Creed III Set To Have Big Weekend

Creed III has plans to top the box office this weekend as the third installment in the series opened at midnight.  In what will be Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut, the previews already raked in $5.45 million on Thursday.  The film is projected to reach $36 million in its debut weekend, just shy of Creed II’s opening weekend.  Creed II hit $35 million while the origin of the series, Creed, managed to do $29 million.  Stars Jonathan Majors and Jordan have built anticipation of their characters and movie plot via trailers and interviews.  Fans will be in for a treat!

Creed x Anime

Jordan gives credit to Anime in certain aspects of this film.  One of the many themes of Creed III is being challenged by a person you once called a friend and shared a bond.  This is a theme that can be found in various Anime films or series such as Dragon Ball Z and My Hero Academia.  The Black Panther actor says he identifies with Goku in Dragon Ball Z in a conversation with Polygon.

“It’s Goku’s resilience, you know? No matter how much pain and struggle he goes through, every battle, a Saiyan only gets stronger….I think that resilience, that never-give-up attitude is what I connect with, and I dig that.”

Dreamville Soundtrack

The premiere of Creed III was set in Los Angeles at the TCL Chinese Theater earlier this week.  Many stars showed up to the premiere such as Cordae, Chloe Bailey, and Big Sean.  Big Sean probably showed up to the premiere because he is on the soundtrack to the movie.  Creed III: The Soundtrack is an album by Dreamville featuring artists from the J.Cole led record label as well as other artists.

Dreamville artists, JID, Lute, Cole, Ari Lennox, Bas, Cozz, Earthgang, Omen, and SiR, are all on the soundtrack.  Guest features include Kehlani, Morray, Buddy, Blxst, Symba, Big Sean, and EST Gee.  Bas had the pleasure of playing “Blood, Sweat & Tears” in the studio for the Creed III director, to which he immediately fell in love with it.  Jordan along with Ryan Coogler also had a hand in executive producing the soundtrack.

J.Cole and his record label have been busy this week.  They have also announced their lineup for the 2023 Dreamville Festival.  The festival will take place in Raleigh, North Carolina with Drake and Usher headlining the three-day event along with Cole.

Hidden Features & A Missing 16th Song

Many were excited to see what artists JID will collaborate with on The Forever Story upon the tracklist reveal today. While the features are still a mystery, there aren’t that many of his peers who can (or want) to keep up with Dreamville’s brightest star under J. Cole. There are tons of talented producers who made it onto the final tracklist including Monte Booker & Christo (who produced the most songs). It’s unfortunate that the song 2007, which is supposed to be the outro, couldn’t make the album due to its sample usage. His team still released the song & visualizer on Youtube for fans to experience:

What Else We Know About JID’s New Album

The album is finally arriving on our streaming service accounts & libraries this weekend. Both lead singles Dance Now with Kenny Mason & Surround Sound featuring 21 Savage & Baby Tate. As mentioned above, it was supposed to be 16 songs until the original outro was removed. Overall, things are shaping up very nicely for this release & hopefully we’ll see which other artists will appear on one of the most highly anticipated albums this year. JID Believes A Lot Of Bigger Artists Are Scared To Rap With Him

JID is easily one of the most talented lyricists & overall rappers in Hip-Hop right now. While we await his upcoming album The Forever Story, he’s been tearing through features with many superstars including Doja Cat, Kid Cudi, Imagine Dragons & more. However, JID went on Twitter a few days ago (June 21st) to call out some of his bigger rap peers for avoiding collaborating with the Atlanta native. “I think y’all n***az scared, I’m talking bigger rap artists,” he wrote in a now-deleted tweet. It’s important to mention that JID is primarily calling out bigger-name artists because he is very active in the underground scene. Take a look at his deleted tweets below:

His First Top 10 Hit Is From A Guest Appearance

While it’s understandably why JID would like to test his ability against more established rappers, he’s doing perfectly fine right now. The Dreamville rapper earned his first top 10 Billboard hit song back in March with his Imagine Dragons collaboration “Enemy”. It’s easily his biggest song now & adds to the momentum he’s building for The Forever Story album. I’m sure he wasn’t complaining about his recent Pop features when he tweeted out, “None of my rap co workers be tryna rap wit me dawg… Only women and pop stars lol,” alongside his other deleted tweet.

