J. Cole Surprise Album Update on New Summer Walker EP

J. Cole surprises his fans with an album update on Summer Walker’s new project, “CLEAR 2: SOFT LIFE EP.” Fans have been waiting for the artist’s highly anticipated release of “The Fall Off” for a while. So, J. Cole gives an album update on the first song of Walker’s EP “To Summer, From Cole (Audio Hug).”

“To Summer, From Cole (Audio Hug)” Breakdown

The song is a bop and has been on repeat since I first played it. Cole’s exact lyrics about his upcoming album are, “The b****es that’s hatin’, they sit around waitin’ for you to fall off, like the album I’m makin’.”

It was a nice play on words, as usual from the emcee, and great news for J. Cole’s fans. Plus, great news for the Hip-Hop industry as the artist is known to be one of the greats, and it is also the 50th anniversary of the genre this year.

The Cole’s feature on Walker’s record was a very emotional letter written to the Atlanta native, which also seemed to be long overdue based on J. Cole’s first line: “Thank you for wantin’ a verse from me. Apologies for the wait…”

The Emotional Journey Of Fatherhood

Cole’s note of admiration for Summer Walker is raw and beautiful. He commends Summer for getting through the struggles of life while being a mom: from dudes who have done her wrong to the family who has done the same.

J. Cole reflects on his own journey through fatherhood and how he can’t stop crying since having kids. The North Carolina native also mentions support for R&B girlies SZA and Ari Lennox. The “Crooked Smile” rapper then concludes his verse, saying, “You ever need somethin’ from me, don’t hesitate, please. Just hit me, and I’ll be around.”

Summer Walker’s Soft Girl Era

Summer Walker’s EP definitely highlights her soft girl period in life. The album cover completely sets the tone as she is pregnant in all white, also cradling her growing baby bump.

Summer’s Last Project: 2021 Still Over It

The 20-track album was surrounded by loads of drama, but was Walker’s heartbreak masterpiece.

Opening with support from New York rapper Cardi B on Bitter to the album’s closing with Ciara’s Prayer.

Her sophomore album was No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

The No Love singer made history with the 2021 LP during its first week with over 201 million streams.

Dreamville Festival This Past Weekend

Legendary rappers J.Cole and Drake co-headlined the music festival in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Special appearances included artists such as Summer Walker, Glorilla, Lil Uzi Vert, Usher and Lil Wayne.

The festival came with tons of memorable moments like Usher playing a cruel April Fool’s Prank.

The R&B legend joked that Mrs. Carter would be joining him on stage and his audience waited in anticipation as well as excitement.

Then charmingly said, “April fools” to his audience. It was a cute moment from the Good Kisser singer.

Summer Walker Doesn’t Approve of Lil Uzi ‘Playin With the Devil’

Lil Uzi was seen at this past weekend’s Rolling Loud Festival in an all-red suit, and he’s facing some heavy backlash from Summer Walker and more.

Uzi and Playboi Carti are industry peers that have several qualities in common. One of them being their frequent rumors of satanic worship. A woman attending Carti’s Rolling Loud set on Saturday (Mar 4) posted herself leaving due to some uncomfortable feelings. Supposedly, the concertgoer didn’t appreciate the “demonic” imagery stemming from Carti’s noticeable interest in the occult and vampy aesthetic. The video quickly went viral on Twitter and snowballed into a discussion regarding artists pushing an anti-Christian agenda. On Tuesday (Mar 7), Summer Walker joined the conversation with a post to her Instagram story.

Summer Gives A Warning

“I make a city girl believe in Satan,” Summer captioned a video of Uzi, quoting a line he rapped from an unreleased track. “I be genuinely curious have these ppl ever seen or heard a demon before? Or is it just a trend cause I feel like if you have you’d stop playin,” she started. “Really nothing funny or cute about it. May god be with you.”

The “Potential” singer later deleted the post. Despite the deletion, many like-minded Twitter users agree the music industry is headed in a dark direction. On the other end, plenty thinks the entire issue is overblown fearmongering. What’s your take on this weekend’s rambunctious Rolling Loud? Is all the fire and brimstone genuinely dark, or is it just a clever ploy for attention by today’s stars? After all, all the world’s biggest pop stars have had their turn with anti-Christian accusations. From Beyonce to Lady Gaga and even more recent acts like Lil Nas X, it’s a persevering rumor that still hasn’t died down.

You can join the conversation about Lil Uzi, Summer Walker, and more below!

Mary J Blige hits the stage again as she’s warming for tonight’s (July 27th), Apple Music Live performance. The artist spoke with Apple Music’s Nadeska regarding her career, implying her interest in working with Summer Walker and yet again, H.E.R.

