Snoop Dogg Requests Removal From Drakeo The Ruler Negligence Lawsuit

According to recent Rolling Stone reports, Snoop Dogg requested to be dropped from a pending negligence lawsuit. The lawsuit revolves around the fatal stabbing of rapper Drakeo The Ruler in December of last year. Drakeo, The Ruler, died due to a stabbing at the Once Upon A Time in L.A. music festival. Currently, no arrests have been made in the case. However, the late rapper’s brother, obviously incensed by the injustice, took to litigation.

Background to the Case

Drakeo The Ruler’s brother, Devante Caldwell, filed the lawsuit last February. Caldwell’s lawsuit claims that promoters and venue staff allowed the gang members purported to have killed Drakeo inside. Alongside this, he alleges severe emotional and physical damage. However, several event staff are now fighting to be removed from the lawsuit. The attorney representing Snoop Dogg’s LLC, as well as Bobby Dee Presents, have officially filed with a Las Angeles judge overseeing the case to remove his clients. The attorney wants assurance that his clients will remain “off the hook” for punitive damages.

It remains to be seen what the result of the lawsuit will be. In all likelihood, Snoop Dogg will not face any punitive punishments for Drakeo The Ruler’s murder. However, the legal battles stemming from the unfortunate murder don’t end with Caldwell. Tiana Purtue filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of her and Drakeo The Ruler’s five-year-old son. This lawsuit names many high-profile promoters. Bobby Dee Presents, C3 Presents, Jeff Shuman, and even the venue owners Major League Soccer team Las Angeles Football Club.

The lawsuit aims for upwards of sixty million dollars in economic and emotional damages. It seems likely that Snoop Dogg’s attorney will also request removal from this suit. Additionally, this lawsuit directly cites the tragedy at Astroworld, reminding many that venue safety concerns many.

What To Expect

Following recent tragedies like Astroworld and Drakeo’s murder, concert safety became a topic on many people’s minds. Many now demand that those responsible for concert safety should face penalties when tragedy strikes. The Drakeo lawsuits will become major determining cases for how these events will be handled in the future. This story is still ongoing stay tuned for future updates.

Drakeo The Ruler’s Family Lawsuit Reaches $60 Million

Drakeo The Ruler’s family has officially filed a lawsuit against Live Nation with California’s superior court. They are now seeking $60 million in damages. The lawsuit was made on behalf of Drakeo’s five-year-old son, Caiden Caldwell, through his mother Tianna Purtue. C3 Presents, Bobby Dee Presents, Jeff Shuman and Los Angeles Football Club are also named in the lawsuit as the defendants. $25 million in “non-economic” damages, $25 million for financial support and $10 million for his father’s suffering prior to his death.

Born Darrell Caldwell, he had been fatally stabbed in the neck at the Once Upon a Time Festival in Los Angeles, CA. The family’s attorney James Bryant spoke about his wrongful death, blaming the promoters’ security protocols. “His life was taken way too soon,” Bryant said. “This should never have never happened if those promotors had actually had the proper security protocols. This was a preventable death.” No arrests have been made by LAPD but the investigation continues.

Blood Gang

It is also noted the blood gang may have had a part in Drakeo’s death. According to Hip-Hop DX,  YG and Drakeo’s issues with the Bloods gang is a possible motive for the murder. The attackers were allegedly wearing all-red and ski masks while backstage during the deadly fight. His team believes the Bloods may have targeted him because Drakeo was involved in a murder of a Bloods gang member in 2016. He was acquitted of those charges.

“Mr. Caldwell and artist and alleged member of the Bloods gang, YG had an ongoing public feud,” the lawsuit reads. “While there is no evidence to indicate that YG had anything to do with the events that would lead to Mr. Caldwell’s murder … it was clear that other members of the Bloods gang may take issue with him … as it was widely known that members of the Bloods gang were actively targeting Mr. Caldwell following his acquittal.”

A rep for YG has not yet commented.

Drakeo The Ruler’s Mother Wants Justice For His Death

Drakeo The Ruler’s death was the result of a sudden stabbing at the Once Upon A Time festival in L.A. Darrylene Corniel, Drakeo’s mother is out for justice. According to an interview with Rolling Stone, she is planning to take legal action. She shared, “We plan to sue. This happened backstage at an event. Someone has to be held accountable.”

At her Los Angeles residence, Corniel gave a chilling rundown of what she was told took place that night.

Drakeo was scheduled to perform and was accompanied by a small group, including his brother Ralfy the Plug. A reported influx “like 40 to 60 people” arrived around the same time as Compton rapper YG and “swamped” her son and his crew.

According to Corniel, “Everything just happened so quickly,” she said. “They started trying to jump them.” She said Devonte (Ralphy The Plug) tried to protect his brother: “He was trying to fight, but when he turned around, he could see his brother with blood gushing out of him.”

Although she credits pride as playing a part in this tragedy, she incites the failure of security to do their jobs.  “It is such a shame how much jealousy and envy can make people stoop to such low tactics to try to destroy another individual because of fame and progress,” she said. “When you start getting up there, people start getting intimidated. So, I believe, once his platform started going higher, people started getting upset.”

A mothers love

It is unfortunate that a parent has to bury their child. The “senseless act of violence is a reoccurring thing in hip hop. Just so, it leaves the family of the victims to pick up the pieces. She shares the aftermath of seeing her son saying,

“He was hit in his neck. I saw him when I went to the hospital. They said it’s a homicide, so I wasn’t able to hug him or kiss him or anything like that. I had to look at him through a window.”

“I will not rest until justice is served.”

Once Upon A Time…

The Once Upon A Time In L.A. festival was to be a night celebrating music. The festival featured the finest the industry had to offer. With a heavy lineup consisting of acts by 50 Cent, Al Green, YG, Ice Cube, and The Game, entertainment was all but guaranteed. Live Nation hosted the concert at the Banc of California Stadium in L.A.’s Exposition Park. In a statement, Live Nation said the fatal incident happened “in a roadway backstage” and that it caused the festival to end an hour early.

What’s more, Live Nation is amid a sea of lawsuits from Astroworld victims. Fox recently shared that the entertainment company has a lawsuit ridden history. As a result, Live Nations stock plummeted following the tragic Astroworld festival.

Music festival safety is now a top priority for organizers, and a worry for the public. With footage of the incident rotating, it is clear that security competency is a reoccurring issue. While many speculate YG’s involvement, it has not yet been confirmed.

A Little History of Drakeo the Ruler

Drakeo the Ruler was a staple in the LA rap scene. He dropped his debut album, The Truth Hurts, in February. Drakeo has released 11 projects since he came out in 2015. His unique slang terms, such as “flu flamming,” made the artist memorable. So much so that Drake hopped on one of his popular records, “Talk to Me.” The song appears on The Truth Hurts, which gives him mainstream recognition.

Drakeo the Ruler battled severe legal issues. According to Los Angeles Times, he was on trial connected to a young man’s death in 2016. He faced a potential life sentence for first-degree murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. Eventually, the court acquitted Drakeo of felony murder and attempted murder charges. The authorities retired the artist on conspiracy charges related to the killing. Then, he accepted a plea deal and left the court in November 2020.

Despite this hardship, he continued to press on and became the cult-favorite west coast rapper he is today.
