Record labels are continually seeking new talent to bring to the forefront. Jae Skeese, a rising hip-hop musician, comes from Buffalo, New York. He is the first artist signed to Conway The Machine‘s Drumwork Music label. He released his most recent album, “Ground Level,” on Aug. 16, 2024.

Skeese created “Ground Level” at a key point in his career, and he more than rises to the challenge, delivering his biggest and best effort yet while simultaneously rising higher.

“Ground Level” highlights Jae Skeese’s growth as an artist, combining real emotion and narrative with advanced production. The album features high-profile collaborations with Big K.R.I.T., Dave East, Sauce Walka, Jay Worthy, Project Pat, Smoke DZA, Statik Selektah, Che Noir, Lloyd, and Ski Beatz, who provide an unmistakable dynamic variety to the project.

This rising artist appears to have previously collaborated with a number of well-known performers. As an emerging artist, this is a fantastic way to obtain notice. Furthermore, all of the musicians on Jae’s album have worked in the music industry for a while. As a result, they may be able to give significant insight into how they rose to such prominence, as well as the complexities of being a musician.

“Ground Level” Embodies Jae Skeese’s Mindset

“Ground Level” is a portrait of Jae Skeese, reflecting both his current position and the highs and lows of his journey that formed and affected him, all given with Skeese’s creative wordplay. Presentation is essential, whether in the form of words or images. If you want visitors to know more about your project and be interested in it, you must make an effort to do so. That is how you get noticed and increase popularity.

“”Ground Level” is me taking the next step from coming up out of the basement and building on top of the foundation I have been laying the last three years; finally being able to say okay, I’ve laid the foundation. I’m here now, how many more levels can I reach now that I’m finally at the first floor,” Jae Skeese contemplates. “Everyone has a starting point, whether you are a med school student, an NFL prospect, or even a manager at Dunkin Donuts. The Ground Level mindset is a testament to overcoming obstacles and reaching new heights, while staying grounded and remembering that there are always new levels to achieve.”

The project’s opening track, “Situated,” which features Sauce Walka and Big K.R.I.T., is now accessible and establishes the mood for “Ground Level.” Additionally, the “Situated” video is now accessible below!

From “Abolished Uncertainties” To “Ground Level”

When we reach a particular point in life, we often reflect on how we got here and where we are today. Jae Skeese looks back at his journey:

“I remember when I dropped my Drumwork debut, “Abolished Uncertainties,” (2023) last year right after “Pain Provided Profit: (his collaborative album with Conway The  Machine) it felt like the Bills just won the Super Bowl- FINALLY!”

After years of working hard, grinding, and forging his own way with challenges that were seemingly stacked against him, Skeese eventually released his debut “Drumwork” album, following one with one of hip hop’s best rappers. It makes no difference who does not support you; the only one who can stand in the way of your advancement is you. Jae is an example of that since he managed to survive despite the obstacles piled against him.

“But what I learned after dropping “Abolished Uncertainties” is that that album was just another brick in the wall, said Jae. “I was building another piece to the foundation. “Ground Level” is a reflection of that. I highlight things I’ve been through, talk about the people I’ve lost, my mindset as I’ve elevated to the position you see me in today, how people have changed, my reasons for why I want to elevate in life and of course I talk about the things that make me, me.”

Albums that convey a meaningful message always earn recognition as masterpieces. Everyone has a story, as we all come from different backgrounds, and no one can tell our stories better than ourselves.

Jae Skeese continues to grow his reputation and prominence in the culture, and with Ground Level, he moves up a level! Where were you when you discovered the ability to level up? Certainly, many of us are heading in that way right now.

Listen to “Ground Level” below, and discover more about Jae Skeese on his socials!

Conway “The Machine” Reflects on the Instrumentalism of Mental Health Therapy

On May 22, Conway the Machine was found reflecting on the critical nature of mental health and how seeking therapy has helped him on his journey. And his reflection and message are truly inspirational.

Mental Health Month/Conway’s Resounding Message

For those unaware, this month is mental health month. It is a month set aside for educating the masses on the crucial nature of an issue all too prevalent, mental illness. According to NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness),

“One in five adults experiences mental illness each year, and fewer receive treatment.”

