Record label Factory New may have a massive lawsuit after a failed and highly controversial project called FN Meka.
Last week, FN Meka, the first artificial intelligence rapper, made shockwaves on social media. Unfortunately for Capitol Records and Factory New, the reactions were a mix of confusion and unhappiness. The virtual artist came off as a cheap gimmick for rap music listeners. Specifically, the usage of the n-word in a historically black genre like rap and a seemingly nonblack AI made many uncomfortable.
Y'all not calling out this digital minstrel show enough for me.
All the backlash subsequently caused Capital Records to drop FN Meka. One would think that’s the end of this story, but this saga isn’t quite complete yet.
The rapper behind FN Meka has revealed himself as Kyle The Hooligan. And according to him, there was theft involved in the creation of the AI rapper. Kyle spoke with TMZ Hip Hop this week and told the media outlet he’s seeking financial compensation from designer Brandon Le and Factory New.
“Took the culture, took the swag, took my whole sauce. And I never heard from them since,” the upcoming artist said in an illuminating Instagram post. In the video, the Houston artist details how he wrote and performed Meka’s first three singles, “Internet,” “Moonwalkin’,” and “Speed Demon.” He allegedly never recorded payment or acknowledgment from Factory New. In addition, Kyle says he gave Factory New the ideas to form FN Meka’s aesthetic and regrets being unable to provide input. He believes that could’ve stopped dicey imagery like the image of Meka being beaten by a police officer.
In a written statement released by Factory New backer Anthony Martini, he took accountability for not doing the proper vetting and revealed he’s parted ways with the company. “I joined the team in early 2020 and was named co-founder with my specific focus being business development and artist management,” he explained. “I take responsibility for diving into a project without comprehensively examining its history.”
According to Kyle The Hooligan’s legal rep Andrew Occult, Factory New still hasn’t responded to the lawsuit. “Despite multiple requests, we have not received a response from or been put in contact with Factory New’s or Brandon Le’s legal representatives, nor have we received any formal offer for compensation. We continue evaluating our options and are hopeful for a swift and just resolution to this matter,” he told TMZ.
Although FN Meka was short-lived, his strange existence still shakes things up for Factory New and Capitol Records.
Tyga during Paris Fashion Week. Image source: Christian Vierig/Getty Images.
Tyga has apologized to Mexican Americans after receiving much backlash for his music video “Ay Caramba.” The “Rack City” rapper sat down with Los Angeles radio station Power 106 and Gil from the American Cholo podcast.
“I had no intentions of offending anybody…want to apologize to the Mexican community and my fans that are Mexican,” Tyga said. “I have a lot of Latin fans that are Puerto Rican, Dominican, that probably weren’t offended by this video, but my Mexican fans in L.A., there definitely was some that were offended.”
When the “Ay Caramba” controversy sparked, Tyga claimed to be confused about the hate. “I wasn’t making this video to be offensive, I was really making this video to be creative,” the artist explained.
Tyga later said that he drew his music video inspiration from the film “The Nutty Professor,” particularly from the character in a fat suit. “The character is just me in a fat suit…not even Mexican. This character was literally a reference…There’s a scene from [“The Nutty Professor” with a character in] the same kind of sweat suit on.”
Gil Responds To Tyga
Gil then added to the conversation, saying that the video did offend him. “I grew up my whole life in Mexican culture, being in L.A., so it’s kind of hard for me to separate the two.” He then asked Tyga if he would consider taking the video down. “If I feel like that’s right, then I don’t have a problem with that,” he said. He has since taken down the video. This is not the first time Tyga has dressed as a different “character” in his music videos.
Last month, he and YG released the music video for their song “Run.” Both rappers dressed up as white chicks, so many fans believed the two were poking fun at Kim and Khloe Kardashian.

It seems all is well after Dave Chappelle’s alma mater reopened the door to renaming the arts school after the comedian. Surprisingly after being canceled, he has gained fans support after the challenges thrown. Backlash has followed Dave Chappelle but so has honor. While he said no, thanks to the offer, he did counter by ultimately renamed his alma mater, Theatre for Artistic Freedom and Expression.
