J-Hope And J. Cole Score Billboard No. 1 With “On The Street”

“All hail the mighty survivor of hell,” raps J. Cole in “On the Street,” a collaboration with rapper J-Hope of BTS. In early March, it was announced J. Cole and J-Hope would be collaborating, causing commotion amongst fans of both artists.

Since its release, “On the Street” has steadily climbed the Billboard charts. The track earned the no. 1 spot on the R&B/ Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and the Rap Digital Songs Sales charts. Hope is now the second member of BTS to earn two no. 1 song on the latter chart, tying with bandmate and fellow rapper Suga. According to Billboard, this also marks J. Cole’s best charting song since 2021.

The song is a sentimental reminder of why both artists picked this genre. J-Hope laments that it’s the fans that have carried him to the top. In his verse, Cole explains that his talent is god-given and raps a vaguely existential verse about his future and whether or not he will continue rapping. The track ends with both artists harmonizing, and the video features a sweet moment between the two, meeting up on a rooftop in New York, overlooking the Manhattan Bridge.

An Idol Meets His Muse

As a rapper and K-pop idol in one of the biggest bands in the world, BTS, J-Hope is no stranger to praise or the Billboard charts for that matter. However, Hope saw this as an opportunity to pay homage to perhaps his greatest hip-hop influence, J. Cole. The pair met backstage when Hope headlined Lollapalooza. After J-Hope’s set, In a behind-the-scenes look at the music video, J-Hope expressed his feelings about making music with someone he respects so much.

“When I started listening to music, the first artist I listened to was J. Cole. Being able to work with J. Cole after 10 years as a fan, I’m so happy. It’s just all new, and I still can’t believe it.”

And the feeling is apparently mutual, as J. Cole was the one to reach out to the rapper after their initial meeting. Cole described working with Hope as a “blessing,” pleasing fans of both artists.

It’s A Bittersweet Moment For Army

For those who may not know, South Korean men must serve mandatory military time. This is J-Hope’s, or Hobi as fans lovingly call him, way of saying goodbye for now before he returns as part of the pop sensation BTS in 2025.

Last year, the group’s oldest member Kim Seokjin began his service despite fans, or the army, half-joking about taking his place. And it’s likely when the other members go, they will be met with similar jokes, tears, and well wishes. Getting another Billboard hit for both artists not only further cements them as rap stars but is a full-circle moment for these artists to come together after years of mutual admiration.

DaBaby Speaks Out After 911 Call Regarding Home Intruder Shooting Surfaces

Award-winning rapper DaBaby spoke out about a 911 call regarding a recent home intruder shooting at his North Carolina mansion.

He took to Instagram on Apr. 14 to air out his grievances about the media posting the call.

“Media telling n****s business [are] the main reason n****s get fye put on em,” he wrote while sharing The Shade Room’s post about the recent incident.

According to news reports, DaBaby, whose real name is Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, was at his Charlotte home when an unidentified man trespassed on his property. When police arrived at the scene, they found the individual suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. First responders then transported him to a medical facility for treatment.

911 Calls From DaBaby’s Residence Has Surfaced

911 audio revealed that someone at Kirk’s location contacted authorities after the intruder was shot. The trespasser was allegedly in agony as he was wailing in the background.

“I shot him in his leg…because he’s trespassing on my property, calling me by my name,” the caller said.

When the dispatcher asked him if the shooting victim was alert, he responded, “Do you not hear this man, bro?”

He then advised the dispatcher not to repeat the same question again before the person over the phone asked him to secure his alleged weapon. The caller responded by saying the weapon was secure, but he refused to put it down because the trespasser could still be a threat, and others may have appeared.

DaBaby Not Officially Accused Of Shooting Trespasser

Police have not accused Kirk of the shooting and have reportedly been investigating the entire incident. They also confirmed that the home introducer was not a guest at the Troutman residence.

“Just like any other property owner, they’re entitled to their right to secure their property and to make sure [no one] comes in,” Troutman Police Chief Josh Watson said.

A concrete wall and security gate reportedly surrounded Kirk’s mansion. There were also warning signs saying “No Trespassing” and “We have guns and shovels” around it.

Reuben Vincent Signs With Roc Nation

Jay-Z recently signed North Carolina rapper and producer Reuben Vincent to his Roc Nation roster.

The label confirmed the signing on Saturday through an announcement on Instagram. In the video, Vincent, the 9th Wonder protégé, shares that he dreamed about signing with Jay when he was a child.

“I remember being a kid like five or ten years old watching Fade to Black on TV seeing Hov sell out Madison Square Garden. And then, man, I remember getting on the bus, and my friends asked me, ‘If you could ever sign a deal with somebody, who would it be?’ And my first answer was Roc Nation.”

After joining Roc Nation, Vincent took to Twitter to share the news.

“Signing to Roc Nation is a dream come true…I’m honestly still soaking it all in. 4ever grateful and thankful. Now it’s time to do what I said I set out to do in this game. Hov, you got you one.”

As expected, many fans congratulated the rapper on his signing.

Reuben Vincent and Jamla Records

Vincent released two projects with 9th Wonder’s Jamla Records. Myers Park dropped in 2017, and Boy Meets Worlds came out in 2020.

The rapper shares a few similarities to another 9th Wonder mentee, Rapsody. The two are North Carolina natives who signed with Roc Nation through Jamla Records.

In 2020, DJBooth interviewed Vincent, and he spoke about his joining with 9th Wonder when he was thirteen years old.

“I connected with 9th in 2014, actually. I put out a mixtape called IDOL.ESCENT under the name E$AU, which is my middle name. I recorded it in my room, in my closet. I remember somebody had tweeted 9th,” he said.
