#FMSpotlight: NAMI – ‘Demos For Drake’ (Listen)

NAMI effortlessly embodies Drizzy’s musical styling in his latest mixtape, Demos For Drake. The “6 God” rapper happens to be the muse for NAMI’s EP as well.

Yet, still, listeners can decode NAMI’s beats from any other musician. The platinum producer integrates a myriad of smooth transitions. Case in point, his ability to weave around genres catches the attention of music enthusiasts worldwide.

The mixtape is packed with transparent lyrics aimed at his competitor and love interests. Moreover, he speaks about turning his dream into a reality and his views on dating. The beats go off calmly, pulling admiration from trap, gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and even electro. Not to mention, he carries a sultry vocal pattern and clear-cut flow throughout the project.

The first song, “SOMEBODY LYING,” is directed toward those who talked down on him. Once upon a time, certain people told him he wouldn’t make it. And now that he has, NAMI is taunting them for their negativity.

He spits, “Not even surprised that your disks all goin’ floppy (No)/Buyin’ up your numbers and still you could never top me (No)/You buyin’ up her diamonds but here she is tryna top me/I’m immune to dirty work, God is my antibody.”

On “EASY,” NAMI tells a lover that it’s best to part ways. He simply has no time for drama. But, no matter his efforts, his partner finds faults in it. He concludes that the spark between them has died.

He delivers, “Baby, this shit feel way too empty/I need something a lil’ less healthy, I can’t love ya/I stack commas, you stack drama/I sent you gifts, and you sent back problems.”

“WHO LIED” follows suit in terms of the message. NAMI declares that he’s not looking to settle down. And if so, he’s going to do it with someone who possesses the same standards and loyalty. After this lady finds out the truth, she turns cold. NAMI only wanted temporary fun while his love interest wanted a ring.

He spits, “Yeah, really went and blocked me, why you so salty? (Yeah) /I can’t stay around, so please don’t wait around/Thought it was gon’ be a couple rendez-vous/Bringin’ you around and showed you all the views.”

The latter of both songs comes to light in “NOBU.” This time around, he wears his heart on his sleeves. Moreso, he insists that this anonymous chick come by. But, though he enjoys her company, he still stands firmly on not dating.

He says, “I’m not really here for all you fantasies/Shocking me with all of the audacity, yeah (Shock)/Think you hold me down, oh, what a tragedy.”

Finally, “DABS, HANDSHAKES, & HUGS” and “WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE?” find NAMI basking in his success. In short, he puts egoistical rappers in their place.

One notable excerpt comes from “WHAT DO WE HAVE HERE.” He raps, “Funny how I never sleep, following all my dreams/Sun rose, wrote the song, made this beat/Most nights I sharpen the sword off the critiques/Makes me wonder how they find time to take a peak/Certain actions push me to really sit and reflect.”

Two years ago, Nami uprooted himself from Santiago, Cape Verde, to LA to pursue a career in music. At the age of 19, he has earned the title of the first Platinum producer out of Cape Verde. He has an expansive list of significant cuts under his belt, including Ariana GrandeRUSSBryson TillerYBN CordaeEarthgangAmine, and many more.

#FMSpotlight: Ryan Trey – “It’s About A Girl” (Watch)

Watch: Ryan Trey – “It’s About A Girl”

Ryan Trey has dropped a record specifically for the independent ladies called “It’s About A Girl.” He sets the tone for this song with his hypnotic vocal play and acclaims toward a special someone who’s “top 10 but not 10.” Moreover, the mellow R&B instrumental gives Trey leeway to express himself freely.

In the first verse, he describes the attributes that make his love interest a force to be reckoned with. Although she’s hard to impress, he’s showing her that he’s different than the rest.

He sings, “Still hold it down on the regular and lowkey/Still wakin’ up to different faces, yeah/She ain’t tryna to settle ’cause it’s complicated when you not basic.”

Deeper into “It’s About A Girl,” he doesn’t miss a beat as he continues shooting his shot. In turn, the august musician learns more about the apple of his eye. Since she refuses to settle, it seems like she’s bruised some egos along the way. That’s when Trey asks, “How many niggas can you curve in a night?” Although there are many men to choose from, she decides to wait it out. After all, every queen deserves a king.

To attest to her boss b*tch status, he drops these lines

You in thе Range, changin’ keys on the regular/You be dubbin’ ’em with ease like it’s regular/On the ave pullin’ G’s off the cellular.”

ryan trey

Before the song closes, we learn that she’s given Trey a chance. As a result, guys on the sidelines begin to become envious. However, it doesn’t phase the East St. Louis artist. Instead, he advises the breadwinning ladies to give a peace sign to money-snatching men.

He croons, “Shawty said she lookin’ for a Trey, girl, I know/I’m a poppin’ n***a (Yeah)/East St. nigga (Yeah)/Please, get the f*ck up out my face, lil’ n***a, uh/B*tches come and go, I can’t relate, lil’ n***a.

Last year, Trey gained high praise for his single “Rollin.” The record amassed close to 7 million streams on Spotify and became an instant fan favorite upon its release. Neil Dominique, who manages Bryson TillerPardison Fontaine, and more, discovered Ryan three years ago. He is the first artist up on tastemaker Dominique’s #JUSTAREGULARDAY imprint.

Bryson Tiller (@brysontiller) came out of hiding today with the release of his new single “Always Forever”. The star first told fans by tweeting “New Song Monday” on September 16th, accompanied with a photo of him and the words “Always Forever” engraved on the side.

The song tells the story of Tiller and his girl’s so-called ‘forever’ coming to an end because their feelings are no longer on the same level. Within the song, he expresses his heartache for a lover who doesn’t express the same emotion as he does.

“Wish you had feelings like mine, baby”, Tiller sings. “Feels like I’m still just a homie, Actin’ like you don’t want me”.

This month, the artist made his way back into the scene with the drop of his single “Inhale”. He teased the song over 3 years ago when he released True to Self. Since then, he completely vanished from the music industry and refused to release new music. Although unsure of what changed Tiller’s mind and made him release new tracks, his fans are grateful for his return from the shadows and silence no longer.

It is obvious Tiller hasn’t lost his touch, his velvety smooth voice unbeatable and strong as ever. The artist is also releasing a special edition of his debut album, TRAPSOUL, featuring songs that didn’t make the cut the first time. He announced that it will be available on all platforms this Friday. His latest and third studio album ‘Serenity’ is said to drop this fall.
