Dr.Dre Claims That Snoop Dogg Does NOT Own “The Chronic” Masters

In a recent statement, Howard King, Dr. Dre’s attorney, confirmed that the artist still owns the studio album “The Chronic.” In a statement from Complex, the attorney assures that Beats By Dre mogul is still in control of the record.

“There are false reports out regarding ownership by Death Row of Dr. Dre,” Kind said. “Dr. Dre owns 100 percent of “The Chronic.””

The same statement completely denies Snoop Dogg’s comments claiming he owned the debut album.

Snoop said he had reached an agreement to take over Death Row in February, days before his Super Bowl halftime show.

Figuring Out “The Chronic” Owner

Snoop Dog also had an interview with Chief Content Editor Elliott Wilson for Tidal Magazine on Friday. He said he owns the albums “Murder Was The Case,” “Dogg Food,” and, of course, “The Chronic.”

“Same with Dr. Dre and “The Chronic.” I got “The Chronic” album.” Snoop continued, “I got “Doggystyle,” “Tha Doggfather,” “Murder Was the Case,” “Dogg Food,” “Above the Rim.” I got all those records.”

According to the same interview, The rapper was also confident that he would reach an agreement with Pac.

“I got a great relationship with his estate, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to be able to work something out,” he claimed. “Continue some Death Row 2Pac business now that Snoop Dogg is in control of Death Row.”

As evidence, Snoop also posted a recent photo on Instagram showing Death Row Masters archives a couple hours ago.

Lil Durk Stars in New Beats by Dre Commercial

Lil Durk starred in the latest ad for Dr. Dre’s Beats by Dre. Fashion company A-Cold-Wall* has collaborated with Beats by Dre on a new design, which the rapper modeled.

Lil Durk has exploded with popularity over the past year, and is currently on tour with Lil Baby. Durk has been on the come-up ever since appearing on Drake’s ‘Laugh Now, Cry Later.’

Beats by Dre announced the Lil Durk collaboration on October 11 with a promotional video. The clip showed the rapper modeling the new headphones and various pieces of clothing from A-Cold-Wall*’s luxury line.

The Beats Studio3 Wireless x A-Cold-Wall* are the new headphones in question. Coming in a speckled concrete color, they have the ACW logo emblazoned just above the right earcup. They will have a limited initial release priced at $350 a pair. A-Cold-Wall* plan to drop the first headphones on October 15, with wider sales to the public beginning three days later. After that, retailers like Apple, SSENSE, Saks Fifth Avenue, and NTWRK will all carry the new Beats starting October 18.

A-Cold-Wall* is a fashion company based in England, and founded in 2015. Their mission statement is the clash of environments and class systems. Additionally, the working-class British style inspired their fashion. As a result, they color all of their clothes grey to articulate the textures of the environment.

“Building a literal link between environment, inspiration, material, and function enabled us to project shared, hyper-local, hyper-global influences as a keystone for a universal community,” A-Cold-Wall* founder Samuel Ross said in a statement. “By this, I mean through the cinematography, the shifting of environments and location—the catalyst of music playing a major role in transporting a listener, or transforming a physical environment.”

#FMTrends: The Beats Saga Continues

In case you’re wondering, Beats Electronics is trying to collect $71 million in unpaid royalties from the audio-video cable maker Monster. After auditors calculated the exchange rates, Beats believes they are owed a cool $95 million.

Beats filed a breach of contract with the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Sept. 15, 2017. But history shows this has been going for nearly eight years.

Allow me to break it down

Beats and Monster became business buddies in August 2009. The two had an ironclad distribution agreement where Beats tapped Monster to make and market Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.

By 2011, Beats decided to end its partnership with Monster and then jumped into the sack with the smartphone manufacturer HTC.

In 2012, Beats signed several distribution and royalty agreements after the licensing deal ended with Monster. Although the Monster licensing deal was a one and done, Beats allowed Monster to sell some products in selected retail stores.

Then on a beautiful money-making day in August 2014, Apple Inc. opened up its chest full of cash and sealed the deal to buy Beats for $3.2 billion.

And no, Beats didn’t share any of the proceeds from the deal with Monster.

A year after the deal Monster and its founder Noel Lee sued Beats, Dr. Dre, Jimmy Iovine and HTC, claiming they were cheated out of their stake in the headphone company in the Apple deal. A Los Angeles state court judge threw out the lawsuit in August 2016.

Are you still following? Great. Allow me to continue.

Let’s go back to June 2015 when Law360.com reported that Beats was fighting another royalty lawsuit. This time it was for royalties for the first and second set of fancy headphones. Or was it the third set of designer headphones? It doesn’t even matter. The judge ended up agreeing with Beats.

But then there was an appeal!

The court of appeal found the agreement’s language problematic. “There is no language in the contract limiting the agreement to a single product or model,” wrote Presiding Judge Roger Boren. “Thus, the agreement is certainly reasonably susceptible to an interpretation that it covers more than just the original, Studio, headphone model.”

If you’re in the mood to dive deeper, you can get the full breakdown at LawJournalNewsletters.com.

Dear Beats Electronics vs. Monster,

I thoroughly looked into this case and it totally reeks of confusion. I can’t even try to figure this out…but I will say this:

Beats – you should have known things were going to get messy after Apple gave you $3 billion for your headphones.

Monster – let this be a lesson to you. Structure better deals.

Sincerely,

@TCsViews
