Killer Mike Argues Against Potential Changes To Atlanta’s Nuisance Law

Yesterday, May 10, Killer Mike and also some local Atlanta club owners gathered to fight the proposed Nuisance Law changes for the city. In short, these will grant the city government to close down any business they see as a “nuisance.”

Killer Mike shares concerns about the loss of business & money made from nightclubs in lower-income areas. Additionally, anyone can abuse the Nuisance Law to target black business owners.

A short clip touches on some of what Killer Mike fights against. The artist almost immediately gets straight to the point. One thing he shares is, “I don’t want us to cut off our arm when all that needs to be amputated is our pinkie.”

Atlanta’s Battle With Hip-Hop Culture

In conclusion, the city is pushing back against one of the many cultural forces it produced. Recently, Georgia charged Young Thug, Gunna & other YSL members for racketeering, murder, etc. A RICO charge usually means evidence collection began years before.

It’s sad to see these two stars go through this, but we’ll see how the case develops. Hopefully, Young Thug & his team are innocent and prove they were not involved.

What’s Next For His Career?

A month ago, Killer Mike gave insight into his new Vice TV docuseries with TMZ. The weed-related series is appropriately titled “Tumbleweeds With Killer Mike.”

The show’s concept features the veteran rapper traveling to different cities across the United States. While at each location, Killer Mike will be showcasing how marijuana has positively affected each city’s economy. Are you excited about Vice‘s new series with Killer Mike? And do you also agree with his valid stance on Atlanta’s proposed Nuisance Law changes? Read some of today’s FM Hip-Hop articles.

Run The Jewels Drop New Music Video For Zombie, Cameo-Filled ‘Never Look Back’

Run The Jewels is back with a new music video. The video for RTJ’s song “Never Look Back” is an homage to George Romero’s classic film, Night of The Living Dead.

Directed by John Hillcoat (The Proposition), the video for “Never Look Back” has scenes from Night of The Living Dead blended with original scenes. Hillcoat also shot it in black & white like the cult horror movie. In the video, Killer Mike and El-P maneuver a zombie uprising.

In the middle of the music video, there’s a group of survivors watching Run The Jewels perform on television. Crouched near the screen is the hero of Night of the Living Dead, Ben, who is extremely important to the storyline. He was one of the few leading black protagonists in American horror films at the time. His leading role as the hero sparked a lot of controversy in 1968. This was especially the case because Ben spent a part of the movie trapped in a farmhouse with a white woman. However, it set the tone for so many movies to come in Hollywood that are similar to Night of the Living Dead.

The “Never Look Back” video stars cameos from another George Romero film as well as a modern hit tv show. Those cameos go to Greg Nicotero from Day of the Dead and Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead. These two are seen in an original clip, looking distressed with weapons in hand protecting their turf. Could it be that they think Killer Mike and El-P were zombies too? Or maybe, it is because Mike is a black man walking through the woods with his white friend? I guess we will leave that up for interpretation.