It all began when hate started to spread, especially among LBGTQ about his recent Netflix comedy ”The Closer”. This time, he knew his jokes went too far as some enraged students didn’t share the idea of naming the school after him. The media called Dave ‘transphobic’ which he never took deeply to heart the negative comments. Now, his deeply profound about this whole situation has gone viral.

Furthermore, NBC News reported that the school was about to change its name after Chappelle back then in 2021 but held back after the public criticized his recent comedy. Also, According to TMZ, he visited his alma mater in November and some students were not pleased with his jokes and one called him a bigot for his jokes during an assembly. Hurtful enough.
How Chappelle took control of the situation
To change things, the actor brought to focus that raising the money was primordial and if ever the haters raised more cash, then he would renounce; that’s the challenge he threw to all attending students. And as it turns out, his supporters collected more money and the bullies could only stand and stare at their school paying tribute to Chappelle who committed on and off and served as needed.
However, it was not long until he changed his mind and renamed it. It is indeed sad to note that the most famous alumni there sacrificed his honor just so that students don’t feel oppressed about attending a theatre school. Well, Chappelle does have a deep meaning behind this sudden change of name; to address the cancel culture. His point of view was that there will always be a pack of haters causing you harm and going against you and your sayings; but your fans won’t.
Ja Rule On Will Smith's Oscar Slap. Image Source: Wikimedia Commons.
On Monday (Mar 28), comedian Dave Chappelle became a trending topic for an old joke he made about Ja Rule. Chappelle recalls seeing the Murder Inc. rapper on MTV around the time the World Trade Center collapsed by terrorists in 2001.
In addition, Chappelle asked Ja Rule what he thought of the horrific act of terror. However, Rule was evidently of the opinion that it was absurd.
“I remember right around September 11, Ja Rule was on MTV,” Chappelle says in a video clip circulating online. “They said, ‘We got Ja Rule’ on the phone. Let’s see what Ja’s thoughts are on this tragedy.’ Who gives a f**k what Ja Rule thinks at a time like this, n***a? This is ridiculous! I don’t wanna dance. I’m scared to death!”
Additionally, the clip was connected to the recent controversy surrounding Will Smith and Chris Rock at the 94th Annual Academy Awards. In addition, fans questioned, “Where is Ja?” Similarly, Ja Rule answered their call and appeared on Twitter shortly after that with the message: “Slapping season is OFFICIALLY in session…”
Moreover, the incident occurred on Sunday night (Mar 27). The Oscars were also playing. Furthermore, a confused crowd watched Will Smith walk up to Chris Rock and hit him across the face in the middle of his duties. Nonetheless, he found a G.I. Jane joke that Rock told concerning the bald head of Jada Pinkett offensive.
“I feel you will smack the SH*T out of one of you n**gas bout my wife on national tv,” the Migos rapper tweeted. “Will Smith the greatest to do it.”
Will Smith Apologizes
In the end, Smith apologized for attacking Chris Rock onstage after the incident. Nevertheless, he acknowledges that he acted inappropriately but condemns violence in general.
“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive,” Smith also wrote in part. “I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I am embarrassed, and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Unfortunately, Boosie is one of those artists who will violate the Instagram guidelines, make a controversial post, and then wonder why his account has been suspended.
During a controversial Instagram live broadcast on Wednesday, Boosie examined the female parts of women with a magnifying glass during his Boosie Gone Bad event. Torrance Hatch Jr., his 18-year-old son, witnessed the antics as well.
In the video circulating on Twitter, Boosie can be seen looking very closely at the women. During this controversial clip, the participants spread their legs wide. As a result, Boosie, along with his son, took a peek at their business. “Look at the p***y, son,” Boosie said. Additionally, the rapper referred to their private parts as a turtleneck.
Controversial Clip Draws Strong Reactions on Instagram
A few commenters offered their opinions. One person said,
“This the same man who paid a woman to perform sexual acts on teenaged boys. Not surprised,” referring to Boosie saying he once paid a woman to give his son fellatio. Another person asked, “But Lil Nas X is the threat to children right?”
One commenter also stated,
“idk this one not funny to me and i have a dark sense of humor. And y’all already know boosie been exposing his sons to stuff like this well before 18 so miss me with that…” They continued to say, “But let it had been an 18 yr old girl on live with her mother looking at [eggplant emoji] of men twice her age with a magnifying glass. It’s something really closeted and perverse about Boosie.”
