Is There Anything Alexandra Shipp Can’t Achieve?

Alexandra Shipp is no one-trick pony – she’s a triple threat, boasting accomplishments as an actress, singer, and songwriter.

In Lin-Manuel Miranda’s directorial film debut, “tick, tick… BOOM!”, a cinematic gem based on the autobiographical Off-Broadway masterpiece by the late Jonathan Larson, Shipp showcased her incredible versatility.

She didn’t just play ‘Susan,’ Jonathan Larson’s long-term girlfriend; she embarked on a journey of self-discovery herself! Alexandra wowed us with brilliant solo performances and incredible duets alongside Andrew Garfield. The result? Rave reviews and awards buzz that left critics whizzing with excitement.

But if you thought she was done, think again. Catch her right now in the summer’s biggest blockbuster, Greta Gerwig’s “BARBIE” for Warner Bros, starring alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. And if that’s not enough to leave you in awe, she’s currently in production for Will Gluck’s untitled romantic comedy, featuring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell. Is there anything Shipp can’t conquer?

Shipp’s Filmography Explored

In 2021, she released her debut musical masterpiece, the catchy “Dirty Long Sleeve Shirt.” But that’s just the beginning of the story!

What else is on the horizon, you ask? Kyra Sedgwick’s cosmic adventure “Space Oddity,” which intrigued audiences at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival.

And David Sandberg’s riveting “Kung Fury II,” where Shipp teams up with Michael Fassbender.

Notable Film Credits

That’s not all she’s earned. In 2018, the red carpet rolled out to honor Alexandra at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards with the prestigious “Face of the Future Award®.” Why? For her extraordinary acting chops and her embodiment of timeless style and grace.

Oh, and let’s not forget the cherry on top – that same year, she snagged a “Rising Star Award” at the Napa Valley Film Festival.

The Princess Of R&B’s Bold Move To Los Angeles

Hailing from the sunny streets of Phoenix, Arizona, the Princess of R&B went on a thrilling adventure when she packed her bags and headed to the City of Angels at the tender age of 17.

From a small-town girl to a rising star, Shipp burst onto the silver screen with her debut appearance in the Fox sensation, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.”

In television, she enchanted audiences with her portrayal of KT Rush on Nickelodeon’s series, “House of Anubis.” Isn’t it fascinating how this Arizona native made her way to Hollywood and left her mark on both the big and small screens? All it took was a little squeak, a lot of courage, and a lot of hairspray!

Jason Derulo Lights Up the NFL TikTok Tailgate

Derulo has just unveiled something seriously cool – his very own graphic novel, “Jason Derulo’s UZO,” brought to life by Z2 Comics, and it’s based on a TikTok character he created himself.

With his TikTok videos consistently raking in over 10 million views per post, you’ve got to wonder, how has this platform transformed his fan interaction?

Derulo is not just any TikTok star; he’s up there with the big shots. He’s the 4th most followed guy on the platform and the 11th biggest account overall. His TikTok presence is growing faster than you can say “viral!” He’s got 58.2 million followers from all around the globe and more than 1.2 billion likes!

But here’s the real head-scratcher: How Jason reclaim his throne as TikTok king? Well, last year, he dropped the summer sensation “Slidin'” and even challenged fans to dance to his own electric slide rendition on TikTok.

Watch “Slidin” above.

And speaking of fun, this guy knows how to party. To celebrate the single, Derulo threw a wildly extravagant “Slidin’” Weekend in Miami with some of his closest creator pals. He had private jets, massive mansions, sexy yacht parties, hibachi dinners, clubbing, and more!

In addition, the pop singer lit up the stage at the NFL TikTok Tailgate during the Super Bowl LVII pregame special! He cranked out many chart-toppers. But you won’t believe this – he even treated us to the first live performance of his fresh single, “Saturday / Sunday,” featuring David Guetta. Did you catch that epic show? It was one for the books!

Lil Uzi Vert, Lauryn Hill, And More: The Roots Picnic Line-up!

The Roots Picnic line-up has just released, and it’ll be epic! Lil Uzi Vert and Lauryn Hill are only a few talented performers to be featured. Busta Rhymes, GloRilla, The Roots, Black Thought, DJ Drama, Eve, and plenty more will perform at The Mann in Fairmount Park.

