The event also included a marketplace where local artisans and entrepreneurs sold handcrafted goods, African-inspired clothing, and traditional foods. This not only supported small businesses but also highlighted the economic contributions of African Americans to the local community.

Drake Might Be Retiring Soon

After seven studio albums and over a decade in the rap spotlight, Drake may be finally ready to proceed with retirement.

During a recent interview with Lil Yachty, the Toronto rapper teased a potential retirement.

Earlier this week (Feb 23), Lil Yachty released a trailer of an exclusive interview with his friend and music industry peer Drake. The interview was done in promotion of Yachty’s sunglasses brand, Futuremood.

https://twitter.com/thewavecheckk/status/1629270562244640771

A Look Back At Drake

“I’m at the point now where I just want to like, and I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day, but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” Drake explained in the clip.

This isn’t the first time the “Her Loss” rapper has hinted towards an exit from the rap game. Recently, fans have noticed Drake take a more reflective approach to his art. During his January show at Harlems Apollo Theater, he performed a greatest hits setlist and was quoted telling the audience, “I wanted to make this about gratitude.”

In addition, Drake has been incorporating old moments from his early career into performances like his famed Degrassi Jimmy Brooks jersey.

Despite all this, you shouldn’t panic just yet if you’re a fan. According to an Okayplayer report, Drake made sure to dispel retirement rumors at the same Apollo show last month. “I’ve thought about a bunch of things in life, but at this moment in time, none of those things are stopping making music for you. So I’ll be here for you for a little bit at least,” he said.

Artists And Retirement

At 36 years old, Drake certainly isn’t a rookie anymore. But even if retirement is on the horizon, it’s doubtful that we’ll never hear from him again.

For artists like Jay-Z and 50 Cent, who once ran the rap industry before diverting to other affairs, the music never stops being a priority.

After his 2003 retirement, Jay went on to release “Kingdom Come,” “American Gangster,” “The Blueprint 3,” “Watch the Throne,” “Magna Carta… Holy Grail,” and “4:44.” Meanwhile, 50 put out 3 more albums after his 2007 retirement threat.

With Drake being the most prolific rapper working today, it would be surprising for him to hang up the towel right now. Still, the ‘Knife Talk’ artist has made some unexpected moves before.

Is Fabolous Dropping A New Project?

Last week, Fabolous dropped another single!  This time he grabbed Harlem native Dave East as they made “Bach to Bach”.  The song also comes with a video directed by WillC and Fab himself.  You can also spot Meek Mill in the video as he makes a cameo.  Fabolous has been on a roll lately.  The Brooklyn rapper is still proving he has bars for days.  Last month, he put out “Rich Hustle” featuring another Harlem rapper, Jim Jones.  Fab also shot a video to this song as well.  The Young OG has been keeping it strictly New York as well.   He tapped French Montana for “Say Less”, another single for the Summer.  It’s safe to say Fab has been working, working.  We, as fans are getting treat after treat.

Freestyle Fab

Before the flurry of singles, Fab put out a few freestyles as well.  First, he did a freestyle over Amerie’s hit song, “1 Thing”.  Then, the rap legend followed that up with his “Easy” freestyle, which came with a video too.  Fab himself directed the video alongside Marco Sandoval and there are more cameos in this one that includes Fivio Foreign and DaniLeigh.  Fab also did another freestyle, this time with his 6-year-old son Jonas on Father’s Day.  They both rapped over Drake’s “Champagne Poetry” beat with Dad labeling it “Apple Juice Poetry”.  Jonas just might be following in his dad’s footsteps.  That’s how Fabolous became who he is, countless freestyles in the beginning of his career.  Jonas may also be a producer as his dad has dropped visuals of Jonas using production equipment on social media.  He is well on his way!

We Outside

Fab has been busy outside of the booth too.  He made an appearance at All Elite Wrestling as he walked out with one of the challengers.  He sat ringside to watch the match with DJ Whoo Kid.  Fab was also spotted at DJ Khaled album release party for ‘God Did’.  Fab usually drops something when it gets cold out.  It looks like he’s looking to drop something towards the Winter.  We’ll wait and see!

There are all types of public figures but hope there are more opportunities for the underdogs.” 100 Grand expresses.

Diddy’s Charter School Locks In A New Location

Diddy’s Harlem Charter School has changed locations. They did so to allow for more students. The place that they moved to is shocking and amazing.

Last Thursday, Diddy announced that Capital Preparatory School in Harlem will move to the Church of All Saints and School building in New York’s Harlem neighborhood. This move will allow for   500 to 700 more students for the 2022-2023 school year. Combs brought to fruition the prep school in 2016.

The Church of All Saints, was built in the 1800’s.  In 2007, the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission designated the church as a landmark. In 2015, the parish was merged with another church. The building was also officially deconsecrated in 2017.

Combs is a Harlem native and has always been an advocate for education. Previously, he has gifted $1 million to open a Bronx location, which had opened last year. The school belongs to a network of Capital Preparatory Schools. Their mission is to ” provide historically disadvantaged students with the college and career readiness skills needed to become responsible and engaged citizens for social justice.”

Diddy’s new campus will have 40 classrooms and offices, a sports room, science labs, a cafeteria, an outdoor communal courtyard. There is also a “Great Hall” for all school assemblies and performances.

“The kids of Harlem should have access to opportunity and a quality education and deserve to learn on a campus that reflects the level of excellence we aspire for them to achieve,” Combs said in a statement. “This new campus for Capital Prep Harlem reflects my commitment to empowering as many children as I can and creating spaces for the next generation of leaders to thrive in every aspect of their lives.”

Words have so much power and often control the narrative in which we view the world. A common theme in the wonderfully constructed Netflix mini-series “When They See Us”, directed by Ava DuVernay.

A$AP Ferg And A$AP Rocky Pays Homage To DMX With “Pups”

Salutations FM Trendsetters and FM Hip Hop Heads!  Hope everyone had a great weekend! We also hope all the mothers worldwide enjoyed their well deserved Mother’s Day! While everyone was taking their mothers out to nice restaurants, two pivoted figures of the Harlem A$AP Mob collective released a track that was guaranteed to “get uglier than Balenciagas“. A$AP Ferg teamed up with his fellow member A$AP Rocky on a banger that gives you that 1998 feel.  The DMX sampled “Pups” banger.  This is not your average sampled track.  The banger samples Ruff Ryder and former Def Jam emcee DMX‘s 1998 debut single “Get At Me Dog (featuring Sheek Louch)” track.  No instruments was changed.  The song was done in its original and rawest form.  From the drums, snares and barking ad libs to the “Where my dogs at? We right here dog…” references.