The controversial events surrounding Boosie are not new. Whether commenting on Dwayne Wade’s daughter Zaya Wade or about Lil Nas X, the Baton Rouge rapper never fails to express his opinions about how people raise their children or conduct themselves.
Things have gotten very messy between Doja Cat and Lorry Hill.
Since YouTube’s creation in 2007, it’s been a hub for many types of content. In recent years, gossip has exploded into a dominating market. Everything from appearance to relationships is made into discourse. It used to be that celebs only had to worry about tabloids. Now, gossip fires off from both the media and the general public with the surge of social media apps. In this internet age, where everyone has a platform, fans and haters alike have increased visibility.
Nonetheless, today’s stars have the equal advantage of using their massive social media followings to respond to the slander. And in some cases, taking it all the way to the law. It seems female rappers particularly are taking matters into their own hands regarding false claims, and Doja is next up on the list.
Doja Gets Serious
Doja Cat made waves after going live last week (Feb 25). The ‘Say So’ rapper called out YouTuber Lorry Hill, calling her a “b!tch “and “dumb.” Hill is a popular figure on YouTube with over 300k subscribers. Her content mainly focuses on analyzing the faces and videos of female celebrities searching for plastic surgery. Some of her subjects include Zendaya, Ariana Grande, and Adele.
Clearly, The topic that seemed to catch Doja’s attention was Megan Thee Stallion. She began her profanity-laden rant with, “This b!tch made a fucking plastic surgery video on Megan Thee Stallion. Shut the fuck up, bro. At that rate? Megan Thee Stallion is home-fucking-grown. This b!tch has nerve.” Lorry’s Megan video titled Megan Thee Stallion: Almost Natural Series is currently sitting at over 170k views.
The 26-year-old rapper went on to clarify that her anger towards Hill was because “there are lies about me.” The now-deleted video from Lorry contained speculation on Doja’s possible surgeries. Some of the procedures named were rhinoplasty and a facelift. While the original has been taken off her YouTube page, fans have already re-uploaded it.
“A lot of weed, a lot of alcohol, a lot of shit like that does things to your body,” Doja explained in her IG live. She emphasized how poor her diet previously was in 2014 to refute her rapid weight-loss claims.
“I was eating marinara and bread every day. That was the beginning of my depression, I remember. And my body was very different, I was puffy, I was sad, I was fucked up in 2014.”
She subsequently condemned Hill for showing 2014 photos, which compared her to today. In addition to her personal gripe, Doja expressed her disdain for Hill’s entire online persona of plastic surgery accusation. The artist called the blogger an “Ill-mannered, less than smart person.”
Since her debut, Doja has always focused heavily on body positivity and promoted it to her fan base. In particular, tracks like ‘Juicy’ highlight the LA rapper’s appreciation for a curvier body type. While her recent work reflects self-love, that wasn’t always the case. The ‘Need to Know’ star opened up toCosmopolitanin October 2020 about her past struggles with body dysmorphia. “It started in my teens, which I think is where it starts for a lot of people. I started really growing, and I never really thought I looked good in a lot of the stuff I wore.” She said. This likely led to her annoyance and decision to publicly blast the YouTuber.
Interestingly enough, Doja confirmed during the IG live that she previously considered some procedures but has never actually gone through with them. Specifically, liposuction and a breast lift were on her radar. You can watch the entire IG live below:
The Ignored Apology
Following the rant, Lorry Hill responded via Instagram story. “everyone, the Doja Cat video was removed from my YouTube after Doja expressed feeling hurt by it. It is to her credit that she never asked me to remove it (and didn’t have to). It’s never my intention to hurt celebrities by my videos.” She typed.

Doja hasn’t made any response of her own at this time. Her initial Instagram live frankly spoke for itself. While the profanity and consumption of alcohol throughout the video made it slightly hard to watch, it’s a prime example of celebrities demanding agency with claims related to their body. Now it’s so easy to go live and convey a message to millions anytime. Famous people are now in an unusual position to receive criticism faster than ever and at the same time address that criticism faster than ever. Specifically, female rappers seem to be taking things personally and naming names.