According to All Hip Hop, H.E.R. features on the remix of “Good Morning Gorgeous” for Blige’s fourteenth studio album Good Morning Gorgeous. H.E.R. was also honored with producer credit for the track. The queen of R&B says the first time she saw H.E.R. perform was at the Black Girl’s Rock show. She described feeling honored as she was sitting in the front row where H.E.R. came out with her guitar and all her beautiful hair. Reminiscing, she adds,  Who was this beautiful little girl with this bass? I was in love from day one. Her music was just incredible. So standing ovation and much, much, much love to her.” She continues to add, “And I always wanted to work with her. And this was the opportunity.”

Mary J Blige x Summer Walker!

The RIAA certified H.E.R.’s 2021 Back of My Mind album as Gold. Mary J. Blige also was honored with her nineteenth Top 10 entry on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart thanks to Good Morning Gorgeous. Back in November of 2021, Summer Walker also dropped her album Still Over It which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Blige stated that Summer Walker is a beautiful person who’s super talented. She admits when she was younger she didn’t experience love from other artists who came before her. She says, “I just wanted, what we doing? How we doing it? You all can help me too, I need some help too. What’s new?” She explains that artists must keep up to date with the youth as they can help the older generation as well.

Lil Durk Drops Final Single For 7220 and Announces Free Bitcoin To Celebrate

As the buildup for Lil Durk‘s new album 7220 continues, the rapper dropped the fourth and final single before its release on Friday. The visual for the song, titled Golden Child, was also released on Thursday. Check out the video below.

The video sees Durk hanging with members of his OTF crew while flexing stacks of cash. To hype up the release of 7220, Durk asked fans to drop their cashapp handles on Twitter and announced his plans to give away $7,220 in bitcoin to celebrate.

Durk and NBA YoungBoy clash before 7220

Lyrically, Golden Child is devoid of any mention of Lil Durk’s ongoing feud with NBA YoungBoy. The beef between the two stars has heated up amidst the hype for their respective projects. Recently, rumors began to circulate that YoungBoy might sabotage Durk’s release with an album of his own on Friday.

However, the Chicago rapper announced on Instagram that anyone who wants to drop on March 11 is welcome to. Durk also included a shoutout to his friend, the late King Von. Von’s posthumous release, What It Means to be King, moved 65,000 units in its first week.

The late artist’s drop wasn’t without its own controversy, however. Youngboy seemingly attempted to sabotage Von’s release by dropping a collab with DaBaby. The track, titled BETTER THAN YOU,  only moved around 30,000 units.

It’s no surprise that YoungBoy has been coming for Durk and OTF. This has been apparent since the release of his diss track I Hate YoungBoy on February 22, where he called out Durk, Von and even Gucci Mane. The track was created in response to the lead single of 7220, titled AHH HA, where Durk had words for YoungBoy and his ex-girlfriend.

Durk also dropped the tracklist for 7220 via social media on Wednesday. The album is slated to have 17 tracks and include features from Summer Walker, Gunna, Future and even country star Morgan Wallen.

Ari Lennox Arrested And Allegedly Racially Profiled in Amsterdam

Security at Amsterdam airport arrested Ari Lennox this morning, November 29. Lennox, or Courtney Shanade Salter, posted multiple tweets relaying this information to the public.

The Dutch military police, the group responsible for security at Schiphol airport, claim that Lennox was disturbing the public order. They also reported the singer was behaving drunkenly. However, Lennox tweeted her own side of the story:

https://twitter.com/AriLennox/status/1465253413214695424

She continued: “Fuck Amsterdam security. They hate black people. I’m being arrested in Amsterdam for reacting to a woman racially profiling me.”

Lennox states that a staff of the airport had been racially profiling her before her arrest.

https://twitter.com/AriLennox/status/1465249552957681665

During the situation, the military police claimed that they were investigating reported threats. There were reports that the “Shea Butter Baby” star made threats before and during her arrest.

“Our unit found a woman full of emotions, that wouldn’t calm down. That’s why she had to be taken into custody,” military police spokesperson Robert van Kapel said.

Ari Lennox’s Arrival

Before the incident, everything was going smoothly for the singer. She performed at the Soul Train Awards on Sunday, where she  performed her latest single, “Pressure.” She also joined Summer Walker for a performance of Walker’s track “Unloyal.”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-OcGAe8JOs&ab_channel=BETNetworks

Her arrival into Amsterdam also seemed to go well, which she shared with Twitter on Sunday.

https://twitter.com/AriLennox/status/1465139067692199938?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1465139067692199938%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.essence.com%2Fnews%2Fari-lennox-allegedly-arrested-in-amsterdam%2F

Unfortunately, the departure wasn’t as graceful when conflict occurred. As she told her fans, the trip turned sour fast for the singer. Other than the reports given, it’s unclear what happened between Lennox, airport staff, and security.

