Baby Tate Responds to Hitmaka Tweets With a Diss

ATL’s Baby Tate clearly isn’t happy with Hitmaka’s recent comments on female rappers.

Controversial Chicago producer Hitmaka, formerly known as Yung Berg, has been the center of drama following his tweets on the state of female rap this weekend. Plenty have stepped in to give their 2 cents, but none have caught quite as much attention as Baby Tates diss track.

What Started the Storm

“Can’t wait to work with a pretty female rapper that’s strictly about bars to even the playing field.” The 37-year-old tweeted. “P—— rap was cool when it had shock value and was rare,”

He continued withil, “Now it’s like every girl taking it there. It’s [some] who aren’t but they need a hit producer [for] impact.”

Of course, this drew immediate criticism from all corners of social media. Many opposers pointed out how hard it is for female artists to break due to the harsh beauty standards enforced in the tweet. Others took it a step further and spoke up about the abundance of producers meeting with women under false pretenses, wanting to make more than just music.

“i always see men in the industry preach they want it to all be about business then bring their d—- to the table when you get around them.” Singer/songwriter Essence responded. “I’ve been a artist for over 10 years and have yet to meet a record exec prod an who was really about business.”

Other Twitter users pointed out names like Flo Milli and Noname to disprove Hitmaka’s claims. With the massive amount of traction, female rap has gained in just a few years, the ‘Look What You Made Me’ artist got a huge wave of backlash from artists and fans alike. But it didn’t stop there.

Baby Tate hopped on TikTok to drop ‘Pu$$y Rapper’ a diss record directed at Hitmaka. In the song she mocks the producer, rapping “Lil wack n——. How dare you?! Maka hit for yourself. Ain’t been hot since Mim’s ‘Hot’ – Love & Hip Hop ain’t help.”

In addition to this, baby Tate takes the chance to point out Hitmaka’s position in the industry, and his apparent hypocrisy. “N—— just said the female bars so wack. Ain’t you writing ’em? Wonder why these hoes’ heads be so gassed up. Boy, ain’t you hyping ’em?” She says.

Showing Support

Following the diss, the young artist then made a tweet to clarify why she dropped. “As I said it’s no beef! The call was for a ‘pretty female rapper strictly about bars’ and instead of being a dick rider and a pick-me, I decided to bar Mr. Hitmaka up.” She typed. There are plenty of GORGEOUS rappers with a plethora of topics & a slew of bars. U just have to open [your] eyes.”

Baby Tate wasn’t the only one put off by Hitmaka’s comments. Outspoken as ever, Asian Doll tweeted out a response to the Chicago producer. “I feel like why do n##### always [worry about] what female rappers rap about?” She asked. “N——- been rapping bout the same thing since rap was invented,”

She finished, “Ladies rap for the ladies not for you n—— and we running s—- [right now] so let us be US even [though] I don’t only rap about my p—— still [shut the f—- up].”

The debate of sexual content within female rap has been raging for quite some time. You may remember back in 2020 when ‘WAP’ by Cardi b and Megan Thee Stallion raised the eyebrows of rappers, journalists, and even politicians.

Hitmaka Opens Up About His Mother Sending Him To Boot Camp After Signing With DMX’s Label

Multi-platinum producer, Christian J. Ward, better known as, Hitmaka, began his music career as a rapper on DMX’s label. He is now a well-known producer and actor holding a great reputation. Over twenty years ago the artist featured on the song, “Dog 4 Life”, which appeared on the Exit Wounds soundtrack, under the name Iceberg, which he later changed to Yung Berg. According to Hip hop DX, the 36-year-old sat down on Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion Podcast to open up about how his mother sent him away, putting a pause on his career.

During the interview, Hitmaka said his mother contacted him to meet at a Red Lobster in Chicago. He remembers leaving a recording session in Toronto with DMX. At the time, Ward was only 19. The Chicago native said he was tricked into going to Spring Creek Lodge Academy. The juvenile placement facility in Montana is now closed down. Hitmaka say’s, “She was like ‘Chris you gotta go to school!’ She go jump in her car, locked the door and popped the trunk. There’s bags packed and now I’m fighting in the middle of a parking lot and they put plastic cuffs on me.”