But despite its widespread reach, it is an age-old battle. Unfortunately, it has been met with significant stigma for years, often to the detriment of the community and society. As Conway told Zane Lowe in his recent interview,

“Growing up in a hood, particularly with young men, in the communities and stuff we look at wanting to get therapy and stuff like that, it’s like; I don’t know, a slight, I guess.”

Sadly he is dead on. Nevertheless, the times are changing. And greater attention to the issue has taken center stage. In fact, the promotion of the benefits of seeking help is becoming a powerful tool for change. And this is a beautiful thing.

The Exchange

Conway recently sat down with Apple Music to promote a new drop. However, the conversation expanded beyond his project to encompass a variety of subjects, one of which included mental health. The artist kept it open and honest, especially in the discourse on his mental health journey. He spoke about taking the time to focus on his mental health, expounding on its benefits. In the conversation, he made mention of his time away to achieve mental balance. He said,

“Sometimes you got to turn it off and let it rest for a few minutes and turn it back on and reboot it.”

He further gave detail on how taking the time to recalibrate was a benefit to his craft. Essentially mental rest was helpful in his bounce back to his music. Not only did pursuing therapy help him return to that passion, but elevated his output. In his words,

“It got me to the point where I’m back making music; I think, some of my best music.”

Conway’s Ongoing Work

Conway’s recent project release includes a new project and an accompanying documentary. The project’s title (album) is “Won’t He Do It.” And it’s a project that encompasses some premiere artists, which include: Benny the Butcher, Fabolous, Juicy J., Ransom, and more.

This is all a prelude to Conway’s upcoming  “Won’t He Do It”, tour; which is slated to start on May 26. The kick-off is expected to take place in the “windy city” none other than “Chi-Town,” formally known as Chicago.

Summing it Up

Conway proves that even one person can lead the way when speaking their truth. It doesn’t take a lot; just one voice can cause a ripple lending to lasting change. With that, we tip our hats alongside putting up a hip-hop salute.

Lloyd Banks Reveals Tracklist For “The Course of The Inevitable 2”

Lloyd Banks, a former member of G-Unit, has revealed the tracklist for his upcoming album “The Course of the Inevitable 2.” The album will be released on Jul 15.

Lloyd Banks is Back For More

The album is a sequel to Banks’ previous project from the last year, which Banks crafted after more than a decade away from the mic. “The Course of the Inevitable 2” offers 14 tracks with features from artists like Dave East, Jadakiss, Conway The Machine, Benny The Butcher, Vado, and Tony Yayo, who was one of G-Unit’s founding fathers.

With a lineup like this, fans can expect top-of-the-line lyricism.

Lloyd Banks plans to deliver again as he did last year with “The Course of the Inevitable.” It featured rappers like Freddie Gibbs, Roc Marciano, Styles P, Benny, and Vado.

Before The Comeback

Before returning to the game last yearLloyd Banks released his famous album “The Hunger for More 2” in 2010, featuring Yayo, Styles P, Pusha T, Kanye West, and many more. He wouldn’t release another album for nearly 11 years. In 2018, 50 Cent announced that Banks was no longer a member of G-Unit. The group disbanded later that year.

As expected, fans wondered why Lloyd Banks took so long to release a project. Many new talented rappers have emerged within the past decade, but Lloyd hasn’t been completely forgotten.

Last weekend, Lloyd Banks reminded everyone on Twitter that his peers have never discredited him.

Fans are ecstatic to see Lloyd back in the game, especially since he will work with fellow old-school rappers like Jadakiss and Yayo. Hyping up the fas, Lloyd Banks released a single titled “Fell in Love” on Friday, Jul 8.

What do you think of Banks’ comeback?

No One Is Paying Conway The Machine

Tuesday, Conway the Machine was on The Breakfast Club for almost an hour talking about many things. He told Charlemagne, DJ Envy, and Angela Yee that he never read his Griselda contract. Conway remains calm while disclosing this to the hosts. He and Westside Gunn started Griselda Records, so it’s not a huge issue. He will go to Westside, and there’s no doubt that West will make things right.

No More Record Deals?

Conway did deals with Griselda, Shady, and Interscope, in which only Shady paid him, but Conway called that “pocket change.” He now knows not to trust anyone when making contracts and to make sure it is beneficial to him in the future. His new album ‘God Don’t Make Mistakes’ was his last album on Griselda & Shady Records. So, does this mean he is only the Interscope member, or is he doing his own thing?