Lauryn Hill will celebrate the 25th anniversary of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” This grammy-winning album will be part of her set, exciting fans and sending them to the pre-sale. While tickets already went on sale, there’s still a chance to grab some before the show!

From Jun 2-4, fans can enjoy many types of performances. Comedian Dave Chapelle will perform that Friday at the Wells Fargo Center. The event also showcases a podcast stage. Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee, and DJ Akademics are just some of the big-name hosts in the Roots Picnic Line-up.

2023 Is The Roots Picnic Re-do

But the energy that surrounds the Roots Picnic isn’t all anticipation. Some fans hesitate to purchase tickets after the complaints about last year’s festival. Attendees shared their horror stories about dehydration, late performers, and bad sound design.

After the performance last year, one fan wrote: “Starved us, dehydrated us, every set was late, some were no-shows, and we couldn’t hear the major acts cause sound was messed up.”

Additionally, there are many complaints about the uncertainty of the acts. When fans pay these ticket prices, they want to make sure it’s worth it, but they’re not so sure. Many accounts from the 2022 Roots Picnic mention fans leaving before the performances even started due to lateness. With one of the most anticipated acts, Mary J Blige, failing to make an appearance until closer to midnight, it left a bad taste in their mouths.

The Roots Picnic Instagram has released a statement welcoming fans back, saying that they “can’t wait to be with their Picnic family again.” Despite all of the backlash on the 2022 performance, it seems that fans are still excited about the 2023 show!

‘Drink Champs’ Episode: Battle Rapper Math Hoffa Addresses The Difficulties He Has Faced On His Podcast, And Much More!

On January 27, award-winning hip-hop podcast ‘Drink Champs‘ hosted by N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, released an episode with battle rapper Justin Edwards – also known as Math Hoffa – discussing his new hip-hop podcast, ‘My Expert Opinion,’ hosted by Mr. Mecc, Sean Bigga, and Michael Smith-Baker, and many other topics.

A segment in the clip shows Hoffa praising N.O.R.E. as one of the early motivators and influencers. Math emphasizes that N.O.R.E’s belief in him has been essential to his success.”I was the first battle rapper on Drink Champs,” said Hoffa. “Just knowing that you had that type of belief in what I was doing, and you put me on a platform that you’ve had Nas, so many legends, that gave me a lot of energy to just go back in and keep it going.”

As N.O.R.E. discusses journalistic integrity and loyalty to peers, he suggests that being a journalist may prove more challenging than being a rapper. ‘Drink Champs’ has only been in existence for seven years, but the host has been active in the hip-hop industry for over 20 years. Compared to his career as a rapper, N.O.R.E. claims that he has endured a much more intense level of controversy on this podcast.

Math Hoffa Discusses Situations That Have Led To Backlash On His Show

As the video progresses, Math discusses the controversy over allowing multi-platinum record producer Self Service to share a story about someone slapping record producer Just Blaze in the face.

“My thing is an unchecked lie becomes the truth and I’m not saying anybody came on my platform lying,” said the battle rapper. “I’m saying if you feel like it went another way, you know, this is entertainment. The same way this person came to the shop and told their story, you can tell your story also.”

Additionally, Math addressed an episode with Jay Hood in which he made accusations regarding the Lox’s financial struggles, which Styles P publicly reacted to. “My issue is when people get upset, and then they ignore it like they are above it, when they’re not above it because you’re upset,” he said. “The bond they [The Lox] had with Jay Hood, I got caught in the mix of it.”

‘My Expert Opinion’ Host Believes 2pac’s Diss Song Directly Targets His Hometown

N.O.R.E., DJ EFN, and the other hosts of ‘My Expert Opinion’ played a drinking game. Playing that game, they began reminiscing about some of the greatest rap legends, including DMX, 2Pac, Biggie Smalls, etc. In addition, Sean Bigga believes that 2pac’s hit single Hit Em’ Up did not appear to be a diss track for Biggie. Upon hearing the song, Bigga thinks 2Pac was disparaging his hometown, New York.

“I know people spend he narrative that he (2Pac) was talking about Biggie directly, but me and my peers and the guys in the street, we didn’t hear it like that,” Bigga said. “We heard loud and clear, it felt like you’re coming directly at New York.”

