesse Williams @ijessewilliams

Williams continued to ask if being a man meant to be a “leader” or “physically strong.” The eye opener to these questions for the Grey’s Anatomy star is that neither of these characteristics defines what a man is or should be. “The weakest people I ever met in my life have been physically strong men.”

Dear Men of MaNyfaCedGod,

Thank you for sharing your emotional struggles. Your stories will help men, and women, understand each other better.

Sincerely,

@TCsViews

#FMTrends : JAY-Z Releases “Adnis” Video On TIDAL [Link]

JAY-Z Releases “Adnis” Video On TIDAL

On our previous episode of “What is JAY-Z Doing Now?”, Hova released the BAM video with reggae artist Damian Marley .  After that, the very controversial Kill JAY-Z” video.  Of course, both of them released and premiered on the mogul’s TIDAL stream site.  Well now the Hard Knock Life emcee is back with another visual masterpiece, one for his bonus track titled “Adnis“, named after his father and main focus point of the track.

We were originally introduced to the sneak peak of the track via an ad that ran during the NBA Finals back in June, according to XXL Magazine. What started off as a teaser for the audio of the bonus track, ended up as the actual music video.  This was the most highly anticipated and requested track, based on the Brooklynite’s fan base.  The video also was directed by Mark Romanek, who directed “The Story of OJ“.

The black and white vision involves  Moonlight actor Mahershala Ali and Lethal Weapon actor Danny Glover. Ali works the punching bag as a focused amateur boxer in a dark gym while Glover appears as his trainer in some of the scenes. Make sure to pay attention to the hidden messages between the visual and the narrated verses, as they embody each other.

In the song, Hov emphasizes his distant relationship with his late father, beginning his verse:

“Uh, letter to my dad that I never wrote/Speeches I prepared that I never spoke/Words on a paper that I never read/Proses never penned, they stayed in my head/Jotted on dotted lines, I’mma fight you, ni**a/From stories that I heard, I’m just like you, ni**a/Must’ve been some pain in your past, too/Must’ve been a karma that was past due/Must it be the energy that passed through/Many I’ve been a pastor, many snafus.”

#FMTrends JAY-Z releases New Video “Bam” On TIDAL [Link]

JAY-Z Releases “Bam” Exclusively On TIDAL

As if its not already the Hard Knock Life emcee has the world buzzing off the platinum 4:44 album.  Not to mention the release of  “4:44 the footnotes“, which features different celebrities in the industry, and their views on relationships.  The release of  “The Story of OJ” and “4:44” music videos.  The Marcy Projects-bred rapper can now add another to the list of visionary achievements, exclusively on TIDAL.

JAY-Z released the new video for his long awaited collaboration with Damian Marley, “Bam“. The track was named after the Sister Nancy sample used.  However not only the sample, but Sister Nancy herself makes an appearance in the video, according to The Source Magazine.  In her appearance, the legendary reggae artist talks about how her infamous “Bam Bam” song was simply a freestyle:

“It was a freestyle,” (Sister Nancy said.) “Bam Bam was just a freestyle, I didn’t write it. My music isn’t going anywhere, it’s timeless. Like with ‘Bam Bam’ even after  I am gone where I am supposed to go it will still be here.”

In the video, the Welcome to Jamrock singer serves as a tour guide to Hov.  The video takes place in Kingston, Jamaica.  The two artists converse about the influence and culture of reggae in modern music to this day.  They also pay homage to, as well as chat about, Damian‘s father, the legendary Bob Marley, and his contributions to reggae’s migration to the United States.  Not to mention the No I.D. influenced track, mixed with exclusive verses from Hov, and a killer interpolated hook from Mr. Jr. Gong himself (courtesy of Jacob Miller’s “Tenement Yard).

The new video was actually rumored in June, when Damian Marley sat down with Billboard.com to make clear speculations of the infamous, social media-spread picture of the Jamrock artist and Jigga (via dancehallhiphop InstaGram account). Damian said:

“Well, I did some work with him for some stuff that he’s working on,” (Marley says). “I’m not really sure of the details of his project in that sense, but we worked on some music together. I’ve been a fan of his music since he came out. We’ve never done any musical work together. So that was a joy to finally work together musically.”