Cardi Says, Enough Is Enough
Tasha K is another YouTuber in hot water with a chart-topper. In January this year, Cardi B won a lawsuit against the gossip blogger.
The defamation suit addressed several videos Tasha made about the Bronx star. These videos claimed Cardi had STDs, prostituted herself, and was addicted to drugs. In addition to those salacious rumors, Tasha alleged her daughter Kulture suffered from disabilities due to prenatal drug use. During the legal trial, Cardi was very candid about the psychological effects the rumors had. “I felt extremely suicidal[…] I felt defeated and depressed, and I didn’t want to sleep with my husband,” she said on the stand in tears, according to a TMZ report.
The lawsuit ended in Cardi’s favor, and Tasha was ordered to pay over $4 million at the tail end of January. Obviously, this is a hefty fine for a part-time YouTuber. Despite Tasha K’s confession of not having the money, Cardi isn’t showing sympathy. In a hostile tweet, she doubled down on the court ruling (Jan 21).
Think is a game but trust imma come for everything …..BBHMM
While it’s a stretch to say Cardi’s actions inspired Doja, it is a notable trend. Typically the strategy for Hollywood is to lay low and ignore until a rumor blows off. However, it’s refreshing to see artists address narratives head-on and speak up when it makes them uncomfortable. Many of their words and actions are for public consumption as a celebrity. But this doesn’t mean they’re not deserving of just a little empathy. So before you post that random rumor you got off Reddit, think of the person who may see it. You could be the next subject of an Instagram tirade. Or worse, put on trial.
Pete Davidson, comedian and boyfriend to Kim Kardashian, is now the primary Ye’s target. Ye’s goal is to get his family back. Over the past month, the artist utilized his music and social media to make that happen. While his cause is noteworthy, the methods are strange at the least.
Ye Fires The First Shot At Pete Davidson
Pete was first mentioned by Ye back in January in a leaked version of ‘My Life Was Never Easy’ featuring The Game. “God saved me from the crash so I could beat Pete Davidson’s ass,” Ye rapped.
While the line did stir up some controversy on social media, rap music often exaggerates for the sake of storytelling. As a result, not much action came from the bar. However, it is worth noting that Pete Davidson reportedly hired extra security upon hearing the song. According to a source close to Pete, the security increased due to rabid fans, not Ye.
Ye Declares War On Pete Davidson
Now, Ye is ready to take aim at the SNL star off the mic. He began with a handwritten note posted to his Instagram earlier in the week (Feb. 12). In the message, Ye says that Kid Cudi cannot work with him on the upcoming Donda 2 because of his connection to “you know who.”
Fans quickly connected the dots to Pete Davidson. Pete and Cudi have been close friends since the Staten Island star revealed in a 2016 Breakfast Club interview Cudi’s debut album “Man On The Moon” saved his life. This apparently doesn’t sit well with Ye, who signed Cudi to his label G.O.O.D music in 2008. Although Cudi is no longer on the record label, the two rappers have preserved a professional and personal relationship until recently. Clearly, Davidson’s romance with Kim is a big bump in the road.
Ye continued dissing Pete Davidson in the middle of an ensuing argument with Cudi. He posted a photo on Instagram of him, Timothee Chalamet, Cudi, and Pete Davidson during simpler times. Unsurprisingly, The ‘Good Life’ rapper made a critical edit: the red “X” mark over Pete’s face.
Why did Kanye cross his face out like a middle schooler that just found out his homie ate a different table pic.twitter.com/aqNiTtJDK1
The mocking endured into the night when Ye posted an edited photo of Marvel’s Civil War movie poster. The picture comedically puts Ye and Pete’s face over Iron Man and Captain America, symbolizing a fiery feud like in the 2016 film. Julia Fox, Future, and Travis Scott are photoshopped in on Ye’s side. Conversely, On Pete’s side, Cudi, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift are edited. The meme was captioned with a petty insult. “THE INTERNET HAS STILL NOT FOUND A DECENT PICTURE OF SKETE,” he typed.

The ranting quickly devolved into confusing metaphors and nicknames. Earlier today (Feb. 13), Ye referred to Pete as “Hillary Clinton’s ex-boyfriend.” This was an allusion to a tattoo of Hilary Clinton Pete got back in 2017, which Ye also reposted later in the day.
