Drake On “God’s Plan” and the “Drizzy” Give Away

Although Drake has certainly captured headlines and drawn massive attention this year, not all of it has been favorable. This time, the Grammy-winning rapper is in the spotlight not because of a diss track but for voluntarily sharing information. The creator of “God’s Plan” recently disclosed that his proposal for collaboration with prominent entrepreneur Jeff Bezos was turned down by the business tycoon.

Drake and “Gods Plan”

Regardless of any negative opinions an artist may face, their work should be acknowledged and celebrated when it deserves recognition. Drake’s song “God’s Plan” is a phenomenal piece with a strong message that cannot be ignored. Some may not realize that Drake had grander intentions for this project.

The “Drizzy” Giveaway

https://youtu.be/mFas2saqqgg?si=JN-Q1DXx8BN6kBpK

Recently, Drake collaborated with Adin Ross for a holiday stream, which many are calling one of the largest giveaways ever broadcast. His “God’s Plan” music video inspired the idea, yet the stream captured only a small portion of his vision. Drake planned an entire television series around this concept and pitched it to Jeff Bezos. Unfortunately, Bezos opted not to invest in the idea. As Drake stated during the stream, “This is something I’ve wanted to do since I shot [‘God’s Plan’].”

Drake Discusses Concept

Drake’s proposed show aimed to echo the format of the late Anthony Bourdain’s acclaimed series. Titled “God’s Plan,” the concept revolved around Drake traveling to significant locations and engaging with wealthy individuals. The plan was to distribute millions of dollars directly to those in need, showcasing a spirit of philanthropy. Yet, despite its promising premise, the project never materialized. Questions linger about its failure and why high-profile figures, such as Jeff Bezos, did not show interest in funding it. The reasons behind this reluctance remain ambiguous, prompting speculation that not everyone may be willing to embrace a wealth distribution model. This is merely the musings of a journalist, not something confirmed.

“God’s Plan” Always Works Out

Although his original plan did not come to fruition, Drake’s efforts were still successful and positively impacted many. He could have abandoned the idea altogether, but instead, he persevered with his available resources. This demonstrates admirable determination and deserves recognition. Other affluent investors may note his actions, share his vision and expand upon it even more. You never know—you often have to prove skeptics wrong in this world.

Props to Drake

In a world where the takers outnumber the givers, it is always encouraging to know some people continue to give out of abundance. Efforts such as Drake’s use of his platform to pay generosity forward to others are worthy of highlighting. For Drake’s fans who want to know what else the artist gave away on that stream, he provided an update on his upcoming collaborative project.

Drake Vs Kendrick Lamar: The Lyrical Battle

There are rap battles and warfare, and Kendrick Lamar and Drake demonstrated the latter. Lyrically, they were locked and loaded on the battlefield, and neither took prisoners.

A few weeks ago, the world witnessed the start of the next era of rap battles. Older hip-hop fans recall the early ’90s rap battles between legendary artist Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. Since then, there has been little dust-up in battle rap. However, J. Cole and Drake laid the groundwork a little more than a month ago. Like the first match in a title fight, it was only a preview of what was to come when Drake and Kendrick would take their positions in the center of the ring. And as the Ringer points out, it was worth paying attention to. Why? Well as noted

“Hip-hop has become more diffuse and hyper-regional; Drake and Kendrick represent the last artists popular enough to suck up this much oxygen.”

A Journey Through Creative Conflict: Who’s Winning?

Everyone has their own perspective.  However, in terms of balance, Hip-hop reigns supreme. Fans are witnessing lyricists at work, each elevating the other as they reach down into that creative space to find that fire to demolish the competition. This time around, the conflict has been ongoing. So, where did this all start?

“First Person Shooter” and the Rise of an Epic Rap Battle

It all started with the “First Person Shooter” project, which featured Drake and J. Cole.

