Roc Marciano and The Alchemist Deliver on ‘The Elephant Man’s Bones’

Roc Marciano has been around for a while and just dropped his joint album with The Alchemist.  Hailing from Long Island, New York, the 44-year-old still has it.  On The Elephant Man’s Bones, Roc Marciano, and The Alchemist work together to deliver a nostalgic sounding hip hop project.  In 2022, The Alchemist takes us 30 years back with his unique instrumentals and sounds.  Roc Marciano is able to deliver without much help.

The Intro

He starts the album off with “Rubber Hand Grip”.  It gives me a 90s feel from the start.  From the beat Alchemist gives him to the rhyme schemes Roc spits.  It sounds like he should be rapping with Griselda.  He has a flow like Westside Gunn; interesting lyrics while rapping off beat.  Roc sounds like he is just talking.  You can tell he enjoys the finer things in life as he talks about speeding in a BMW and buying Mercedes Benz’s for his lady friends.  Oh yeah, and don’t mess with Roc, you can get it either way!

In “Daddy Kane”, Roc gets witty.  The song is a play on Big Daddy Kane, the legendary rapper and he refers to “Kane” as drugs.  Class is in session as listeners can learn a few things from Roc, such as “you ain’t a boss until you take a loss, that’s a lost leader”.  Roc Marciano is apparently a fly guy as he mentions sporting brands like Porsche.  He taps fellow New York rapper Action Bronson and makes for a perfect duo.  This beat is suitable for Bronson’s rapping style as he usually raps off beat as well.  Just like Roc, Bronson always has interesting lyrics.

On “Déjà vu”, Marci, as he calls himself throughout the album, comes to a realization about his rap skills, but also how the days are the same now.  Continuing with the nostalgic feel, on “Quantum Leap” The Alchemist specializes in this.  Marci speaks about his aficionado for nice cars and pretty women.  He even throws some old school ling to match the old school flow, calling opps “jive turkeys”.  He made the quantum leap from whipping bricks to sporting $30k Louis Vuitton luggage.

Roc Spits

Roc starts to unveil himself on the track “The Elephant Man’s Bones”.  He admits he has wounds and has feelings, even though women treat him as if he doesn’t.  This is short lived though, as he is back to being flashy and fly on “Bubble Bath”.  In this track, he makes it clear that he is not the average man.  His clothes do not come from Lacoste or Izod.  Only the finest for Roc!  The Long Island rapper dives back into his feelings on “Liquid Coke”.  He tells listeners that all this jewelry on him still can’t heal the bruises that he has dealt with during life.  This might be the best song on the album as after spilling his soul he bounces back by putting on his Balenciaga shoes.

Marci taps Detroit rapper, Boldy James, for “Trillion Cut”.  Boldy James starts the song off and doesn’t disappoint.  Just like he went from whipping bricks to buying Louis Vuitton luggage, Marci tells us he used to wear Champion and now he’s wearing Kevlar with scars from Pablo Escobar.  Roc gets the legendary Ice-T to tell a story on “The Horns of Abraxas” while Roc spits in between.  He continues to excel with his flow on “JJ Flash” and “Zig Zag Zig”.

The Alchemist and Marci Close Strong

As the album nears a close, Roc gives us “Stigmata”.  The Alchemist provides a soothing beat.  It sounds like Roc is at an open mic night with The Alchemist playing the soft music in the background.  Roc is a poet, but I’m sure he already knows it.  I imagine the audience snapping their fingers in applause as he leaves the stage.  He follows “Stigmata” up with “Zip Guns”, a hard track, that the streets will love.  He ends the album with “Think Big”.  On the last line of the album, he said he is channeling The Notorious B.I.G., reminiscent of the song title, Think Big.  You can tell he is influenced by Biggie with his lyrical content.  This song sounds like “Stigmata”, another track Roc is just talking to us on.  He and the Alchemist lets us out of this ride gently.

All in all, this is a good album.  Roc Marciano and The Alchemist put together a project that will be played for the rest of the year.  All of hip hop has been talking about this album.  Roc Marciano isn’t new, but I’m sure he woke a lot of people up with this one.  Go listen to The Elephant Man’s Bones if you haven’t yet!

Hit-Boy Assembles the Rap Dream Team

Fans of rap know a powerhouse when they hear it. Whether it is a legendary rappers first bars, or the first bars of an album that would go on to top charts for over a decade to come. We know what’s good, and we know what’s good together.

Certain rappers just make magic when they pool their minds together. Their fans love to speculate on these pairings, and it turns out the rappers do as well. Hit-Boy sparked Twitter’s imagination when he responded to a fun tweet about assembling a producer team.

Hit-Boy’s Dream Team

The producer is legendary by himself, but it was fascinating to see what talent he would choose to be on his Dream Team.

“me ye just blaze and alchemist. Fr fr I can cover any style of the 808 shit y’all want from polo G juicewrld to Travis scott. have just blaze pull up wit a few soulful vibes then have alchemist slide wit the dark soul. Ye can oversee it and add where he pleases. Classic fr. (Hit-Boy)”

Hit-Boy has already worked with these artists before, and many more included on the list. Every time has been gold. Getting all four artists in a room together would be something magical, and it may be closer than we think. Hit-Boy and The Alchemist are already collaborating on Half Moon Bay.

There are rumors going about that while creating this song, Ye was in the studio as well. Somebody ask if they snuck Blaze in there. This is likely going to be the closest we’re going to get to the Dream Team, at least for now.

