Introduced at the Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference, logins using Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs will now have no password. “Passkeys” will be replacing passwords. The company’s vice president of internet technologies, Darin Adler, states that passkeys will be all digital. This more advanced way of logging in will include Touch or Face ID. Passkeys are able to connect through all your devices using the iCloud’s Keychain. The ultimate goal of this method of login is to be able to prove exactly who you say you are.
Consumers have been requesting a more secure way to log into their accounts. As the number of hackers and scammers increases worldwide, people are receiving all types of messages and scam links. According to Wired, people who use weak and repeated passwords are more likely to get their accounts hacked.

Although there’s already an abundance of websites and applications already use Face or Touch ID to login, you must first create a password. In 2021, the company first released Passkeys and began experimenting with them. FIDO Alliance has also been working towards a more secure way to log in. FIDO, another tech company has recently discovered a way to store cryptographic keys which sync between ones devices. Since this huge step, major company’s such as Apple, Microsoft, and Google have followed in support working towards a safer way to login .