Another post claimed Pete was attempting to “sell a narrative.” The baffling caption name-dropped Disney, The Daily Mail, Marvel, and Machine Gun Kelly.
credit: Instagram @theshaderoom
Ye then referred to Pete Davidson as “trash” and himself as “the garbage man” underneath a photo of a black screen. Charlemagne Tha God was tagged, possibly alluding to an upcoming interview. But honestly, who knows.
He then posted a series of pictures to defame Davidson. First, some gossip on his past relationship with Ariana Grande. Allegedly, Pete sent explicit photos to Mac Miller to deter the rapper from pursuing Ariana. This was captioned with “NO COMMENT.” Then, a screenshot of a text message sent by Davidson expressing he has no desire to come between Ye and his children was posted. The rapper captioned the photo: “NO, YOU WILL NEVER MEET MY CHILDREN.”
Another photo of Pete and rock artist Machine Gun Kelly was posted in their boxers. Finally, Ye finished this saga with a picture of himself and a note stating, “My account is not hacked.” In the caption, Ye offers SNL comedian Micheal Che double his salary to leave the comedy show “so you don’t have to look at that pawn ever again.”

The Aftermath
After all the noise, neither Pete nor Kim have responded publicly. Ye’s claims mostly get unserious reactions from his own fan base. Overall, the erratic social media battle is odd, juvenile, and difficult to decipher.
Hopefully, Ye can get support around him in these tough times. Divorce is clearly hard for anyone, whether the average Joe or a multi-millionaire rap icon.
An unexpected alliance has formed between J Prince and Joe Rogan. Earlier this week (Feb. 7) Rap-a-Lot Records CEO J Prince sprung to his defense via Instagram. “Joe Rogan is not a racist” he typed. “I know this brother. It takes a sincere individual to admit when they are wrong and have fucked up about a situation. As you can hear he’s done that and I forgive him because I never want to become one of those people that are filled with unforgiveness and hate, that we complain about all the time.”
“Let this be an example to others of the sensitivity of the word ‘n-gga’ being said by anybody other than a n-gga lol.” He ended the message by emphasizing his disapproval of people outside the black community using the n-word. It should be noted J Prince has appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience previously, similarly to other black community figureheads like Dave Chapelle and Mike Tyson.
J Prince is a well-respected figure in the Houston community. Most recently, he’s worked with Kanye West and Drake to hold the Larry Hoover benefit concert to end their years-long beef. While many still hold Rogan in low regard for his past actions, J Prince’s word has shown to hold weight in the recording industry.
Without a doubt, Former Fear Factor host and podcaster Joe Rogan has had a rough week in the media. Recently, prolific celebrities like Neil Young, Mary Trump and Sharon Stone have taken a public stand against the 54-year old for his anti-vaccine comments. In addition, his beliefs surrounding race are magnified. This after a particularly explicit compilation took the internet by storm. Despite the disapproval from many black posters on social media, he now has an unexpected figure on his side.
India Arie Calls out Joe
Rogan has utilized his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, to drive others away from the Covid-19 vaccine. “If you’re like 21 years old, and you say to me, ‘Should I get vaccinated?’ I’ll go no,” he said in an April episode. Moreover, he brought anti-vaccine figures like virologist Dr. Rover Malone, on his podcast to spout similar rhetoric. A “mass formation psychosis” is what Malone called the insistence from the public to get vaccinated.
Evidently, his most controversial content is surrounding the use of racial slurs. Last week(Feb. 4), R&B artist India Arie, took to her Instagram story to expound on why she was removing her music from Spotify. “I empathize with the people leaving for the COVID disinformation reasons and I think that they should,” Arie started. “I think that Joe Rogan has the right to say what he wants to say, I also think I have the right to say what I want to say[…] Spotify is built off the back of the music streaming. So they take the money that’s built from streaming and pay this guy 100 million dollars and they pay us .003% of a penny? Just take me off!” Intercut with the ‘Steady Love’ singers rant was a series of videos containing Rogan’s vast usage of the n-word. Take a look below:
Following the explicit video, she subsequently explained her reasoning on her story, condemning Spotify for their decision to uphold Rogan’s platform while underpaying artists. “Paying musicians a fraction of a penny? And HIM $100M? This shows the type of company they are and the company that they keep. “I’m tired” she typed. Clearly, Arie’s call to action has garnered a loud public response.