Fan Reactions

Fans jumped on the opportunity to share their opinions. None of them could agree with each other, but all were excited.

What do you think? Let us know your Dream Team, and if Hit-Boy is on it!

Curren$y Teases Collaboration with The Alchemist in “Half Moon Bay”

After closing out a full 2021, Curren$y is looking to start 2022 off strong. The New Orleans rapper disappointed fans by delaying his collaboration with The Alchemist, Half Moon Bay. However, the rapper is famous for keeping his cool and taking surprises in stride. Yesterday, he kept the hype up by releasing a sample from one of his new songs.

Spitta won’t leave us stranded

Curren$y calmly posted a small clip from an up-and-coming song, captioning it simply,

“Y’all ready for some Andretti and @alanthechemist shit?”

If the vocals and imagery seem familiar, don’t worry. It appears this is an extension of a preview Spitta released last year. In fact, the two clips line up perfectly: where this one ends, the older one begins.

This is how, despite leaving the new post unnamed, we are able to deduce it is a preview for Half Moon Bay. The album in question was expected to drop in December 2021, but was unexpectedly pushed to 2022 at the behest of The Alchemist

Suffice to say, Spitta fans are excited.

Things are looking up

Curren$y provided fans with an exciting 2021. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, he managed to keep the year full of new releases.

And he shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Curren$y flooded his Instagram with images of him hard at work over the weekend. Featured prominently in the posts are Hit-Boy and The Game. It is unclear what exactly the three were working on, but needless to say it is exciting! And for one further step into conspiracy, it should be noted that both of those rappers were confirmed to hit the studio with Ye. Could these pictures be from the same session?

Could all four of these rapper be collaborating together? 2022 is going to be exciting!

Rap phenom Curren$y has announced that he is delaying the release of his much anticipated seventh album Half Moon Bay. The rapper made the announcement on Instagram, saying that collaborator The Alchemist wants to postpone the record. “Al wants to wait until next year y’all…. that’s my brother so I’m already in the car sliding with him on whatever he wants to do,” he wrote. “Don’t trip we got y’all covered.”  Originally scheduled to be released this Friday, December 10, a new release date for next year has not been announced.

The Alchemist

Aside from Half-Moon Bay, The Alchemist has more projects coming up. In an interview with The Needle Drop‘s Anthony Fantano, he confirmed that he is working on a soundtrack to a new film called Cycles and an appearance on Earl Sweatshirt’s new album. He will also be working with Benny The Butcher on his much-anticipated album Tana Talk 4. The producer previously released his own EP called This Thing of Ours Vol. 2 on October 8.  He had worked on Freddie Gibbs’ Grammy-nominated album Alfredo, which received critical acclaim. He also worked with Curren$y earlier in his career, including Covert Coup in 2011 and 2016’s The Carrollton Heist.

Curren$y’s Latest Projects

For the past five months, he has released a whopping six albums. Those include Highest In Charge on August 27, Matching Rolexes on September 17, Still Stoned On Ocean on October 8, Regatta on October 29 and Land Air Sea on November 29. Prior to the album releases, the rapper said he wanted to release seven projects by the end of this year. With Half Moon Bay being delayed, it will be worth the wait for fans to hear the final product. Also known as Spitta, he had teased an apparel collaboration with the New Orleans Pelicans. I’m probably not even supposed to show y’all this,” Curren$y mumbled in the tweeted video. “I probably might have to take this down might lose my Instagram like Lil Boosie or something for this.” A release date for this has not been announced.

Vince Staples Talks Collab with The Alchemist and Earl Sweatshirt

If you’re a fan of Vince Staples, Earl Sweatshirt, or The Alchemist, you’re very likely a fan of at least one of the other two.  If that’s you, then you’ll love hearing that Vince laid down 30 verses for them for a seemingly upcoming project.

The Alchemist performing. PC: Tim Mosenfelder

Right before making his self-titled project with Kenny Beats, Vince was amidst getting to work with Alc and Earl.  Alc hit up Vince to come to lay down some tracks but according to Vince, the other two spent most of the time getting high.  Vince, who doesn’t smoke, took the time to run 30 verses for a total of about 10 songs. With Alchemist and Earl’s “cryptic” working pace, Vince moved on to work with Kenny Beats in the meantime.

Vince and Earl on Viper Magazine

When Vince revealed all this info on The Ebro Show, Alchemist quickly replied with his side of the story.  And what a good side it is to hear!  Alchemist lovingly calls Vince “full of shit,” claiming that he’s been sitting on a finished 6-track EP with Vince as the only MC on it.  Beyond that, he confirms that he has a huge amount of work featuring both Vince and Earl.  Always good news from the game’s most fruitful producer.

“Run this up until we decide to unleash the fury”-The Alchemist

In terms of other upcoming releases from each of the three, Earl is unfortunately silent as always while Vince has his second LP of 2021 coming at some point.  As for Alchemist, he of course has a lot in store for us.  On August 13th, he and Boldy James will be releasing ‘Bo Jackson LP,’ the follow up to their fantastic ‘The Price of Tea in China’ from the previous year.  Additionally, he hinted at an upcoming project with Havoc.  True Alchemist fans know that the combination of him and any Mobb Deep member is lethal.

Alchemist with Mobb Deep

While we don’t have a date for the collaborations between Vince, Earl, and Alc, we’re mad excited over here.  Whenever it comes, no doubt that we’ll be kept busy for quite some time.