Cole’s verse was an ominous predictor of what was to come. As Cole flows, “N****s so thirsty to put me in beef, dissectin’my words and start lookin’ too deep.”

And Kendrick Lamar was one who didn’t take too kindly to the mention of his name in the pair’s collaboration. In response, Lamar used his feature on “Like That” to scorch his lyrical nemesis.

Cole responded with a “7-minute drill,” which some interpreted as a few mediocre jabs.

Despite public sentiments, Cole decided to step down gracefully after some thought. Nevertheless, that did not derail the express train to one of the most intense rap battles of all time.

Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar

Drake took offense to Lamar’s verse and responded with a rumored leaked diss track, “Push Ups.” Before Kendrick could respond, Drake aimed and fired again in “Taylor Made Freestyle.”

The heavyweight that Lamar is, he was not taking it on the chin, and he came back stronger with “Euphoria,” which ABC27 describes as a six-and-a-half minute track that “hits like an opus.”

He unleashed a full-fledged lyrical assault that many believed was a TKO that Drake would not recover from

Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar: Go Hard or Go Home

The artist responded with “Family Matters.”

That was nowhere near the end. It became apparent that these two were likely to go for ten rounds. And Lamar didn’t disappoint, coming back with “Meet the Grahams.”

To add insult to injury, in the style of “Mortal Kombat,” Lamar did not just try to “Humble” Drake but “finish him” with “Not Like Us.”

All Eyes on Drake

At this point, Drake had everyone’s attention. Many wondered if Drake’s response was worth it after Lamar’s rapid-fire responses. But when you are in the ring, and your reputation is on the line, you fight until the end. In his track “The Heart Part 6,” the “Certified Lover Boy” stood up for one more pushback, or, as some believe, defensive posturing.

There has been no exchange since Drake’s response was released.  The question remains: Is one even necessary? As ABC 27 notes, the “hotline bling performer sounded “notably lethargic on the song—potentially taking a final bow .”

Hip-hop for the win

Although fans have their favorites, when two artists compete to prove their mettle, hip-hop always wins. So, for FMHipHop readers, who’s your pick?

Audience Drama Unfolds: Drake’s Verbal Confrontation Over Thrown Towel

The latest celebrity scoop is hotter than a jalapeno in a sauna! It turns out that people would gladly wrestle an alligator in a kiddie pool for a keepsake from their favorite stars. Just when you thought the world couldn’t get any odder, Drake, the rap sensation, recently found himself in the center of a towel tug-of-war showdown.

Last Saturday, August 12, the uber-talented “Jimmy Cooks” rapper seized control of the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. The event? None other than the “It’s All a Blur Tour,” featuring 21 Savage. The crowd was amped up, buzzing like a hive of caffeinated bees, as the show unfolded in all its glory.

The air was thick with anticipation as Drake strutted off the stage. The fans, as if possessed by a chorus of banshees, let out a collective shriek that could probably be heard from the moon. And in a move that rivals a plot twist from a telenovela, Drake launched his sweat-soaked towel into the sea of admirers.

@asiasantiago Fans fight over a towel that Drake throws into the crowd. I can’t believe I was this close to him! 🫶🏼 #drake #iaab #kiaforum #itsallablurtour #drakeconcert @kia forum ♬ original sound – Asia Santiago

But as luck would have it, two fans – a brave gentleman and a determined lady – both had their eyes on the prize. They were ready to engage in a towel tussle that would’ve made even the Vikings proud. The towel tug-of-war escalated so fast that Drizzy, not one to shy away from the spotlight, swiveled into action mode.

The Tale Of A Towel And A TikTok Moment

And just like that, the scene turned into a TikTok sensation, a snippet of sheer mayhem caught on camera. The “Not You Too” rapper dashed towards the chaos, with disbelief plastered on his face. He bravely stepped into the conflict, shouting at the man like a modern-day superhero: “Are you dumb?” The crowd, realizing the gravity of the situation, unleashed a chorus of boos upon the astonished man, sending shockwaves through the stadium.

