Steve Stoute says Drake’s Independence Could End the Music Industry

Steve Stoute says Drake’s independence could end the music industry.

There’s no doubt that Drake is the most popular and profitable artist of this generation in music. “The Boy,” has changed the sounds of Hip Hop and R&B since his arrival and it doesn’t look like he’s planning to end his reign anytime soon. Steve Stoute has made it his business to keep artists independent and give them ownership. Drizzy’s contract with Cash Money and Universal is about to expire. Drake has the potential to either create a historic partnership deal. Or he could put his career in his own hands and have complete control.

While on a conference during the virtual SelectCon, Stoute told Russ, “If Drake goes independent, the music business is over, If Drake goes independent, the music business is done.”

In addition to Stoute knowing the ins and outs of business deals, Russ who’s an independent artist himself thinks Drake should leave the record labels and “fuck the whole shit up.”

An Independent Drake

“Drake uploads ‘God’s Plan’ on a digital distributor so whatever money it is: less than 10 dollars, right? Fine, pay for the beat, $10K, $20K, $30K, $40k, whatever the fuck it is, and to get mixed: four racks. So you’re all, $50K tops.” Russ continues to explain that Drake would be the one owning the music 100%, and would receive millions of dollars weekly off his independent releases. “If Drake goes independent, this whole industry gets turned upside down”

Stoute also stated that “Drake is about to come out in the next six months, about to get the biggest bag in the history of the music business by far. Both A and B, they don’t want that to happen. Because the day that happens, they might as well close the business down.”

Nevertheless, there’s no secret that most artists of this generation crave their independence and freedom from labels. The music industry better prepare because a change is coming. If the 6-god wants to be completely independent he has the potential to change the music industry into a place that cares about the value an artist can bring and the ownership they can take with them.

Vince Staples says Atlanta has the Best Rappers

Vince Staples says Atlanta has the Best Rappers

Vince Staples put Twitter in a frenzy this week after coming to T.I’s and the Atlanta rap scenes defense.

The summoned Verzuz battle between T.I and 50 Cent has everyone excited in hopes Timbaland and Swizz Beatz can pull it together.

T.I’s been adamant about this battle claiming in an Instagram video “nobody scared of you 50.” Tip also has been commenting on every post 50 cent makes. He’s basically poking the bear for retaliation.

50 has yet to respond if the battle is certain or not but posted numerous pics on his IG clapping back at T.I. “Yo somebody passed TI the weed they gave smokey in Friday. LOL.” He then posted a video of T.I’s infamous crime stoppers video.

Atlanta Got Something To Say

While the two Hip Hop heavyweights clap back in fun with each other, another debate formed. Who would win the battle if it went down? For the most part, the majority of people have 50 winning in a landslide. Vince Staples has to take a moment to remind everyone of the greatness that is T.I and Atlanta.

Staples tweeted, “Y’all just be talking to fit in T.I. got a plethora of bangers, Atlanta got the best rappers ever and it’s not even close.”

Many fans disagreed passionately claiming that New York was the home of Hip Hop and produced more legends. He further explained his point by giving examples of there being “ten billion rappers from Atlanta and they all got a classic song and unique outfits.” He further explained Young Dro is top tier in wordplay but doesn’t even get brought up in being a top rapper from ATL.

The Long Beach rapper even gave Young Thug his flowers for having wordplay and being creative but not getting enough credit because “Thug lacks content.” Vince further gave evidence to this point stating, “y’all didn’t say that for Ghostface or ODB.”

Vince’s Points

Staples continued going back and forth with fans jokingly saying he has more NY Yankee hats than everybody coming for him. He ended his series of tweets by saying, “Y’all be treating personal preference like it’s the law of the land we gotta stop that.”

Agree or disagree, Vince brought up a few facts. What do you think? Has ATL been the resting ground for Hip Hop’s best?

Why Hip Hop Needs the Joe Budden Podcast

The Joe Budden Podcast

In Hip Hop culture the OGs in the game are who the next generation coming up needs to survive. The JBP (Joe Budden Podcast) gives listeners, people in the media, and artists a pure and unfiltered voice. An opinion that most need to hear but don’t want to.

Budden has never been a media darling and has fought for the rights of artists his entire career. Having corny moments online and especially getting into fisticuffs on Love & Hip Hop, people don’t give Joe credit. While not being the rapper with the most sales, it’s easy to forget how nice he was as a solo artist and in supergroup Slaughterhouse.

The Beginning Of Podding

In 2015 he made a shift in his career and started releasing a weekly podcast, I’ll Name This Podcast Later. He started it with friends Rory Farrell and Marisa Mendez. This form of therapy and being a critic of culture eventually became his passion and main focus. Joe along with Rory added Mal and Parks to the team which later became known as The Joe Budden Podcast.