Check out the whole ‘Drink Champs’ episode with Math Hoffa and the ‘My Expert Opinion’ team below:

What Is ‘My Expert Opinion?’

‘My Expert Opinion’ is a hip-hop podcast created by Math Hoffa where he expresses his opinion on music culture and asks other celebrity veterans for their views while sharing entertaining stories, good laughs, and insights.

Math Hoffa’s Biography

A native of Brooklyn, New York City, Math Hoffa was born on May 16, 1980, and is a rapper, podcast host, battle rapper, entertainer, and entrepreneur. With a height of 6’3″ and a weight of 220 pounds, Math has always possessed a robust stature, often used as intimidation in his battle rap career.

Before rapping with his crew of the same name, the battle rapper was a member of the street group “New York Bullies.” During his teenage years, he earned a living as a stick-up kid.

Hoffa began his battling career by competing with other MCs in the same bodegas where his idol, The Notorious B.I.G., famously battled. These street battles gave Math Hoffa enough credibility to feature in the independent film Rap Wars One. This was an important part of his upbringing and gave him the courage to pursue a career in rap. Aspiring to become the next big thing from his hometown, Hoffa sought to prove that his abilities were equal to those of any other MC. His drive to follow in the footsteps of Biggie helped set him on the path to becoming one of the most respected battle rappers in the game.

Spotify/Gimlet Podcast: Conviction Season 4 “The Conviction of Max B”

As the medium of modern media continues to evolve, it is fantastic to see how many different channels are available to tell stories. A new Spotify/Gimlet podcast, “The Conviction of Max B,” launched yesterday, also followed by a group release of all five episodes on Spotify. “Conviction” is Gimlet’s fourth investigative reporting season, featuring a brand new story each season.

The season opener of Conviction highlights Max B, a Harlem rapper who is just beginning to make his mark on the music scene. One night, he discovers a bag containing cash in an empty hotel room and takes advantage of the situation. The task would also not require much effort – go in, grab the money, and leave without hurting anyone. However, it does not proceed in this manner. Ultimately, chaos, kidnapping, and the death of a person are the results.

There are many interesting elements to the story, such as a rapper who risks everything to get a bag of cash, a robbery that went wrong, a chaotic trial, and a sentence that raises the question of who the justice system benefits and who it harms. Moreover, the podcast anthology series “Conviction” explores the intersection of crime and justice. Each story focuses on a different case and asks: For whom does the justice system work, and also for whom does it oppose? It seems bizarre that some people committed more severe crimes yet received shorter sentences. Seems unjust!

Each episode description of “The Conviction of Max B” follows.

All Of “The Conviction of Max B” Episodes:

●     Episode 1: Who’s 40 Grand Not Tempting To?

○     Episode Description: Max B is a well-known rapper in Harlem. That is, until one night changes everything.

●     Episode 2: Bring the Money

○     Episode Description: Max cooked up an easy score — in and out, no one gets hurt. But it doesn’t go down that way.

●     Episode 3: Never Wanna Go Back

○     Episode Description: As the police pursue Max B, time is running out.

●     Episode 4: Hell Hath No Fury

○     Episode Description: Max B goes to trial with his lawyer, Gerry Saluti, by his side. Within the courtroom, things are about to take a dark turn.

●     Episode 5: 75 in the Can

○     Episode Description: Max B’s new legal team attempts to secure his release from his 75-year sentence using a rarely effective strategy. But it is Max’s best chance unless he wishes to die in prison.

With a five-episode podcast, Brandon ‘Jinx’ Jenkins, a respected journalist, TV host, and award-winning podcast host takes listeners through the shambles that left a man dead on the night of the crime to Max B’s memorable trial in which 75 years in prison was imposed on him. This series aims to determine why someone with such potential and aptitude would risk everything in exchange for a bag of money.

Introduction To Host Brandon ‘Jinx’ Jenkins

Brandon ‘Jinx’ Jenkins grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. Besides being a highly respected journalist, TV host, podcast host, writer, photographer, DJ, and multi-media artist, Brandon worked for Translation ad agency, Decon creative agency, Mass Appeal Magazine, Complex Networks, and Revolt Network. In addition, he has served as a host on Revolt’s State Of The Culture and MSG Network’s Conference Room C.

