The Veteran’s Perspective: Ice-T’s Message To The Next Generation Of Rappers Regarding Podcasts

In modern media, podcasts have become a popular platform for discussions and interviews. However, not everyone is a fan, and one such individual is the iconic Ice-T.

Known for his remarkable career as a rapper turned star of the hit show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” Ice-T recently took to Twitter to give advice and express his reservations about podcasts in today’s landscape.

The legendary “New Jack Hustler” artist issued a cautionary message to young rappers. Ice-T gave advice for them to be careful when appearing on podcast shows.

Furthermore, the artist says there is a risk of having their words twisted and manipulated, resulting in an entirely different representation of their intended message.

In a tweet shared on Friday (May 12), the rapper delivered a public service announcement to fellow artists, emphasizing the potential pitfalls of interviews, particularly podcasting. “Artist Public Service: Doing Interviews can be risky if you Don’t know what you’re doing,” Ice-T said. “They will talk to you for hours, hoping you say one thing they can TWIST and hype up for clicks. Unfortunately, most podcasts have now DEVOLVED to this BS. Just saying.”

Ice-T’s advice sheds light on the challenges many musicians face when navigating the world of interviews. Moreover, Ice-T urges other artists to be cautious and self-aware to protect their intentions and maintain their authentic voices.

While podcasts have undoubtedly emerged as a powerful platform for open dialogue, Ice-T’s advice serves as a reminder to approach them with discernment. Additionally, Ice-T’s advice emphasizes the importance of preserving one’s true essence amid a rapidly evolving media landscape.

A Star-Studded Event: Fellow Hip Hop Pioneer And Esteemed Guests

Ice-T’s advice has garnered much respect from his peers and younger generations. With a legacy spanning decades, it is no surprise that Ice-T was also honored with his very own star on the renowned Hollywood Walk of Fame in February.

But here’s the exciting part: Ice-T wasn’t alone at this major event. Joining him was Chuck D, a fellow pioneer of Hip Hop. The famous “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” co-star, Mariska Hargitay, and the creator of “Law & Order,” Dick Wolf, also served as guest speakers.

Can you imagine the star-studded atmosphere and the captivating speeches delivered at the event? Thankfully, Ice-T refrained from bringing his famous “Cop Killer” rap to the occasion.

Recognition On The Walk Of Fame

Despite his stellar performance in the cop drama, Ice-T’s groundbreaking music career has earned him a special spot on the Walk of Fame. Recognized in the Recording category, the Walk of Fame star testifies to the artist’s immense contributions to the music world.

“Ice-T is a cultural icon and a success both in the music and television industries. His fans will be very excited to see their favorite performer placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a statement. “Ice’s Star will be situated near the stars of music greats such as Thelonius Monk, Dizzy Gillespie, Luciano Pavarotti, Mama Cass Elliott, John Denver, and Herbie Hancock, to name a few.”

Ice-T’s reaction to the news has been a delightful surprise as the artist has expressed his amusement at the irony of receiving such an honor in the neighborhood where he once faced numerous legal challenges. Reflecting on his past, he took to Twitter and mused:

Isn’t it fascinating how life can come full circle?

In a glorious addition to the star-studded legacy, Ice-T’s induction marks the inclusion of the 2,747th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Sharing this distinction with only ten other esteemed Hip Hop icons like Snoop Dogg50 CentLL COOL JDiddyIce CubePharrellMissy Elliott, and Queen Latifah, Ice-T solidifies his position as an influential figure in the genre.

Just imagine the artist’s honor and pride walking alongside these legendary names. Can you grasp the magnitude of Ice-T’s achievement? It’s like the feeling of putting on a graduation cap and gown to join the ranks of the graduating class, feeling the weight of all the time and energy it took to reach that point of achievement.

From Tracy Lauren Marrow To Ice-T: The Birth Of An Iconic Stage Name

Ice-T, the iconic rapper and actor, rose to prominence in the 1980s with his groundbreaking contributions to Hip-Hop. Born Tracy Lauren Marrow on February 16, 1958, in Newark, New Jersey, he later adopted the stage name Ice-T to reflect his cool demeanor and street credibility.

Furthermore, Ice-T faced adversity from an early age, but he channeled his experiences to fuel his artistic expression. As a teenager, Ice-T immersed himself in the vibrant Hip-Hop culture of South Central Los Angeles, where he honed his skills as a rapper and lyricist.