Furthermore, Drake, unfazed by the situation, and with pure swag, pressed forward, completing his exit in style. However, before disappearing into the night like a mythical figure, he cast a final glance over his shoulder, ensuring that his message had been received.

Travis’s Eagle Eyes Spotting The Digital Distractors

Apart from that unforgettable Drake incident, there are a bunch of other eyebrow-raising cases where famous folks had to lay down the law with their adoring fans. Now, imagine snagging tickets to a Travis Scott concert. Sounds fun, right? But before you whip out your phone, here’s some advice: keep that device tucked away if you don’t want to ruffle any feathers. In 2017, the “Down in Atlanta” rapper had a bit of a moment, and I assure you, it was gold.

Travis, doing his thing on stage, pouring his heart out with his famous single “Goosebumps,” the crowd was vibing, the energy sky-high. But what’s this? Amid this energetic atmosphere, Travis’s eagle eyes spot a VIP section filled with folks who aren’t exactly grooving to the rhythm. They’re in their own digital world, texting away like there’s no tomorrow. Now, you can probably guess what happens next.

With the intensity of a thousand suns, Travis unleashes his inner voice and delivers a message that will go down in concert history.

“All you n—as that’s behind the gate that’s on y’all phones, y’all n—as can take your ass home, or y’all can come back and watch the show,” he yelled.

Now that’s a “drop the mic” moment!

So, next time you’re in the audience at a Travis Scott concert, remember: to phone or not to phone? That is the question. And if Travis catches you texting, you might become a part of the show in ways you never imagined.

Drake’s “It Was All A Blur Tour”: First Brooklyn Show With A Special Guest

Iconic artist Aubrey “Drake” Graham absolutely put on a show last night. The Canadian was spreading love all throughout his entire performance to his fans, but he stopped in the middle of the show to take a shot of alcohol. So the “Best I Ever Had” rapper walked towards the DJ booth, where the audience was stunned by a special audience member and his family.

The Currys Make An Appearance At Drake’s Show

The jumbotron shows professional basketball player Stephen Curry, his wife Ayesha, and his mom Sonya in the VIP section. The trio was just vibing to the amazing concert Graham was putting on. Sonya Curry looked like she was having the best time as Drake sang to her. Drizzy stopped to give his “look-alike” and the basketball icon a shoutout. “I got my brother in the building tonight. They say we look alike. Make some noise for my brother Steph Curry in the building one time. And of course, the lovely Ayesha Curry and mama bear, you know,” said the Toronto native. The pair have been friends for a while, with the duo even playing ball in the rapper’s backyard.

Review Of The First Show in New York

The “It Was All A Blur Tour” stop was filled with nothing but love and genuine vibes. There was even a point where Drake made audience members hug someone they did not know in between a song. He wanted everyone to feel comfortable and spread the love that his audience was giving him. He started out the setlist with “Look What You’ve Done” on the album “Take Care.” The “Miss Me” rapper walked through the audience and acknowledged his fans with a smile on his face. He eventually sat next to what looked like a younger version of himself as he rapped the 2011 track. The “kid Drake” appeared throughout the show as popular shows like Family Matters and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air played on the jumbotron. The fans were ecstatic though when one particular show appeared on the screen, which Aubrey Graham appeared on the screen playing basketball. The show was obviously Degrassi.

21 Savage came to the stage towards the latter half of the concert. He came with a different energy to the stage that got the audience turnt up on another level. The Atlanta rapper performed classics like “Bank Account” and “X.”

Tour Dates in New York

His first stop in Brooklyn, New York was Chef’s kiss. I imagine it will only get better from here. He has three more shows at Barclays Center on July 18, 20, and 21. Plus he has three more shows at Madison Square Garden on July 23, 23, and 26.