Big Bag Coming For Conway

On the Bootleg Kev Podcast, Conway said that he is “contractually” finished with all his record labels since the album has dropped. Conway’s feeling like he is in the league right now. The artist is a free agent and is looking for a big contract. He doesn’t mind signing to a major label as long as they give him a nice bag! Conway compares himself to Giannis Antetokounmpo, 2021 NBA Champion & Finals MVP, so a five-album $230-million contract is probably on the Machine’s mind. Attention Def Jam, Republic, Roc Nation, Universal, etc. Conway wants the money!

Although he never received payment, Conway has no regrets about his deals. With Griselda, that’s family, so he’s not overreacting. With Shady, he was just happy to be able to create with one of his favorite artists of all time in Eminem. Everything is all love, he says.

In the meantime, I’m sure Conway is finding a way to make his money despite all this. He starts his tour next week, Love Will Get You Killed, and hopefully, he can take home this show money. He will be on a concert tour until May.

Benny The Butcher Addresses ‘Tana Talk 4,’ Censorship & Releases Cover Art

The world first caught a glimpse of “Tana Talk 4” on the recent single “Johnny’s P’s Caddy” featuring J.Cole, which stands at no. 72 on Billboard charts. New York rapper Benny The Butcher will release his highly anticipated album Friday, March 11.

“Tana Talk 4” Cover Art

Another tease into the album came on Monday as Benny shares the “Tana Talk 4” cover art on Instagram. A strikingly vivid oil painting of himself, his cousin/collaborator, and also late brother Machine Gun Black as children.

“It just don’t get no more authentic than this,” he writes. “Art by @itsmariel, a painting of MGB ME & @westsidegunn I BEEN makin classic music but it’s more to it than that. This shit about Levels, real n-ggas Power & Connections. I can feel the streets rootin for me it’s drowning out all the haters.”

Benny The Butcher also uses this post to explain what is happening with his contract. He explains “Tana Talk 4” will be released independently through EMPIRE. His future projects will go through the Def Jam record label.

“Produced solely by @daringer_ & @alanthechemist this my last independent Album thank u @empire,” he says. “After this drop I’m walkin in the Def Jam office as an Underground King…Machine Gun We did it !!!! 3/11”

There is also a mural of the cover art in Buffalo, NY, where the trio grew up. Griselda’s representative shares on Twitter, “On the Corner on Genesee & Doat right across from Montana ave. We call this part of the hood ‘The Island.'”

Censoring Benny

Following the mural release, The Butcher publicly shares the backlash on the album’s censorship on Twitter. The 37-year-old MC has since released numerous projects, including Burden of Proof, The Plugs I Met, and the Pyrex Picasso EP. All of which also share the rawness Benny’s of coming up in New York streets. Therefore, he takes to Twitter to express that censorship is incompatible with his art.

“They tryna get me to change my words on TT4 and sensor me too much real shit being said,” he also tweets.

Hopes of No. 1 Album

The Griselda rapper also exudes confidence for his upcoming album “Tana Talk 4,” the follow-up project to “Tana Talk 3,” which enhanced Benny The Butcher’s notoriety. On itsrikip’s Instagram, he states, “Album of the year or consideration before it even came out or even heard a single. I got 10 bands to anyones five, and I got 20 bands to anyones 10. Who wants to take that bet?”

On the “Johnny P’s Caddy” single, Benny The Butcher opens the verse saying,

“Tana Talk 4, this shit mean a lot to me. Know what I mean?…This ain’t my story ’bout rags to riches. More ’bout how I mastered physics”

Naturally, operating with a confident vibration took Benny The Butcher from Montana Ave to a management deal with JAY-Z’s Roc Nation. It is also undeniable that he continues to reach new heights. Therefore, if anyone is to project the numbers on his album, it is the artist himself. Benny The Butcher’s “Tana Talk 4 is to release on March 11 with features including J. Cole, Diddy, fellow Griselda members, Conway the Machine, and Westside Gunn.

Conway’s Album Featuring Lil Wayne Attributes To 2 Chainz

Complex interview with Conway The Machine in November 2021 credited 2 Chainz for getting him a feature from Lil Wayne. In addition, it ultimately led to his collaboration with Rick Ross.