JID Dropping The Forever Story Very Soon

It’s been almost 4 years since JID’s last official project Dicaprio 2 from 2018. This new album will serve as a follow-up to his debut Dreamville project The Never Story. With fans eagerly waiting & his career getting bigger every day, there are lots of expectations for JID. He hasn’t disappointed yet & the momentum surrounding this new album is insane. Hopefully, there will be songs with his peers, labelmates, AND bigger rappers who may have been scared to rap with one of the best out right now. J Cole Asked By Nardwaur if He Told Dr Dre to Sign Kendrick, Left Too Stunned to Speak

J Cole was the most recent artist on the receiving end of Canadian interviewer and musician Nardwaur’s unusual interview style. Nardwaur is an expert at getting the most obscure and unexpected details from celebs.

J Cole and Kendrick Go Way Back

During the latter half of the hour-long interview, Nardwaur asked Cole about his involvement in Kendrick Lamar’s record deal. Cole, after collecting himself, then revealed that he actually did play a role in putting Kendrick on.

“Who told you that?” Cole then asked Nardwaur, clearly perplexed. “Who gave you that piece of information? … The answer is yes. I did. I’m not gonna say I was the first to tell him […] I was like, ‘Yo, you gotta sign this kid from Compton, Kendrick.”

The ‘HUMBLE’ rapper would sign to Dre’s record label Aftermath Entertainment in 2013. Kendrick then quickly became a notable talent in the rap scene with introspective hits like ‘Swimming Pools’ and ‘Money Trees.’ He continues to contribute to the culture with his latest project, DAMN, and a new album currently in the works.

Cole also divulged to Nardwaur his past wishes to sign Kendrick to his own label Dreamville Records. He explained that despite his wishes to add Kendrick to his team, the record label wasn’t established enough for the move.

“We didn’t have our business intact, but that’s how much I rocked with him at that time. I met him, and instantly, I was highly impressed. That would’ve been the first artist in my mind [to sign], but come to find out, he had bigger shit going on.” He said.

Fast forward to 2021, and Dreamville is then known for its impressive roster. Their lineup includes Ari Lennox, JID, and Earthgang.

J Cole Gifted

Aside from Kendrick and Dreamville, the Cole’s and Nardwaur’s interview covered a variety of topics. He spoke on his childhood using the Roland TR-909 beat machine to perfect his craft early on and also how 15 became his favorite number.

As always, Nardwaur was generous with the gifts. Cole received one of J. Dilla’s turntables, a Breaks & Beats Spaceman doll, and also some pieces of vinyl, including ’40 Bars’ by Allen Iverson and “Armed and Extremely Dangerous,” by First Choice.

EARTHGANG Drops New Single And Video “Options” with Wale (Video)

EARTHGANG is back with a smooth new single “Options” and a trippy video to go along with it. The Atlanta duo is joined by D.C. rapper Wale on the track. For the video the duo teamed up with Zack Sekuler and Bona Bones from the Adult Swim cartoon Robot Chicken.

Johnny Venus of EARTHGANG and Wale float over the beat as they lament the ups and downs of relationships.  In the video both EARTHGANG and Wale are shown as action figures of themselves dealing with the struggles of their romantic lives. The stop motion video is at times shocking and at other times hilarious

EARTHGANG’s Doctur Dot accompanied the release of the single with an Instagram post proclaiming “NEW ALBUM ON THE WAY”. Johnny Venus also referred to the video as “PT 1” in a separate Instagram post, perhaps meaning we’ll see more action figure EARTHGANG in the future. The teased album would be the duo’s followup to their 2019 major label debut Mirrorland.
