What’s Next for the Chaka Zulu Murder Case

It is the start of the new year, yet there is still no set date for the Chaka Zulu murder case that happened back in June of 2022.

The longtime manager of rapper Ludacris, Chaka Zulu, was involved in a triple shooting that occurred in a parking lot in Buckhead, Atlanta. Zulu is charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime, and battery.

The Dispute

On a Sunday night around 11:35 p.m. three men, including Zulu, are shot on account of some sort of argument. The shooting occurred outside 4B Apartment restaurant where eyewitnesses and surveillance footage show Zulu being jumped. A gang of four individuals repeatedly stomp, punch and kick Zulu on the ground leaving him defenseless.

As a result, there is one man killed, 23-year-old Artez Benton, while Zulu and the other unknown victim were transported to a local hospital.

Additionally, the Atlanta Police department confirm the surveillance footage showed vivid evidence of what occurred in this altercation.

Conversely, Chaka Zulu indeed turned himself in after recovery and bailed his bond the same day. He did claim his actions are purely due to self-defense and is confident in beating his charges.

Attorney Gabe Banks of Banks Weaver LLC stated to AllHipHop, “The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is still investigating this matter. At this time, there are no upcoming court dates. He needs [the love]. More importantly, he appreciates it.”

Long Time Co-Founder

Zulu along with his brother Jeff Dixon and Ludacris, 1998, all co-founded Disturbing The Peace Records. This label featured popular artists like Chingy, Shawnna, Bobby V, Lil Scrappy, and more.

Meanwhile, Ludacris has been busy working hard toward his degree, which he achieved Wednesday. Graduating as the class of 2022 from Georgia State University, Luda is presented with an honorary Bachelor’s Degree.

As Luda celebrates his milestone Zulu awaits what is next for him in this murder case. Zulu’s legal counsel posted to his Instagram one last statement.

Trouble’s ‘Female Friend’ Speaks Out, Stating She Is ‘Traumatized’

Famed Atlanta rapper Trouble was gunned down during a stay at a “female friend’s” house. On June 5, this fatal event cemented the loss of the rapper’s life and all over senseless negligence of human decency.

It’s now clear that the nature of the incident was due to domestic violence. The suspect, Jamichael Jones, reportedly punched his ex-girlfriend in her face and proceeded to shoot Skoob once in his chest.

This friend has emerged with a note to her once silenced Instagram. Ultimately, her problem is the media’s lack of condolences that seem to come to her at this time. She barely gives insight into the incident, but she expressed how she’s “traumatized.” Fans are indifferent to her approach and even her need to address anyone’s opinion of her for that matter.

Details of the attack continue to formulate and take over the internet. Jones gave himself up to Clayton County authorities days after a warrant was issued for his arrest. 11Alive News captured these moments during his submissive arrest. “His mother was a huge resource in helping us apprehend him,” a Sherriff’s deputy said in a press release.

Trouble’s Lover Scorned

Trouble’s supposed girlfriend, Alexis Shalae, also plastered a message on social media following the tragic news of his passing. In her heartfelt delivery on IG, she shared how Trouble “was just at the wrong place wrong time.”

Death and rappers seem to be two words that remain a trending pair. While many fans mourn the death of these pronounced figures, family and friends are amongst those affected the most. Presumably the narratives of a cheating scandal brew amid newly surfaced information. It remains evident that acts of a jealous lover have claimed another life.

DMV Rapper ‘Goonew’ Shot and Killed

Markelle Antonio Morrow, aka Goonew, was killed in Prince George’s County, MD, District Heights.  He is from this area, born a few blocks from where he was murdered.  On Friday, March 18th shortly before 6PM, Goonew was shot in the back right after giving up his jewelry and watch.  He was reportedly on his way to give his sister a birthday gift.

RIP Goonew

Prince George’s County Police Department announced Goonew’s death and are looking for suspects.  He was pronounced dead a few hours after being in the hospital.  The reward for any information leading to conviction is up to $25,000.  Around 2017 is when Goonew became popular as he released his first mixtape, ‘Certified Goon’.  After releasing a few mixtapes, in 2019 he released his debut album, ‘Still Servin’.  Known mostly for his whispery raps and songs with Lil Dude, who is also from the DMV area.  They put out two mixtapes together, ‘Homicide Boyz’ and ‘Homicide Boyz 2’. Their hit song featuring Lil Yachty, Homicide Boat was on ‘Homicide Boyz’ in 2018.  They both got the attention of Hoodrich Pablo Juan and signed to him for a period.   Goonew was known to rap under different names such as Hoodrich Goonew and Big Wizzle.

Another Young Dead Rapper

WUSA9 interviewed Goonew’s mother, Patrice Parker Morrow as she couldn’t believe what she heard when it happened.

“I heard…screaming that Markelle got shot down the street and my daughter ran straight out and I couldn’t move I this was shaking really bad…”

This wasn’t the first attempt on his life.  Back in 2019, he posted a tweet stating he was almost dead with a picture of him in the hospital.  Who knows if these occurrences are connected?

This marks a long list of rappers who keep dying left and right.  Another rapper, Baby Cino, from Miami was also killed at the age of 20 last week.  Lil Devin, a rapper out of Indiana was killed while celebrating with family earlier this year.  Wavy Navy Pooh, out of Miami as well, just signed to Quality Control Music and was murdered in a drive by shooting.  Pop Smoke affiliate, TDott Woo, was murdered last month right after signing a record deal.  Snootie Wild was also murdered last month after being shot in Houston.
