Summer’s Last Project: 2021 Still Over It

The 20-track album was surrounded by loads of drama, but was Walker’s heartbreak masterpiece.

Opening with support from New York rapper Cardi B on Bitter to the album’s closing with Ciara’s Prayer.

Her sophomore album was No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

The No Love singer made history with the 2021 LP during its first week with over 201 million streams.

Leading to Still Over It breaking the record of the largest streaming week for an R&B album by a female artist.

Dreamville Festival This Past Weekend

Legendary rappers J.Cole and Drake co-headlined the music festival in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Special appearances included artists such as Summer Walker, Glorilla, Lil Uzi Vert, Usher and Lil Wayne.

The festival came with tons of memorable moments like Usher playing a cruel April Fool’s Prank.

The R&B legend joked that Mrs. Carter would be joining him on stage and his audience waited in anticipation as well as excitement.

Then charmingly said, “April fools” to his audience. It was a cute moment from the Good Kisser singer.

Hidden Features & A Missing 16th Song

Many were excited to see what artists JID will collaborate with on The Forever Story upon the tracklist reveal today. While the features are still a mystery, there aren’t that many of his peers who can (or want) to keep up with Dreamville’s brightest star under J. Cole. There are tons of talented producers who made it onto the final tracklist including Monte Booker & Christo (who produced the most songs). It’s unfortunate that the song 2007, which is supposed to be the outro, couldn’t make the album due to its sample usage. His team still released the song & visualizer on Youtube for fans to experience:

What Else We Know About JID’s New Album

The album is finally arriving on our streaming service accounts & libraries this weekend. Both lead singles Dance Now with Kenny Mason & Surround Sound featuring 21 Savage & Baby Tate. As mentioned above, it was supposed to be 16 songs until the original outro was removed. Overall, things are shaping up very nicely for this release & hopefully we’ll see which other artists will appear on one of the most highly anticipated albums this year. JID Believes A Lot Of Bigger Artists Are Scared To Rap With Him

JID is easily one of the most talented lyricists & overall rappers in Hip-Hop right now. While we await his upcoming album The Forever Story, he’s been tearing through features with many superstars including Doja Cat, Kid Cudi, Imagine Dragons & more. However, JID went on Twitter a few days ago (June 21st) to call out some of his bigger rap peers for avoiding collaborating with the Atlanta native. “I think y’all n***az scared, I’m talking bigger rap artists,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet. It’s important to mention that JID is primarily calling out bigger-name artists because he is very active in the underground scene. Take a look at his deleted tweets below:

His First Top 10 Hit Is From A Guest Appearance

While it’s understandably why JID would like to test his ability against more established rappers, he’s doing perfectly fine right now. The Dreamville rapper earned his first top 10 Billboard hit song back in March with his Imagine Dragons collaboration “Enemy”. It’s easily his biggest song now & adds to the momentum he’s building for The Forever Story album. I’m sure he wasn’t complaining about his recent Pop features when he tweeted out, “None of my rap co workers be tryna rap wit me dawg… Only women and pop stars lol,” alongside his other deleted tweet.

JID Dropping The Forever Story Very Soon

It’s been almost 4 years since JID’s last official project Dicaprio 2 from 2018. This new album will serve as a follow-up to his debut Dreamville project The Never Story. With fans eagerly waiting & his career getting bigger every day, there are lots of expectations for JID. He hasn’t disappointed yet & the momentum surrounding this new album is insane. Hopefully, there will be songs with his peers, labelmates, AND bigger rappers who may have been scared to rap with one of the best out right now. Drake May Have Assisted With J. Cole Signing To Canadian Basketball Team

J. Cole’s dreams to play professional basketball are finally coming to life. The rapper recently signed with Canadian Elite Basketball League’s Scarborough Shooting Stars.

Drake and J. cole
Drake Helps J. Cole Sign with The Shooting Stars.

Hip Hop DX reported that Drake was in connection with the deal. Nicholas, “Niko” Carino who is a co-founder of OVO and part-owner of the Shooting Stars also happens to be a close friend of Drakes. It was reported that Carino and Cole met up last year at Drake’s birthday party. The two had discussed potential opportunities for the artist.