French Montana Confirms Max B Will Be Coming Home Soon

In a tweet on Jan. 9, French Montana disclosed that Max B would be released from prison in April, as he promoted Max’s new “Lemonade” video from his latest mixtape, Coke Boys 6.

“MY BROTHER WAS FACING 75 YEARS,” Montana said. “HE TOLD ME TO TELL YALL HE ‘LL BE HOME IN APRIL, SILVER SURFER.”

A botched robbery in New Jersey in 2006 resulted in Max facing 75-year imprisonment for criminal charges such as armed robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and felony murder. However, it is a matter of good fortune that Max, whose real name is Charley Wingate, was able to have his sentence reduced to 20 years in 2016. Also, in 2019, his sentence decreased again to 12 years.

Tony Yayo and Daniel Jean starts Welcome to the Culture Podcast

Radio host Daniel Jean is starting a new podcast called “Welcome to the Culture” with Tony Yayo, close associate of 50 Cent and a prominent member of G-Unit. Each episode will be about a completely different topic.

Who is Daniel Jean

Daniel Jean is a radio personality and host for DJ Whoo Kid’s radio show on SiriusXM. He is also a social media influencer and comedian, having first come to public attention due to his funny instagram videos. Jean has been friends with Yayo since at least 2019 when they were both in the “Kitty Bill” music video.

Welcome To The Culture

Their podcast, “Welcome to the Culture”, is a podcast where the hosts try to get into some other kind of sub-culture. It is completely random as to what the culture is. Generally, it is related to hip-hop culture, in some capacity. It could be anything from attack dog training to weed brands with Yung LB to infused pizza edibles. They also have a Q&A segment with upcoming influencers about what’s relevant, trending topics and gossip.

The podcast is very recent, with there being 4 episodes available so far. They are also not getting that many views. Not counting the first episode, on average, there are about 2.2 thousand views for each video. Based on the trailer that they posted, there should be at least 4 more episodes that they have prepared. There is still a jewelry episode, a blunts episode, a girls’ night out, and a club episode that were hinted at in the trailer. However, they have not been released yet.

Whatever comes next, it is bound to be interesting and covers a sub-culture that is not generally looked at too deeply by the average person, and I am all for it.

The podcast can be found here.

Eminem Discusses Near-Fatal Overdose Almost Leaving Him Brain Damaged

Back in 2007, Eminem experienced a near-fatal overdose which could have left him brain damaged.

According to HipHop DX, on Wednesday, September 7th, the rapper appeared on his manager’s latest episode of Rosenberg’s Paul Pod: Curtain Call 2 podcast. In the episode, the two spoke about Eminem’s drug overdose from methadone and his journey to recovery. “The Real Slim Shady” rapper said,

“It took a long time for my brain to start working again!”

Rosenberg chimed in to say, “I mean, you literally were coming off of an overdose. They had to sort of stabilize you with a few medications. And some of them took you a minute to adjust to, let’s just leave it at that.” They also discussed how Eminem had difficulties rapping. Rosenberg continues, “It’s the first time probably you were creating without having substances in your body in however many years, right?” The “Without Me” hitmaker confirmed and asked, “Didn’t you ask the doctors? When I first started rapping again and sent it to you, didn’t you say like, ‘I just wanna make sure he doesn’t have brain damage.’” Rosenberg stated he was definitely concerned, adding he thought the rapper was going to be left with permanent problems.

Eminem opens up about his rehabilitation journey.

In a 2010 MTV interview The rapper revealed he had to learn how to rap and drive a car all over again. He explained how it was difficult for him to write and rap 100 percent clean. “I actually had to learn how to say my lyrics again, how to phrase them, make them flow, how to use force so they sounded like I meant them.” He continues to say he was relearning basic motor skills. He couldn’t control his hands as they would shake. Marshall would get in the booth and begin to rapping and nothing would sound right.

In other related news, FM Hip-Hop, reported that French Montana is making a major move to better the community. The rapper also had his fair share in drugs and is taking the step to open an in-home addiction help service to help others who are struggling.

