Pharrell and JAY-Z’s new song ‘Entreprenuer’ is about racial inequality in the US.

Entreprenuer is about racial inequality

Hip-hop legends Pharrell Williams and JAY-Z released a song this Friday called Entreprenuer that touches on the racial inequality Black people are faced within the United States of America.

Williams, 47, made the announcement Thursday on instagram as he spoke with TIME as part of his new cover package with the magazine called “The New American Revolution”. The In My Mind producer/songwriter helped with curating interviews from several names including Naomi Osaka, Tyler, the CreatorAngela Davis, Geoffrey Canada and many more share personal stories of how racial inequality has shaped them. Many Black people throughout history have dealt with systemic inequalities in culture, policy, sports, medicine, and education.

The So Ambitious producer went over some lines to help explain the theme of ‘Entreprenuer’. Williams says “In this position with no choice/ The system imprison young Black boys/ Distract with white noise.”

Mission Statement

“The intention of the song was all about how tough it is to be an entreprenuer in our country to begin”, the VA native tells TIME. “Especially as someone of color, there is a lot systemic disadvantages and purposeful blockages. How can you get a fire started, or even the hope of an ember to start a fire, when you’re starting at disadvantages with regards to health care, education, and representation?”

Hov and Skateboard P

Pharrell sees economic empowerment as a way to improve African American communities across the board. “When you have successful bee-hive type communities where you circulate money within your community, it makes a huge difference,”he explains. “They keep saying the American Dream is about the house and the picket fence, the wife and two kids. Come on- let’s be honest. It’s always boiled down to money and opportunity.”

Support Black Businesses

JAY-Z’s verse places an emphasis on the importance of supporting Black businesses and starting your own business ventures. The Legacy MC raps: “Black Twitter, what’s that? When Jack gets paid, do you?,” referencing Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, before adding, “For every one Gucci, support 2 FUBU’s.”

More money and more opportunity for everyone

“The song is trying to communicate that if we stick together, treat each other better and welcome each other, there’s more money and more opportunity for everyone,” Williams states.

“America’s past and present are racist. We deserve a Black future.” – Pharrell Williams

“Serial entreprenuer, we own stop sitting ’round waiting for folks to throw you a bone. If you can’t buy the building at least stock the shelf, then keep on stacking till you stocking for yourself, uh” – JAY-Z

The song ‘Entreprenuer’ keeps the dialogue of racial inequality at the forefront of consciousness the Black community.  Final freedom is the key to social and economic mobility.

JAY-Z Cleared A 12 Million Dollar Debt To Def Jam For DMX

During a recent interview with “The Breakfast Club“, Ruff Ryders co-founders Chivon, Waah, and Dee Dean revealed how JAY-Z allowed DMX to leave Def Jam without having to pay a 12 million dollar debt owed to the company.

JAY-Z cleared debt for DMX and Ruff Ryders

“What had happened was JAY-Z called DMX and told him, ‘The inmates have took over the prison.'”Dean said. “And when your man JAY-Z got in position, X felt that he didn’t honor him in a proper way and hold weight like he was supposed to.” They then added that their egos got the best of them once JAY became president of Def Jam in 2004, which led to their beef.

“The good part about Def Jam — and I gotta give it to Hov — X was in debt over there. He probably owed about $12 million,” Dean revealed. When DMX left Def Jam for Sony, he said that Hov “released him and wiped off the debt clean and let him go. He didn’t have to pay nothing back.”

We can add this to the list of several good deeds done by the MaNyFacedGod rapper. Never change, JAY-Z.