Drake, Jermaine Dupri, & More Are Working On A Documentary About Magic City

Multiple people and companies joined forces to create a documentary about Atlanta’s legendary strip club, Magic City. Drake’s Dream Crew Entertainment, Jermaine Dupri, Jami Gertz, and Cole Brown made an announcement on Jul. 10 about the three upcoming episodes of the “Magic City: An American Fantasy” docuseries.

The show will give an insight into the story of Magic City, “immersing viewers in a network of intertwining relationships between hip-hop, crime, women’s sexuality & commodification, Black entrepreneurship, and socio-economic politics.”

Nelly, Quavo, Shaquille O’Neal, and many more artists have also participated in the documentary, providing their comments regarding Magic City and its legacy. Together with the artists, the club’s employees and management also gave interviews, and even some journalists provided insight.

As Jermaine Dupri explained, “Magic City is a second home for me. It’s the one place where celebrities, hustlers, politicians, and Atlanta locals all come together. I’ve watched it evolve over the years from a local joint to an internationally recognized spot. It’s about time we tell this story the right way.”

The Story of Magic City

The legendary Atlanta’s club provided a walk to fame for many artists: its Monday night events, where prominent Atlanta Hip-Hop figures would gather to listen to the newest local hits played by the club’s deejays, have accelerated the careers of, for example, Future and Migos.

The club’s history starts in 1985 when Michael “Mr. Magic” Barney opened a small space with one dancer. Mr.Magic himself started off as a salesman in the 1980s in Atlanta, telemarketing printer cartridges. “It was a scam,” the club owner admitted years later.

Magic City still remains simple, yet much more legendary after all these years, during which Madonna and Michael Jordan, who, himself, according to the Magic City owner, “wasn’t hanging out in strip clubs until Magic City” paid a visit.

The Black Mafia Family, a famous drug cartel, who even have their own eponymous show, also declared the place their resting spot during the early 2000s and until going to prison. “BMF shut the club down,” the radio host J-Nicks told GQ. “It was strippers driving Bentleys and owning seven-bedroom houses.”

Today, Magic City remains a legendary place, crucial for Atlanta’s Hip-Hop scene and Hip-Hop culture overall.

Lil Wayne Joins The Pivot Podcast: The Hip-Hop Icon Shares Untold Stories

Iconic rapper Lil Wayne joined The Pivot Podcast to talk about his Louisiana roots, time in prison, and respect over money. Wayne also shared some untold stories about his childhood and the inspiration he pulled over time. The 40-year-old discussed many different things, but something stood out about his craft.

JAY-Z Inspired Lil Wayne’s Process Of Writing

Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., known professionally as Lil Wayne, disclosed he chose to stop writing down his lyrics after he learned that JAY-Z had done the same. He loved rappers like Biggie and Jadakiss, but JAY was always his inspiration. Once he heard that the New York mogul no longer wrote down his rhymes, Wayne said that was it for him. He did not write anything down again. He also went through the process of creating music when he was younger: having the title ready, the topic, what happened in the streets that week and creating a masterpiece.

Lil Wayne On Doing Time In Prison

The “Uproar” rapper talked about his time in prison as well. He mentioned how he saw people get broken down in prison and would not wish that on no one. Wayne did not shy away from growing up in New Orleans, where that wasn’t a foreign thing to do sometimes.

It’s Not About The Money

Carter also shared that when he got his first real check, he handed it to his mother, and she handed it right back to him. She let him know that he made and earned that money, so it was his. He gave thanks to his mother for not only making him the man he is today but the father he is today. Tunechi revealed that he grew up never seeing that many zeros before. But through it all, he pressed it’s the love and respect that matters more than the money.