Crucial Topics of Interest

Issues of wealth and progress are crucial topics within the community. And Surely, given the context of this podcast, this medium will stimulate deep and meaningful conversation on those topics. “Deposit” will feature prominent and wealthy figures within the community sharing their invaluable experiences. Charles Sanders, the host of the new podcast series, is a successful businessman. He is no stranger to struggle. Rather he has worked his way to triumph.  In fact, he has worked diligently to find his voice and establish himself as a success in a world rife with inequity.  However, he has never held back his wealth of experience. Wonderfully, Sanders put his experiences on paper. And in 2021 his literary work entitled “Black Magic: What Leaders Learn from Trauma and Triumph” was published. His ethos for the work can be firmly summarized as Goodreads notes, “A defining look at Black Magic: resilience, creativity, and perseverance, forged in his experience navigating America as a Black man. “

Cam’ron Speaks On Jay-Z And His History In Rap

Cam’ron appeared on the popular podcast Million Dollaz Worth Of Game and spoke on Jay-Z and his history in rap. The video dropped last Sunday, Aug 21, 2022, on Youtube, Spotify, and other platforms where you can listen to podcasts.

While also talking about his latest business ventures, Cam speaks about many things within the hour and forty-minute interview. Topics ranged from when Cam and Jay-Z ended their beef to why Cam’ron scrapped a verse from Jay-Z and remarkable Ma$e stories

A standout subject within the podcast is the topic of Jay-Z, or Hov, as Cam’ron refers to him, comes up. The beef between the two rappers and how they eventually squashed it. In a distant reality, Jay-Z appeared on Cam’ron’s classic song “Oh Boy.” Unfortunately, that did not happen in our time, but Cam revealed that Hov did spit a verse for one of his biggest songs.

Cam’ron & Jay-Z

Cam’ron stated, ” So Hov did a remix for “Oh Boy,” and I erased it.” Looking back on the situation, he clearly wishes he would have just vaulted the verse even if he never planned on ever using it. His reason for deleting the verse was very simple: “He erased my verse. I did a song for Peedi Crakk, and he erased my verse and threw it out, so I was like I’ma erase his verse.” Pettiness is to blame, and because of it, the world will never get to hear the lost verse from Jay-Z. However, Cam would take full responsibility “we ain’t gone find it nowhere,” adding, “I’m a very, very petty man.”

Another topic that comes up repeatedly is Cam’ron’s history in the rap game. Just hearing his stories can give you the impression that he’s been around the block. Many people who don’t know Cam’ron may not realize he has been in the game for over two decades. He has worked with giants in rap history like Biggie, is an actor, and even worked in movies. Watch the full interview below.

‘You Can’t Sign To Somebody Still Trying To Be An Artist,’ Method Man Advises Young Artists

Method Man, rap pioneer and Wu-Tang Clan Member, gave unsolicited advice to up-and-coming rappers trying to enter the industry. On the July 10 episode of the popular podcast “My Expert Opinion,” Method Man discussed a trend quite common in today’s rap game. While the Wu-Tang legend chatted with host Math Hoffa about various hip-hop topics, one in particular raised the eyebrows of many young emcees. Method Man claimed that it is not a wise move to sign to an artist-owned record label. His main critique of this standard practice is that by doing so, one’s music will always play second fiddle to the owner’s work. It’s certainly a compelling point. The level of thinking showcases why Method Man became the musical icon known the world over. Method Man explained the difficulty of the situation further, “They can’t give you the time or attention…you probably deserve.”

However, a rule is rarely a rule without exceptions. As such, the podcast did give credit to Drake as an example of this business model succeeding. He also cited Rick Ross and Meek Mill as other positive examples. Of note is the standard that Method Man gave as to why he dislikes the concept. He briefly mentions Puffy and Bad Boy Records as examples of why artists become neglected in this system. During the height of Bad Boy’s prominence, Puff received frequent criticisms. Some of the most memorable came from claims that Bad Boy existed more for Puff’s advancement than the artists he signed.

The Takeaways

Method Man’s words should be heeded. After all, it’s not every day a rapper of his caliber provides insight into the industry. However, with the success of rappers like Drake, Rick Ross and Meek Mill, one does wonder if Meth’s advice will continue to hold true. Perhaps a new era of rap management is on the cusp. One where label owners engage in their own projects and give the needed attention to the projects of label partners. The future might look different from the past, but we should still listen to the insight given by music legends like Method Man. To do so the entire podcast can be found here.