In 1987, however, Ice-T achieved a breakthrough in his music career by releasing his groundbreaking album titled “Rhyme Pays.” One of the notable aspects of “Rhyme Pays” was Ice-T’s bold and honest approach to storytelling. He fearlessly dived into controversial topics such as crime, gang culture, and social issues prevalent in the communities he grew up in. By addressing these subjects with brutal honesty, Ice-T provided a voice for the unheard and shed light on the harsh realities of inner-city life.

The song “Cop Killer,” released in 1992 by Body Count, a band led by Ice-T, caused significant controversy and had a huge impact. This thought-provoking single sparked widespread discussions nationwide regarding the boundaries of freedom of speech and artistic creativity. Nowadays, if someone wishes to listen to the renowned and provocative “Cop Killer,” their options are limited to purchasing a second-hand 1992 CD from platforms like eBay or accessing the song legally through YouTube.

Transition Into Acting

Ice-T’s artistic pursuits extend beyond music. Additionally, he seamlessly transitioned into acting and made a lasting effect on both the big and small screens.

One of his most notable roles came in the crime drama series “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” where he portrayed the beloved character Detective Odafin “Fin” Tutuola for over two decades. During this time, he captivated audiences with his gritty and authentic portrayal, solidifying his status as a versatile performer.

Literary Pursuits: Ice-T’s Entrance Into Book Publishing

Beyond his creative endeavors, Ice-T has also ventured into entrepreneurship. In addition to his remarkable achievements in music and acting, he established his own record label, Rhyme $yndicate Records, further confirming his position as a multifaceted artist.

However, his entrepreneurial pursuits didn’t stop there. Ice-T successfully expanded his horizons by venturing into film production and book publishing.

In 2011, Ice-T released his autobiography titled “Ice: A Memoir of Gangster Life and Redemption from South Central to Hollywood.” This captivating book is a testament to the artist’s multifaceted talent and offers readers a unique and compelling perspective on his life. Through its pages, Ice-T provides a raw and honest account of his journey, chronicling his experiences growing up in South Central Los Angeles and immersing himself in the challenging environment of gang culture.

In addition, the book offers a unique perspective on his rise to stardom and sheds light on the social and cultural issues prevalent in urban communities. “Ice: A Memoir” received critical acclaim for its compelling storytelling and the authenticity with which Ice-T shared his life experiences.

The 1992 single “Cop Killer” made by Ice-T together with his heavy metal band, Body Count is still causing surprise to every new listener. but why?

Well, such a bold song shows the listener a fantasy about revenge against police brutality in the most direct and strongest way possible.

The controversy reached such a level that CLEAT (Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas) and police organizations joined together in protest against the band and the banning of the track and the album from stores.

Some time later and after making a deal with Warner Bros., Ice-T agreed to remove the song from the album.

Until this day, the song remains unavailable on legal streaming platforms, except YouTube.

Ice-T Backs Mike Tyson Behind Recent Plane Incident

The West Coast Rap Pioneer and Legend Ice-T shared his opinion on Mike Tyson’s recent plane-punching incident. The artist expressed an understanding of Tyson’s frustration. The artist also thinks people ought to watch what they say to each other.

“The problem is nowadays, MFs think they WON’T get punched in the face.”

Iron Mike Handles Disrespectful Passenger

On Thursday afternoon, while on a commercial airline, an altercation between boxing legend and hall-of-fame member the ‘Iron Mike,’ Mike Tyson, and a passenger occurred. The passenger was sitting behind the legendary boxer when he began to taunt and throw a bottle at Tyson.

For that reason, it ultimately resulted in Mike repeatedly punching the man in the face. Someone caught the incident on camera and presented the assaulted heckler to the public. It was also violent. However, Mike expressed his concern for people disrespecting people numerous times, saying:

“So media made y’all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it.”

Furthermore, Ice-T’s responses to the incident affirmed Tyson’s view about that perspective.

Ice-T’s Defending Remarks

Rap legend, Ice-T, is no stranger to speaking his mind. He is one of the founding fathers of Gangsta rap. With his background in the music industry and origin, Ice-T informed the public they caught themselves feeling like they won’t be hurt. He also notes that some people forget that they are not in the person’s safe zone when being disrespectful.