The institution was horrific!

Hitmaka discusses how he witnessed many horrors and abuse in the academy. The facility closed in 2009 after the New York Times released a piece covering allegations of sexual abuse, physical violence and psychological duress that occurred there. He stated, “My mom had signed away all her parental rights,” continued. “I’m in this concentration camp type shit where they cut me off from the world. They were paying five grand a month for me to stay there…I didn’t know 9/11 happened. I didn’t know Aaliyah died…the Feds came and shut the shit down.” This is what put a major hold on Hit’s career.

Later in the episode, Hit discuss’s DMX drug problem admitting he had no idea how bad it really was.

Hitmaka Shares Unique Experience He Had With DMX

The Hip hop community lost someone extraordinary when DMX left this world in 2021. To say his passing was a shock is putting it mildly. No one expected he would be gone so soon. However, the impact of his death on hip hop was significant and looming, making it more than evident that the void he left would be one incapable of filling.

Hitmaka Shares An Experience

Like most legends who have touched many, lots remain to be shared. And yesterday, Hitmaka let the world in on a moment of impact he shared with the late DMX.

According to Hitmaka, one memory of DMX still stands out, a moment when he came to see the authentic X. In the interview, Hitmaka recounts when he witnessed DMX taking a nap on the sidewalk beside his car. The performer notes that he and a few others were in the studio and had just wrapped their session when they found DMX’s keys still inside. But X had left the studio a bit before. When he and the others exited the studio, they found DMX. According to Hitmaka, this is what the X had to say when they saw him,

“Ay yo, leave me the f*ck alone real quick.’ N***a”

Then X proceeded to sleep on the sidewalk by his Benz.

Hitmakas Response

While this may seem alarming to many, Hitmaka assured the listeners that X’s behavior didn’t faze him. When asked why, this is what he said,

“This is DMX! He’s a dog, n*gga! What are you talkin’ ’bout?!

It’s no secret that sometimes X was misunderstood. However,  DMX was who he was and never apologized for that.

DMX’s influence

There is no doubt that DMX was one of the most influential voices in hip-hop. As the 2019 issue of GQ notes,

“[As of 2019] he’s the only rapper to have his first five studio albums debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.”

That honor came earnest. No one before or after that could imitate X’s signature style. He was an original not only in his presentation but in his walk. One source notes,

“He delivered his lines with desperate aggression that propelled his debut album.”

And years later, he continued to move the masses with that signature growl.

The Multifaceted X (DMX)

DMX wasn’t just an artist with a rough-edged exterior that matched his image. He was a man who worked with every inch of his being to rise above his bitter roots soured with abuse and neglect. His life was the perfect exemplar of yin and yang, a life of shadow and light, suffering and pain. While on the one hand, he encountered record-breaking success, on the other, he dealt with a crippling addiction. Yet, the depth of his talent was undeniable. DMX was a rapper, actor, father, and above all, a believer.

Many have termed X as an enigma. Although often struggling with darkness, his eyes were always trained forward to the light. Some found the strength of his faith mindboggling, and others understood it to be genuine. Moreover, X  never made a pretense; the artist always took the time to bow his head in prayer, an open display of his belief.

He let the world know he was at times distressed but blessed.

100% Authentic DMX

In all his humanness and quest to become his best, he remained open and honest about his struggle with darkness and faith. GQ phrased it best, DMX’s life was a testament and a testimony,

“living proof that if he could make it through this, you could make it through whatever you have going on as well.”

Without a doubt, X’s life will forever be a light and inspiration. As X told People in 2021,

“I think part of growth and healing in the human experience is the ability to make peace or even find the good in the reconciliation of traumatic experiences of the past.”

He attempted to do that, share his gift, and live his life authentically. And for years to come, people like Hitmaka will continue to share what they knew of DMX and how he touched their lives because that is how unique X was.