Carino said, “You know, Dreamville and OVO are family, Drake had a birthday party in L.A. last year. The conversation was, ‘I heard you have your team.’ It organically grew from there.”

The league is set to host its season openers and J. Cole is ready to shine!

The Guelph Nighthawks will be receiving a visit from the Shooting Stars Thursday, May 26th. The No Role Modelz rapper has earned the respect of his teammates in his short training camp stint before this weeks season kick off. Olu Famutimi who plays small forward says, “J. Cole, he’s really putting in the work, Whatever we’re doing, he’s doing probably even more. Comes in early, stays late, and his drive right now, he wants to become better and wants to be known as a guy that can really hoop.”

According to FM Hip Hop, back in July of 2021, Dreamville partnered up with Wilson Sporting Goods to revive the historic Chi-League pro-am basketball tournament. Dreamville’s mission in the Chi-League is critical as their involvement helps raise interest, design custom team apparel, and ensure unique in-game experiences for fans. J. Cole also played three games with the Rwanda Patriots in the Basketball Africa League.

It seems the leading member of Dreamville appears to have the respect of his rap peers such as long-time hoopers Dave East and Fivio Foreign who has recognized Cole for his achievements and for chasing his hoop dreams.

J Cole Attends One Lucky Fan’s College Graduation

J Cole proved he doesn’t bluff this week. The North Carolina native thankfully kept his word and checked up on this diehard fan.

J Cole makes a dream come true

In 2013,  Cierra Bosarge called a local radio station saying her biggest dream is a birthday shoutout from J Cole. However, according to a Complex report, it took only three short months for Bosarge to hear from Cole. Soon after, the Dreamville rapper met up with her in person. During their meeting, Cierra delved into her past and revealed the struggles she’d overcome to make it there.

Cierra is adopted and had two parents both suffering from drug addiction. In addition to that, Cierra’s mom and dad were incarcerated and unable to attend her high school graduation. In a brave move, the young super fan asked Cole if he would attend the graduation ceremony. The ‘No Role Modelz’ artist said yes, but with some conditions.

“I read your letter twice now. you are so strong, I admire YOU,” he wrote back. “I will be at your graduation… only IF you get into a 4 year University. go!”

Word is bond

Bosarge, in her ambitious fashion, graduated on a track to a 4-year university. Cole of course stuck to his word and attended the high school graduation. Moreover, he’s made an appearance at Cierra’s recent college graduation ceremony. Cole was seen looking proud at the Rowan University event. The unexpected gesture drew an emotional reaction from Bosarge, who certainly has some huge bragging rights. “i’m front row crying at my graduation y’all” she typed.

Clearly, J Cole is an artist that has a deep appreciation for his fans.

J Cole’s “No Role Modelz” Song Grants Him His First Diamond Record

Carolina’s Finest, J Cole, has accomplished a huge feat for a music artist in the entertainment industry. His 2014 released album “2014 Forest Hills Drive,” which is also double platinum, has acquired diamond status for the song “No Role Modelz.”

Every Song On The New J. Cole Album Is Now A Charting Hit

The Come Up

Cole is one of the most prolific and influential artists of the twenty-first century. He is from Fayetteville, North Carolina where he spent his childhood in a very diverse environment. He once recollected in an interview how that impacted him.

“I can identify with white people, because I know my mother, her side of the family, who I love. But at the end of the day, [I’ve] never felt white. I identify more with what I look like, because that’s how I got treated [but] not necessarily in a negative way.”

As an interracial man that primarily identifies as black, he understands that he’s seen as a stereotype as a rapper.

No Role Modelz

Cole’s song “No role modelz,” has made numerous accomplishments aside from his recent Diamond certification. It has also peaked at number 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has broken the Spotify chart record with 2,274 days on the U.S Spotify Chart. His content and delivery throughout the song detail his awareness of multiple influences around him that he believes are good influences, despite him not being able to imitate their likeness. As a rapper, he told his life paralleling the typical rap star life as he tries to be an honest man outside of his occupation’s norm. He managed to express that in a way that resonated with younger and older generations.