“Yep….. But that’s the Fn TRUTH! Clown-ass forgot he was NOT behind his keyboard..”

Nonetheless, he is empathetic about how Mike feels. Ice-T said, “If Dumbfucks said, “The type of Shit they say to me on HERE Face to Face….. I know I’d be in prison.”

The two respective legends don’t tolerate disrespect and consider handling it accordingly.

Ice-T Warns Rappers of Potential West Coast Dangers

Rapper Ice-T has a message for rappers who may be heading to the West Coast for this year’s Super Bowl. The rapper is a long-time resident of Los Angeles. He has been outspoken on an array of issues affecting residents of the city. In the past, he’s talked about police brutality and protests. These issues have a complicated history in L.A., but the focus this time is on gang violence. It was no surprise when he took to Twitter  Saturday to express his concerns. Ice-T claims there are over 50 thousand active gang members in L.A. With the deaths of  rappers like Nipsey Hussle and most recently, Drakeo The Ruler, there is a sufficient reason to worry.

Recent Gang Activity and Danger in Los Angeles

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the city has seen an increase in theft. Motor theft increased by nearly 14%.  Also, officer-involved shootings rose 142.8% and homicides rose 38.8% in 2021. A significant number of homicides had to do with homelessness and the lack of mental health resources. However, gang activity is behind a lot of the homicides. According to LAPD crime statistics, the surge in murders started after the COVID-19 pandemic began. Murders are the highest they’ve been in a decade.

Earlier this year, officers arrested seven suspected gang members for a series of deaths and attempted murders. Two suspects are still on the run. Though this incident is upsetting on its own, it is just one of many incidents sparking alarm in the area. Ice-T himself, who has had past ties to gang activity, was right to warn followers. This is an issue outside the city as well.

Los Angeles isn’t the only major city experiencing a spike in crime. However, it’s important to highlight the city this weekend because of the influx of out-of-town visitors. In order to help combat potential issues, places like Santa Monica prepared safety guidelines ahead of time. The goal is to keep those who might visit, safe. No major threats are on the horizon. Law enforcement will increase surveillance to air on the side of caution. They can’t see everything, so Ice-T’s post is a warning to keeping up with personal safety.

Ice-T is no stranger to the entertainment industry. By now, he is undoubtedly a fixture and household name. However, Ice-T’s beginnings are less than humble. #FMTrends: Shug Knight: Tupac Shakur Lives

Shug Knight: Tupac Shakur Lives

Tupac Shakur is alive. Well, that’s what Suge Knight was saying without actually saying it when he spoke with respected journalist Soledad O’Brien, and former gangster rapper turned actor, Ice-T.

Courtesy of FOX: Soledad O'Brien, Ice-T

The conversation took place in the investigative documentary Who Shot Biggie & Tupac which aired on FOX Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017. Suge Knight shared his unproven theory with O’Brien and Ice-T in a phone call which took place from the confines of Los Angeles County Jail.

Courtesy of FOX: Who Shot Biggie & Tupac

“When Pac died — I mean, if he really did, you know,” Knight recalled from the 1996 Las Vegas shooting. “When I left that hospital, me and Pac was laughing and joking. So I don’t see how somebody can turn from doing well to doing bad. I’m gonna tell you that with Pac, you never know.”

Well, I’m no doctor, but I do watch a lot of Grey’s Anatomy. And one thing I know for sure is that “things” can turn from good to “bad” in a heartbeat. In Tupac’s case, I believe things turned bad.

As I watched the documentary, I shared my questions, comments, and concerns on Twitter. Like, why didn’t Suge drive off the moment he heard shots fired? Then I thought to myself, was Suge in on the hit the entire time?

The documentary stopped that theory dead in its tracks with forensics, and sources reenacting the event.

To be honest, I didn’t learn anything new from the documentary. Let me take that back. I learned several things.

Tupac shot himself by “accident.”

I also learned that a Nina is short for a 9mm gun. Thanks for asking, Soledad. Thanks for clarifying, Ice-T.

TC’s Views

[In my questionable William Shakespeare voice]

Tupac Shakur! Alive or not alive? Why is this even a question?

Suge, if you know where Tupac is, set him free.

Tupac, if you’re reading this please send an S.O.S. through the Ghost Whisperer.

Sincerely,

@TCsViews
