Drake reportedly won’t be required to sit for deposition concerning the XXXTentacion murder trial. A Florida judge signed off per Aubrey’s request after one suspect’s defense lawyer alleged that the rapper is somehow connected to the 2018 murder.
Drake Not Involved In XXXTentacion’s Death
Prosecutors never claimed the Canadian’s involvement in XXXTentacion’s death. They were arguing XXX died during a robbery that quickly turned into violence. Another theory came into play when the defense attorney inserted the supposed feud between the rappers as a part of this case.
Rumors swirled that XXX, also known as Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, had allegedly had beef with Aubrey Graham for years.
Lawyers Say “Unreasonable And Oppressive”
Drizzy’s lawyers argued it was “unreasonable and oppressive” to pull him into the case without any clear link.
Mauricio Padilla, the defense attorney to one of the suspects, tried to subpoena Drake for a deposition after listing him as a celebrity witness at the end of last month. However, the icon didn’t attend.
“Order To Show Cause” Served To Drake
The “order to show cause” stated that because the O.V.O. founder failed to show up last month that he had to show up at the end of this month.
The order declared, “If deponent Aubrey Drake Graham does not appear to deposition he must appear before this court on Monday Feb. 27, 2023 at 10 a.m. EST at so the court can determine why he should not be held in contempt.”
Order Tossed By Florida Judge
Nevertheless, Judge Michael A. Usan approved a motion by Graham’s attorneys to toss the order for him to appear virtually — according to TMZ.
The three murder suspects are facing charges of killing XXXTentacion outside a motorcycle store. Prosecutors claimed it was a botched robbery that spiraled into murder. Each suspect is facing a first-degree murder charge.
How Did The Beef Start?
The beef began when Onfroy pointed out Drake’s song “KMT” sounded very familiar to his song “Look At Me.” Then fans suggested the Canadian rapper stole XXX’s flow. Graham also faced accusations of this earlier.
The Florida rapper later had a few words for Drake on “The Breakfast Club” and Instagram. October’s Very Own didn’t comment on the situation but insisted he didn’t steal XXX’s flow.