How Carter Started His Career

The “Lollipop” rapper signed at the age of 14. He shares that his goals started to grow; he went from wanting to be the best in New Orleans to being the best rapper out. The man who discovered Drake and Nicki Minaj even mentioned the moment he crossed into cursing in his music and how big of a leap it was. Lil Wayne discussed going to Miami before Hurricane Katrina and feeling the need to carry New Orleans on his back. He fell in love with the city in Florida, his mother sent his clothes, and he spent the next 20 years in Miami. The New Orleans native also talked about making his way into the industry with Slim & Baby. They popped in with “long shirts and reeboks” into cities like Los Angeles and New York, bringing a new style to hip-hop.

The Late “Uncle Bob”

Joining The Pivot Podcast, Lil Wayne also shared a near-death-experience story. He is grateful for his late “Uncle Bob,” aka Robert Hoobler, that saved the rapper’s life following his suicide attempt at age 12. He told the heroic and heartbreaking story about how the former cop refused to let the legend die.

There’s a fresh study out there that puts the spotlight on which music artists Americans can’t stop Googling! And the results are pretty surprising! The folks at Guitar Aficionado, a site full of guitar enthusiasts, decided to dive into Spotify streaming data. They wanted to figure out who snagged the top spots as the most streamed artists in the US over the past year. They even went the extra mile and investigated which superstars were the most searched for in each American state. Let’s check out who they discovered.

1. Taylor Swift

First on the list is Taylor Swift, who’s rocking the charts in 31 states! This pop sensation has grasped the hearts of fans from Illinois to Ohio, Michigan to her beloved home state of Pennsylvania. While slaying stages on her epic ‘Eras’ tour, Taylor also dominates the internet as the most searched artist nationwide. Can you believe it? 2.43 million searches per month across America! It seems like everyone wants a piece of Taylor’s magic. It’s no wonder she’s ruling the music scene with such flair and popularity.

2. Rihanna

In the thrilling world of artist popularity, Rihanna stands confidently in second place. The Barbadian-born singer has stolen the spotlight as the most searched artist in not one, not two, but seven glorious states across the United States. With an average of 2.18 million searches per month, Rihanna is a force to be reckoned with in the realm of online fascination. The lucky states that bow down to the queen of searches are New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Louisiana, Maryland, and North and South Carolina. With her under the spotlight, you know her fans are clicking those keyboards and typing away!

So, next time you find yourself humming along to one of Rihanna’s catchy tunes (Lift Me Up or We Found Love) or admiring one of her breathtaking fashion choices, recall the journey that took her to this point in her life.

3. Bad Bunny & Elvis Presley

In moving on to the third spot, we will discuss the musical marvels that have gained popularity across the United States through rap and rock ‘n’ roll.

First up, we have Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny. Bad Bunny has carved his path to stardom, conquering the souls of his native Puerto Rico and the vast territories of California, Texas, Nevada, and Florida. With his bouncy beats and energetic stage presence, it is easy to see why he has become the talk of the town.

Fans groove to Bad Bunny’s hits, his music pulsating through the bustling streets of Los Angeles and the lively nightclubs of Miami. What an exciting experience! But can you blame fans for searching the internet to see their favorite bunny? It’s an experience that leaves you wondering, “What’s the secret ingredient in this artist’s magical mix?”

At the other end of the musical spectrum, we find the legendary figure of Elvis Presley. With his irrefutable groundbreaking contributions to rock and roll, Elvis Presley has effortlessly commanded the spotlight, solidifying his status as an icon that transcends generations. From his humble beginnings in Tupelo, Mississippi, to his meteoric rise to fame, Elvis has left an everlasting impression on the music industry.

Imagine the rolling hills of Arkansas echoing with the sounds of “Blue Suede Shoes,” fans in Kansas swaying to the rhythm of “Jailhouse Rock,” and New Mexico’s desert air throbbing with the energy of “Suspicious Minds.” No wonder Elvis continues to rule even after all these years.

