After weeks of silence on the matter, R&B singer Ashanti has finally talked about her relationship with former Murda Inc label head Irv Gotti. She calls him obsessed in her remix of Diddy’s new single, “Gotta Move On”.
Ashanti appears in Diddy’s single alongside Bryson Tiller and Yung Miami, which recently premiered on Hot 97. In the song, she calls Irv Gotti obsessed due to him constantly talking about her in his recent interviews, despite the short-lived relationship between the two being twenty years old now. He has mentioned her in just about every interview he’s done recently, with many wondering why he was choosing now to disclose their past personal business. It is so bad that a judge is recommending she get a gag order on him.
Ashanti met Gotti through his label, Murder Inc. He was the one that first noticed her vocal skills and gave her early career a push, signing her to his label. She left the label, however, when it started holding her back. Noticing that the label was failing and wanting to escape the sinking ship, Ashanti parted ways with Murda Inc. This was happening as the label was being investigated by the federal government.
The two had a short fling during those early days before she started dating Nelly in 2003. Gotti talked about this fling in August on “Drink Champs”. He claimed that they had created her 2002 song “Happy” after they had sex. He was in the shower when he thought up the tune.
Gotti also talked more about their relationship in BET’s docu-series on Murder Inc. The relationship was a rebound after separating from his wife. How he described it was very disrespectful, so Fat Joe called him out on Instagram Live.
Deb Lorenzo, Gotti’s ex-wife, claims that he was always cheating on her and that she believes that Ashanti was only dating Gotti to advance her own career.