The military police have not stated on Lennox’s release. The story is still developing on the 30-year-old R&B singer’s arrest.

The 2021 Soul Train Awards proved to be an immersive experience bathing its viewers in an afterglow of r&b, funk, and soul. Performances were powerful, scintillating, and sexy.

Setting things Off Proper.

Things were off and popping from the beginning, with Silk Sonic moving and grooving the crowd. Their undeniable funky sound, smooth moves, and retro look were picture perfect. Their set was proof it would be a night of incomparable flyness.Silk Sonic has been blazing the stage from the American Music Awards to Soul Train. Although the group didn’t make the show, they found a way to set off the night. They took it  back from their 70’s looks to their signature dance transitions.

Hosts Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell kept the fires stoked with their performance. Their showcase reminded the crowd of the music, passion, and purpose that solidified Soul Train as a cultural force. They took us down memory lane with soul classics such as Martha and Vandella’s ‘Dancing in the Streets’ and Jackson Five’s ‘Dancing Machine. And a special performance by El Debarge put a bit of rhythm in our night.

Soul  Train Soul Cypher

The Soul Cypher had the crowd vibing with some of the industry’s favorite soul singers and D-Nice on the turntables. The performer’s blending of old-school flavor with a relevant twist was everything. Musiq Soulchild, Jac Ross, Koryn Hawthorne, Elle Varner, and Tone Stith’s flawless harmonies were amazing. In addition, their subtle and powerful tribute to Aaliyah was praiseworthy.

Ashanti stole the show with some of her greatest hits. Her performance was perfect in every way yet wholly complete with former label mates Fat Joe and one-time duet partner Ja Rule.

The Soul Train Awards 2021 Red Carpet Was On Fire

The Soul Trains Awards is legendary so, it’s only right that it took place at the equally legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York for 2021. It also aired this evening on BET. Between the iconic artists who showed up and their stellar performances, everything was truly amazing to witness. Watching the show was a great way to end the hectic Thanksgiving weekend.

On the red carpet at The Soul Train Awards 2021, stars showed up in expectantly elegant looks. From floor-sweeping gowns to bright suits, everyone came out in their best to celebrate an evening of R&B and Soul music. Check out some of the best looks of the night below. As always, did they slay or nay?

Firstly, we have Summer Walker. She arrived in a very sexy and slinky dress with matching sparkly sandal heels. The print on her dress made a statement with images of notorious women’s mugshots on it. Certainly, Summer knows how to make something eccentric look cute.

Honoree of the night, Ashanti, looked like a holiday Barbie doll. She wore a lengthy black lace dress and gothic-looking rings on her fingers to go with it. In addition, she wore long white nails as a stark contrast to her dress.

21 Savage posed on the red carpet with a look that was as cool as ever. He wore an all-red suit with shiny black shoes, sunglasses, and a red purse. The purse was an unusual choice for such an outfit yet, 21 Savage made it work. In other words, he looked great.

Maxwell also came through with the men’s purse. The R&B legend and Soul Train Awards honoree had one slung over his all-black suit. To add some spice to his look, he wore sparkly shoes, sunglasses, and beads in his hair. He was giving Stevie Wonder with the accessories, no?

Ari Lennox looked super sensual on the red carpet. She wore a shimmery dress with a plunging neckline and feather details. Like Summer Walker, she had on matching sandal heels. Despite wearing minimal accessories, Ari looked very glamorous.

Soul music veteran El Debarge popped out as well. Unlike many of the other attendees however, he decided to show up in something casual. Walker’s sophomore album is very smooth, sultry and talks about toxic relationships and also new beginnings. One of the songs from the album “4th Baby Mama” reflects her relationship with music producer London on da Track, with whom she now shares a daughter. Still Over It is definitely personal. However, it resonates with so many women worldwide, which is why it’s a huge hit. The album consists of 20 songs featuring artists such as Cardi B, SZA, Lil Durk, Ari Lennox, JT from the City Girls, Omarion, and Pharrel. The album also features Ciara, who narrates her highly sought-after prayer. Watch below for the video of Summer Walker performing the song “Unloyal” from her new album.

Deserving Of Her Success

For most of Summer’s fans, Still Over It “just hits different.” They took to social media to congratulate the singer on her success. Her album is definitely living up to the hype. Earlier in the week, Destiny Child’s Kelly Rowland showed the singer some love in an Instagram post where she doted on one of the songs from Walker’s album. The 25-year-old songbird once shared that she used to be an exotic dancer at night who cleaned homes during the day. When she wasn’t cleaning or dancing, she would post videos of herself to Youtube performing covers. “I started singing because I wanted to make money in a comfortable and creative way.” Walker, influenced by soul singers Jazmine Sullivan and the late Amy Winehouse, has come a long way. We congratulate her on her success.