“I definitely gotta thank my bro 2 Chainz, man,” Conway revealed. “2 Chainz is a real dude. I got reached out by Wayne’s camp. Like, Mack Maine and them n***as reached out, but they told me like, ‘2 Chainz was playing me your s**t, bruh. I f**k with your s**t.’ But I had never met 2 Chainz or had a conversation with him on the phone or nothing. It’s just ill to know that there’s dudes that still do shit like that.”

He continued,

“And shit just hit me like, ‘Yo, let me hit these n-ggas, I got something for you.” Wayne sent the verse probably that same night or next morning. After that, I was like, ‘Send that sh-t to Rozay,’ just joking around. And Rozay sent that shit back by the next morning the same way. N-ggas look at them n-ggas in high regard when it comes to this music shit. And this rap sh-t, and just everything n-ggas stand for.”

Conway’s Contract With Shady Records

Furthermore, from the standpoint of his current contract, “God Don’t Make Mistakes” is Conway The Machine’s first and only album on Eminem’s Shady Records. The tracklist includes the recent singles “Piano Love” produced by Hit-Boy and “John Woo Flick” produced by Daringer and Kill.

In August 2020, Conway The Machine appeared on The Bootleg Kev Podcast. He discussed how Eminem allowed him to express himself independently on the album.

“I’ve played God Don’t Make Mistakes for him in Detroit,” he said. “I went to his studio in Detroit, and I played it for him and Paul [Rosenberg], and he had nothing to say. Everything was like, ‘Yo, this shit is crazy.’ I’ve never ever heard any feedback like, ‘Yo, nah, do this, change that. I think you should rap on this beat or do this.’ Never. So I feel like he wants us to just do what we do.”

Conway Ends Contract With Griselda and Shady Records

Conway The Machine ended his relationship with Griselda and Shady Records. He announced that his contract for both labels had been fulfilled. Conway revealed this information to the world during the “Bootleg Kev Podcast.” The Machine is looking now to capitalize on his new position in the rap game. He is a free agent.

“Now It’s Time To Sit Back” And “Figure Out The Future”

The end also comes with no ill will between the labels and Conway. He helped start the Griselda label with his brother, and then Shady Records propelled his name into the mainstream. Conway is looking for his next moves, like any free agent would be doing in his position.

Griselda and Conway The Machine

Griselda is the name of a label, but also the name of a crew. Westside Gunn first used the Griselda name as a clothing line, and from there, it then grew into a band and record label. Gunn, The Machine, and Benny The Butcher were the first members of the crew and label. The record label now also includes other artists as it grows its list. The three original members of Griselda are family, and that goes beyond music. Griselda will always be family to Conway.

Conway’s Shady Records Connection

Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine signed with Shady Records back in 2017. Back then, they were just beginning to find traction within the mainstream music world. Now they are well-known artists with many more fans listening to their music. The relationship between Shady Records and Conway was more turbulent. Still, the music did not suffer during this love-hate relationship. With the contract complete, The Machine is looking for a new home for himself.

What’s Next For Conway The Machine?

Conway is still looking for his next bag while signing his own label. He compares this moment to when Giannis of the Milwaukee Bucks was a free agent. The New York native is looking for his new record label to pay him what he deserves.

This news comes just before the release of his next project. GOD DON’T MAKE MISTAKES is coming to the world on February 25th. Big names will be featured alongside Conway The Machine.

Conway The Machine Drops Freestyles And Honors The Greats

Conway the Machine honored Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Kobe Bryant in his freestyle on Kanye’s “Jail.”

Last week, the rapper honored his fellow rappers and basketball star in his “Devil in a New Dress” instrumental freestyle with Kanye. Itsrikip_ shared the freestyle of Conway bopping to it on Instagram.

“Jigga told me, ‘Don’t worry, n***a, I got you.'”

“Got me Grammy-nominated, I was on Donda, n***a, Kanye my partner.”

“Recorded this two years from the day we lost Mamba/May he rest in peace.”

Check out this snippet of Machine’s IG live below.

And the Griselda rapper wasn’t done there. Riki also posted a video of him freestyling over Baby Keem and Kendrick’s Lamar’s “Family Ties” beat. Afterward, a third video popped up where Conway talked about “something big” coming out for his fans.