Cole makes himself the bridge between two generations who recognizes the ways of them both. He intelligently uses his disposal to resonate with so many people which gives him a huge fan base. He continually uses his stream of consciousness and unique wordplay to tantalize the ears of the music and entertainment industry.

T.I. Gets Into Argument With Lauren Knight

Grammy-winning rapper T.I. got into it on Monday night at an open mic. At Our Bar in Atlanta, Georgia, a video surfaced of T.I. and the event’s host, Lauren Knight, going back and forth.

In the “One Knight Only” open mic series, Knight mentions the sexual assault allegations against the rapper and his wife, Tiny. T.I. denies what Knight is saying and adds that the case was thrown out.

T.I. v. Lauren Knight

The next day, the comedian also posted her reaction to T.I. on Instagram. She started by saying T.I. was heckling her during her set while she joked about relationships and marriage. Once he suggested that she take her wig off, she had had enough. Knight brought up the sexual assault case. She made it known that she could say whatever she wanted because this was her event.

“If I want to make jokes about something, I’ll make jokes about something. You’re not going to tell me to shut the fuck up in my shit. This is my shit. Let’s be very clear”.

Brothers Reunite

T.I. attempted to engage with the comedian more, but his mic was cut off. Surprisingly, he eventually got on stage and hugged Knight at the end.

As Tip ignites a new feud, he recently put out an old one. At J.Cole’s Dreamville Festival this past weekend, the legendary DJ Drama’s set included Jeezy, Lil Wayne, and T.I. The latter two hitting the same stage may come as a surprise as they have not interacted in years.

In 2016, T.I. also did not like the comments Tunechi had to say about the Black Lives Matter group. But on Sunday, T.I. surprised Weezy by walking on stage during his set, and the duo performed “Swagga Like Us.” They ended the performance with a hug as Wayne called T.I. his real brother.

Hopefully, T.I. and Lauren Knight will reconcile more quickly than he and Wayne did.

Dreamville Records Responds To Rapper Who Claims J. Cole Copied His Song

The aspiring rapper who claimed J. Cole and his team were behind the theft of his song “Stick” are retracting those claims after speaking with the record label. Similarly, the song appears on the D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape, made available on Thursday night (Mar. 31).

Furthermore, on Friday (April 1), Rockstar JT of Atlanta, Georgia, wrote on Instagram,

“In 2020 I dropped STICK … 2022 @dreamville dropped STICK … I know they are way bigger artist than me but these songs sound identical just structured different .. this is not for clout but do y’all hear it?”

Apparently, Dreamville Has Responded To The Aspiring Rapper

As a result of Rockstar JT’s tweet being shared on The Neighborhood Talk, the post gained enough traction for Dreamville to respond allegedly. Therefore, in a recent update to his post, the aspiring rapper claimed to have spoken with someone at the label. Surprisingly, based on his explanation in the caption, the song in question is from 2019.

“I talked with the team behind the song and they were in contact with dreamville’s team and come to find out they had their song recorded in 2019 it just wasn’t released,” he wrote. “ I posted the post last night & this morning I found out when it was recorded.”

Also, JT wrote in the caption,

“Thankful for everybody supporting man. This morning the air was cleared. let’s move on and build all these BLACK artists up.c #Dreamville #Stick.”

For comparison, the songs appear below. Do you prefer one of the songs over the other?

Recent Popularity Of DJ Drama’s Gangsta Grillz Series

Dreamville is no stranger to team-based projects. Likewise, a trio of Revenge of the Dreamers albums has been available since 2014. Among the newest releases is the platinum-certified Revenge of the Dreamers III, which features cameos from DaBaby, Vince Staples, Maxo Kream, and others.

Furthermore, DJ Drama’s legendary Gangsta Grillz series has recently enjoyed a surge in popularity. Drama hosted Tyler, The Creator‘s Grammy-nominated album CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST. Similarly, this moment is a flashback to the DJ’s heyday in the mid-2000s. He flooded the streets with mixtapes featuring artists such as Lil Wayne, Jeezy, and Tyler’s idol, Pharrell.

In short, last year, Drama joined forces with Jim Jones for We Set the Trends and Fat Joe for What Would Big Do 2021. Moreover, Drama may be able to arrange for a Gangsta Grillz mixtape release for De La Soul as well.
