Talk show host and comedian Trevor Noah has shown real concern over Kanye West’s behavior recently, and it’s not hard to see why.

Trevor defends Kim K

Kanye West has had an interesting past few months to put it lightly. From rants to threats to memes, the 44-year-olds internet presence has been a mix of confusing and concerning. His latest controversy involves an online attack against the daily show host Trevor Noah. But, it seems the Born A Crime author is choosing the high road.

In a tweet from this morning, Trevor tweeted out a message regarding a previous take on the chaos surrounding Kanye and Kim’s split. “I said counsel Kanye not cancel Kanye” he typed.

On an episode of The Daily Show earlier this week (Mar. 15) Trevor Noah addressed and condemned Kanye’s online tactics. He called out West’s aggressiveness, Particularly the music video for ‘Eazy’, which contains imagery of Pete Davidson being buried alive. For fans and casual music listeners, these antics may come off as silly or even slightly funny. But the reality is, there’s a real person behind the scenes that is truly impacted by it. Noah didn’t hold back on this point in his rant. “I see a woman who wants to live her life without being harassed by an ex-boyfriend or an ex-husband or an ex-anything.” He said.

“You may not feel sorry for Kim because she’s rich and famous, but what she’s going through is terrifying to watch. And it shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave”

Kanye fires back

Kanye responded to Trevor the following day on Instagram. In a highly racially insensitive comment, West mocked Noah and also completely ignored the criticism from the segment.

While Ye is known for his outspokenness, this time he may have gone too far. The explicit Instagram comment got the ‘Hurricane’ rapper banned from Instagram for 24 hours. In addition to this, he’s been barred from this year’s Grammy awards. The comment clearly violated Instagram’s policy on hate speech and bullying and brought some admittedly deserved consequences.

Unsurprisingly, Trevor Noah responded to Ye’s comment in a civil manner. In his response, The young host managed to give Kanye his props while still maintaining his initial stance. “You’re an indelible part of my life Ye. Which is why it breaks my heart to see you like this.”

He continues, “ I don’t care if you support Trump and I don’t care if you roast Pete. I do however care when I see you on a path that’s dangerously close to peril and pain.” Clearly, Noah has genuine respect for Kanye as a man and artist. Although the Comedy Central alum showed grace in the face of disrespect, his fans still showed up in defense mode.

Kanye’s action has a reaction

It’s likely that the decision was reached to cut Ye from the Grammys to prevent any outbursts against Trevor, Kim, or Pete. Trevor Noah is set to host the award show on April 3rd, so that concern has  some added validity. West certainly has a reputation for shaking things up at the event in the past, so it’s not far fetched. Regardless of the reasoning, fans of the Chicago emcee will be missing out this year.

The banning, while not surprising is certainly unfortunate. Kanye is nominated for several awards including album of the year and best rap album.

It’s becoming clear, the industry isn’t impressed by West’s vendetta against his ex. The question is, how far will he go and how much is he willing to damage his career?