The internet turns against Joe Rogan
Several fans and political commentators met India with support. Many announced they planned to delete their Spotify accounts and never utilize the platform again in protest of Rogan.
Joe Rogan described going to Philly as meeting the Planet of the Apes. This is not just about the n-word, even though that should be enough. But, you can’t call Black people apes then say… “I’m not racist.” GTFOH.
As of now, Spotify has reportedly lost 19% of its subscriber base according to a consumer poll from Forrester Research. Furthermore, that number is set to continue to rise as Spotify CEO Daniel Ek publicly defended Rogan Sunday, (Feb. 6) saying “I do not believe that silencing Joe is the answer.” Subsequently, Ek confirmed Rogan’s requests to remove episodes containing offensive language from the platform.
Joe says sorry
In the face of all the controversy, Joe Rogan has issued an official apology. He posted a brief video on his Instagram last week (Feb.5) addressing his regret and intentions to do better.
“Now, I haven’t said it in years. I certainly would never want to offend someone for entertainment with something as stupid as racism.” He says. In the apology, he references his use of racial slurs as “regretful and shameful”.
Public scrutiny has found him despite his staggering popularity. The question is, was Joe Rogan’s apology sincere? Or because of social media pressure?
Nicki Minaj has released a new track, “Boyz,” with former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson. But the track, and accompanying video, caused a storm of comments, and critics blasted Jesy Nelson’s social media accusing her of blatant blackfishing.
British TikTok star NoHun accused Nelson of blackfishing due to her appearance in the song’s music video. He then shared the screenshots of an alleged conversation between NoHun and Little Mix member Leigh-Anne Pinnock, where Pinnock accuses Nelson of cutting her off. Pinnock and others went after Nelson, leading to Nelson blocking her.
Queen of Rap (and controversy) Nicki Minaj didn’t stay away from the conversation for too long.
Soon enough, Nicki Minaj and Jesy Nelson went on Instagram live to comment on the alleged screenshots and discuss the whole situation. Minaj spared no words in sharing how she felt.
“Sweetheart, take the text messages and shove it up your fucking ass. Print them text messages out, bust your ass open and shove it up your motherfucking ass. OK? And stop trying to hurt people and kill people’s lives and careers.”
Minaj then insinuated Pinnock was only jealous of Nelson’s success. “Stop. If you want a solo career, baby girl, just say that” Nicki continued. “You can go out and put your own music. We’re gonna support you and love you. That’s it. You don’t have to attack someone else.”
Nelson took over by stating she was always aware she was a white woman and never stated otherwise. She quit Little Mix when “people all of a sudden we’re saying it. I wasn’t on social media around that time, so I let my team [deal with it] because that was when I’d just left. But I mean, like, I love Black culture. I love Black music. That’s all I know; it’s what I grew up on.” Nelson also stated the whole controversy took “a toll on my mental health.”
After high demand from fans, Lil Nas X released the uncensored version of his latest single, “Industry Baby”
There was a scene in the music video of the chart-topping song “Industry Baby” that caught a lot of attention from viewers. The scene involved a large group of naked men dancing in a prison shower, featuring Lil Nas X himself in the center. This portion of the video was censored; however, many fans requested an uncensored look at this scene. The “Montero” artist delivered in his typical fashion. He released a new, uncensored look at the video and scene specifically. It quickly became the number one trending video on Youtube, but it wasn’t what most fans expected.
some of y’all not even mad that i’m gay, some of y’all mad that i’m gay and still succeeding.
— ☆ ‧dreamboy··‧̩̥˟͙冬˟͙‧̩̥l (@LilNasX) July 28, 2021
Lil Nas X is known for trolling his fans and enemies online. Once again, he is no stranger to misleading fans. Leading up to the release of the song, the artist hinted at it as being many things other than a song, such as a court hearing for his Nike shoe scandal. Instead, we got a wonderful collaboration with Jack Harlow. In the case of the “Industry Baby” uncensored music video, he trolled us once again. While many fans expected an overtly graphic and sexual shower dance scene, they were instead met with something almost as shocking. What was it? You’ll have to watch the video to find out!