“I wanted to give y’all n***as a little sample, though. Y’all n***as know, man, something about to happen. Something about to happen, man. Facts,” he states in the video.

Conway has his God Don’t Make Mistakes album coming in February 2022, but he may be referring to a separate album, La Maquina. According to Rikip, a teaser for Maquina may come out before the new album.

“If I heard clearly, La Maquina is dropping a teaser (guessing a mixtape) before the release of “God Don’t Make Mistakes” on February 25th, 2022.”

Conway The Machine On Kanye’s “Jail”

As stated before, Conway performed on Kanye’s “Jail,” and he apologized to Eminem fans after his interview with VladTV in 2019. Griselda called his fans “nerds” and “stans” back in the day.

“Before the bag, before the rollie/Before I signed a deal with Shady with the rollie/Speaking of Shady, man, after my interview I did with Vlad I felt awful/But I learned you gotta watch what you say in interviews, it could cost you,” his verse went.

After the apology, Conway continues to say that he has a better relationship with Kanye but still respects Shady.

Conway the Machine Shocked by Kayne West’s Studio Expectations

Conway the Machine recently sat down to chop it up with Complex. In the interview, Conway was eager to give some insight into his Kanye West studio experience.

Conway, who shares a feature on Kanye West’s Donda project, reported feeling shocked upon arrival to Ye’s ranch in Wyoming. After receiving three strict instructions, he claims to have felt entirely out of his element.

“At Ye’s studio, drugs, alcohol, and phones were prohibited.”

What’s abnormal about these expectations?

Conway admits that’s not typical recording studio behavior. In fact, in his experience, Conway states he’s accustomed to the opposite.

“I’m used to studio sessions where it’s the homies around. It’s niggas smoking; its n****s drinking. You got ladies over here. You got n****s smoking over there, shooting dice.”

What was Conway the Machine Thinking?

According to Conway, initially, the situation was weird. However, one must wonder if Conway honestly thinks things would be different given West’s experiences.

Everyone knows, Ye does things differently. West lives to do the unexpected.

Given the circumstances surrounding the invitation, Conway still had expectations. Conway admits the entire session came about in a moment of spontaneity.

“He [Kanye] just got a feeling like ‘Yo, man. We should go right now to Cabo and just work on some music!’

So, seems that unusual studio rules would be standard. Thus illustrating West’s spur of the moment nature.

Conway’s Appreciation

One thing is sure Conway quickly got a firsthand lesson in all things Kanye. But he admits the session didn’t disappoint. And he has no regrets. Of the experience he notes,

“it was nothing for me. At the end of the day, I was just happy and blessed to even be welcomed in that man’s atmosphere.”

Uniquely, Conway the Machine’s interview with Complex was a welcome surprise for fans. Yet, anticipation remains high as many continue to wait for an official announcement for the release of ‘God Don’t Make Mistakes‘ Although there is no exact date, we promise to keep an ear out.

See what else is going on in Kanye West’s world with FM Hip Hop’s retrospective articles.

Video: Conway The Machine ft. Ludacris & JID – “Scatter Brain”

Video: Conway The Machine ft. Ludacris & JID – Scatter Brain

Along with JID and Ludacris, Conway The Machine (@WHOISCONWAY) has released a Scatter Brain music video. Artists create different layers of meanings within various forms of screens. Together with hidden meanings, artists bring horrific vibes. TV sets go together with the childishly sounding chorus singing nursery rhymes about murders.

By the way, TV sets show nothing but blurry images. What is the reason to cover emptiness in barbed wire? In the society of commercialized politics, there is no need to restrict any beliefs or movements. Politics are marketed, there are target groups for any other economic/political model; why limit anything if you can make money off it?

Video: Conway The Machine ft. Ludacris & JID - Scatter Brain

However, what worries the modern censors are people escaping politics. The less one thinks of movements and wings, the less one watches TV ads. The less one spends time on social media, the fewer metrics would calculate their consuming preferences.

History and culture commercialize together with politics. Painting of Paris Notre Dame with the Atlas in New York face Rodin’s Thinker souvenir replica sitting on the table. Meanwhile, Conway is in the middle of them, sitting in the chair and rapping for his audience to listen on streaming service and pay.

The song is also a part of the La Maquina album, available on all platforms.