The group collectively give different opinions and views on various topics in pop culture. Their main focus being Hip Hop and the industry surrounding it. Every episode is an endless supply of laughter, hot-takes, and unadulterated truth.

#FmEntertainment The Joe Budden Podcast Members

The team has seen every side of the rap industry and have been jaded by it. The jadedness mixed with being comfortable with your friends makes for prime time entertainment. The JBP never hold their tongues when it comes to issues, rumors, and trending topics. At least once a week they find themselves in hot water for going against the sheep of the world. They never waver, they always stand firm on their opinions.

Each member of the group has ties to either rappers, producers, or managers and know when something isn’t right in the water. They break down business deals in layman’s terms and give advice to artists that put the artists’ needs and well-being first.

No Sugar Coating

Some are thrown off by the raw way they talk because they don’t sugar coat facts. If you’re an artist or a “creative,” in a bad deal and it’s public info,  they’re gonna let you know how dumb you are for signing your life away. But they will tell you how to go about it the correct way when it’s time to renegotiate and how to survive in the cut-throat industry of music without compromising your morals.

Hip Hop needs the JBP, we need voices who aren’t afraid to get “dragged” on Twitter.  We need voices that don’t support groupthink. Up and coming artists need the JBP because they always have their hand on the pulse of the culture, and the knowledge that they give is nothing less than a free $1500 ticket to a music seminar. Social media might paint the Podcast members in a shady light at times, but that’s what happens when you’ve changed the whole trajectory of how powerful podcasts can be.

DL Hughley Tests Positive for Covid-19

DL Hughley Tests Positive for Covid-19 after passing out on stage.

A social uprise may be happening, but that doesn’t mean any of us are safe from COVID-19. Comedian OG, actor, and political pundit DL Hughley shook us all last weekend when he passed out on stage during a show in Nashville.

During his performance at the Zanies comedy club, DL collapsed and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The next day Hughley posted a video on Instagram stating he was treated for “dehydration and exhaustion” from earlier travels.

He also confirmed that he tested positive for Coronavirus which he says “blew him away. “
“I was what they call asymptomatic, I didn’t have any of the symptoms, the classic symptoms.”

DL also made light of the situation by jokingly saying, “if you pass out in the middle of a show, on stage, you probably need to get tested.” It’s great seeing the comedian in good spirits after testing positive and passing out, that’s a strong brother.

The comedy legend ended the video thankful for the prayers and well wishes he’s received and welcomes more. Get well soon DL, we need you, especially in times like this.

Our Recap of Insecure’s Season 4 Finale

Insecure Season 4

The cultural phenomenon put us all in our emotions and feelings this week. Just when things were finally looking up in the Insecure universe, all comes crashing down in just a few moments. This season hit different for a lot of fans, we’ve all been through what the Insecure gang is going through.

Issa and Lawrence

Unfortunately for our favorite on-again-off-again couple their love might be in jeopardy after Condola went to talk with Lawrence and revealed she’s pregnant and is keeping the baby. Who knows where Issa and Lawrence stand now with this bomb that’s been dropped. They already had too much baggage to work through without adding a baby in the mix. Let’s pray next season Issa doesn’t mind being a step-mom.

Molly and Issa

The friendship between Issa and Molly has been rocky all season. It may be because Issa finally has her own life goals and is always in go mode but cant find the balance of work/life without It being messy in some ways (being friends with Condola) and can feel judged when confiding in Molly. On the other hand Molly is in a new fresh relationship and is trying her best not to repeat past mistakes but still can’t seem to find happiness. Maybe sometimes bestfriends outgrow each other. But in the last scene of the finale, Issa and Molly sit down for a hopeful reconnection. Honestly would y’all take Molly back as a friend? Me? na but I’m petty.

Tiffany and Derek

Tiffany and Derek have been through a lot this season with a newborn and her dealing with postpartum depression. It all came to an emotional tipping point in the finale. Tiffany didn’t return home after going out for the day which left Derek worried and anxious. With the help of Issa’s Lyft detective skills and a taco restaurant security camera they tracked Tiffany down. The crew found Tiffany at a nearby Sheraton hotel. All she could do was hug Derek and apologize in which he understood, he apologized himself and held his woman. Even in the “perfect” relationship there’s problems.

Molly and Andrew

If one couple was doomed from the beginning it was Molly and Andrew. Emotions and feelings came out from both sides in the finale with Andrew tired of the compromises he makes, and Molly left fighting for an empty relationship. Hopefully next season they can find common ground.

Season four of Insecure has been one for the books and continues to shine. Insecure perfectly depicts young black adults trying to find happiness and love while chasing their goals and dreams.