Close Encounter: The Narrow Gap Between Bad Bunny And Elvis Presley

Now, let’s compare the numbers. Over the past year, Bad Bunny has been the subject of approximately 1.75 million searches per month across the nation. A staggering figure, no doubt! However, don’t underestimate the allure of the King. Elvis Presley outshines Bad Bunny in this department, garnering 1.94 million monthly searches. It’s a close call, but the King of Rock ‘N’ Roll still manages to hold his ground. This proves that his legacy continues to live on today.

4. Takeoff

Stop everything you’re doing, take your hats off, and let’s give it up for late rapper Takeoff, who’s snatching the fourth spot! Born and bred in the hip-hop hotbed of Georgia, this dynamo was a solo success and one-third of the chart-topping hip-hop trio, Migos.

While these three superstars stole the show, some notable contenders gave them a run for their money. Former One Direction group member Harry Styles, adored by fans across the globe, made quite a splash as the second most searched artist in 16 states. From the sunny shores of California to the vibrant streets of Illinois and from the scenic landscapes of Colorado to the lively atmosphere of Massachusetts, Styles’ magnetic charm resonates far and wide.

Styles took the music world by storm with his debut self-titled album Harry Styles in 2017. With tracks like “Sign of the Times” and “Kiwi,” he showcased his remarkable vocal range and songwriting prowess, effortlessly blending elements of rock, pop, and soul into a mesmerizing blend. But it wasn’t just his music that captivated audiences; it was his ability to connect on a profound level.

In 2019, he unleashed his second studio album, Fine Line, which proved an even greater triumph. This magnum opus demonstrated his growth as an artist, pushing boundaries with tracks like “Watermelon Sugar” and “Adore You,” while maintaining an authentic and relatable essence that has become his trademark.

With upbeat melodies, reflective lyrics, and an unwavering commitment to artistic integrity, Styles proves he can not be overlooked in the spotlight – he is a fierce competitor.

Shining The Spotlight: Guitar Aficionado’s Spokesperson Dishes On The Top Artists In Each US State

A spokesperson for Guitar Aficionado commented on the findings, saying:

“The popularity of different artists in America reflects the diverse musical interests and preferences of people from all walks of life. It highlights the significance of music in American culture as a form of expression and connection between individuals and communities.”

“Interestingly, Taylor Swift dominates the rankings, solidifying her status as one of the most popular artists ever to come out of the United States.”

“Not only is she the first American artist ever to have the top-selling album of the year five times in the US, she is also the first artist to claim each spot in the top ten Billboard’s Hot 100 Songs, following the release of her latest album ‘Midnights’ in October last year.”

A few people agreed with the Cash Money boss, including Quality Control CEO “P” and Snoop Dogg, highlighting that Birdman and his brother Slim put in the work.

You do have to admit that Birdman and Slim put together a label that ran in the late 90s and early 2000s. The label had Lil Wayne, who had the game in the palm of his hands for years.

Ultimately, he paved the way for Drake and Nicki Minaj to be the stars that they are. Birdman has seen a lot of success with these three artists alone.

Birdman’s Questions To EYL’s CEO List

Labels have always impacted Hip Hop immensely; therefore, Stunna does have a point. Cash Money/Young Money shifted the culture more than a few times.

The popular financial podcast Earn Your Leisure released its list of top ten CEOs in Hip Hop history. Birdman is at the top of their CEO list. Next are Diddy, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Russell Simmons, Master P, LA Reid, Dame Dash, Jermaine Dupri, and Suge Knight. The Cash Money boss saw the list and said “P” from Quality Control should also be on the list.

“P from @QC should be 2nd no doubt noshade jus being real gangsta CMRG.”

It looks like Birdman has liked this list since being number one, but there’s no doubt he still wants that official list from Billboard.

B.G. Almost Home

Just last week, the Cash Money CEO gave an update on rapper B.G. as he is serving time behind bars. Birdman took to Instagram to post the picture of his friend with the caption, “Be home in a minute.” B.G. ‘s scheduled release is for April of 2024, but Stunna has been hinting at an early release for a while.
