Music videos often show implicated messages behind song lyrics. Because of these visually communicated messages, The Weeknd is one of those artists who tells a complete different story in his music videos. While some of his best hits give off happy vibes when listening on your IPhone or radio, his music videos at times shares a creepy and chilling! The Weeknd Has Always Had Chilling Videos
With The Weeknd’s newest album, After Hours, the public noticed a high level of creepiness in his music videos from the newest album. While the 2020 videos got many shook, The Weeknd has alway had some chilling music videos. One of his older songs “Tell Your Friends”, was the start of something new in terms of video content. In the video, The Weeknd is burying a body (HIMSELF), which is seen from the start. And about halfway through the video, the star shoots someone for no clear reason, following with a purge like siren in the video. In a way, it seems like he wants to be feared. Because of the fear aspect, the video became one of his most chilling and creepy video for viewers.
The Weeknd’s Perspective of 2020 And Its Chilling Vision
After the After Hours album released, The Weeknd made even more chilling and creepy music videos! The lyrics seem sympathetic, yet in the video there’s another story. The video gives off a Slasher or Scream kind of vibe, as The Weeknd is stalking and trying to kill the female protagonist. He begins to stare at her, follow her, and attempt to kill! Even though the female protagonist was in fear for most of the video, she won in the end by cutting The Weeknd’s head off. Interestingly enough, she danced with the head after the kill! The video is interesting when you think about how the woman acted after the kill. She may have feared him but seems to actually love him enough to dance with! In a way, The Weeknd is hinting at a domestic relationship, but in the video he really takes it to the next level!
