“Top Notch” By Mahoney (feat. Monaleo): A Celebration Of Girl Power

Mahoney, a Bay Area singer-songwriter, is back and better than ever! Her current track, “Top Notch,” produced by Starski and featuring Monaleo, was poised to be the new ladies’ anthem as the year 2024 concluded.

Sometimes, women become overwhelmed and feel like giving up. But there’s always something to motivate them to keep going. Could it possibly be a song such as “Top Notch?” This song is all about girl power, pushing one to keep rising no matter what.

Mahoney’s “Top Notch”

One cannot allow barriers to derail them from their life’s mission, no matter how many there are. Mahoney and Monaleo are aware of this.

As Mahoney shares,

“This song really reflects where I am right now, and I’m super excited to share that with everyone.”

“I said I’m top notch; you can’t see me; I’m in the top spot,” the duo sings on the catchy melody.

The Emphasis

The song emphasizes the artists’ sass and confidence as they promote their accomplishments, position, and unique style. As the lyrics convey, Mahoney and Monaleo are proud of their victories in life, which can inspire others in many ways. But how?

Some may avoid revealing their accomplishments to others because they fear being perceived as braggadocious. However, these two women exemplify fearlessness, going to great lengths to speak highly of themselves.

“Top Notch” And A Collaboration With Mozzy?

“It just keeps getting better. On Your Way,” created by 30Hertz and featuring Sacramento’s Mozzy, is also available! This track showcases another one of Mahoney’s talents—her vocal ability. Mahoney raps and sings—that is multi-talented, wouldn’t you say?

Mozzy’s Impact on Mahoney

Mozzy, the featured artist, has collaborated with well-known rappers such as Sada BabyDave East, and Young Thug. This makes Mahoney’s opportunity to collaborate with him incredible, as it signals fresh possibilities await her and that’s exciting.

Many times, when a person appreciates and excels at their skill, they are surprised by the amount of praise they receive. But the more time and effort a person devotes to their craft, the more unexpected opportunities they will acquire.

“Top Notch” and “On Your Way” are now available on the streaming platforms below.

FM Spotlight: “Self Made Self Paid 2” By Big Homiie G

Big Homiie G’s “Self Made Self Paid 2” record is an eight-track addition to the artist’s previously released “Self Made Self Paid” album. A rather eclectic new album’s collection consists of songs ranging from deep and meaningful “Be There” to “Hot,” where Big Homiie G uses lines like “don’t ask me shit about shit” over a suspenseful instrumental (which is also deep and meaningful but in a different way).

The lyrics are something to point out. There are various attention-catching lines throughout the record. For example, in “Be There,” the author creates an antithesis, starting the verse by talking about drugs he just took and moving on to thinking about family and responsibilities (“I’m out drunk, pills, and ‘shrooms, my body goin’ through the motions I’m in Miami by the ocean, thinkin’ bout my Uncle Bud (Yeah, yeah) … I gotta be there for my daughter, I gotta be there for my sons, I gotta be there for everybody need me”).

Another example would be “Us Pt. 2” with trashy lines like “my b*tch just text, she havin’ PTSD.”

One way or another, the artist is catching listeners’ attention through the lyrics.

The Album’s Instrumentals

Instrumentals also eclectic, though most are within the bounds of trap Hip Hop music. Something particular to point out is the increased originality of the songs. In the last review, I mentioned that the first part of “Self Made Self Paid” sounds like a compilation made by other artists instead of Big Homiie G’s record. This time it doesn’t.

Overall, the record is a solid pack of bangers describing the artist’s (or the album’s lyrical character’s) drug-induced, trashy, sometimes suspenseful routine. Many lyrics catch attention, though not many of them are necessarily catchy. The instrumentals also appear well-made and seemingly more eclectic than the last time. A seven out of ten

“Go Get Da Money”

Together with a new record, Big Homiie G also recently released a “Go Get Da Money” music video featuring Moneybagg Yo and Skilla Baby. In the clip, artists appear together with women, money, women counting money, etc.

FM Spotlight: “Still King (Deluxe)” By BIG30

The deluxe version of BIG30’s “Still King record is rather versatile, yet there are pieces binding the album. While bangers and lyrical compositions with various genres appear throughout the record, many tracks will likely have boosted bass and aggressive or suspense-sounding piano in the background.

This situation ends up being a double-edged sword. While the similarity of the sounds gives BIG30 a signature style, some tracks might appear too similar.

That is not to say that every song sounds the same. As mentioned above, one can encounter a variety of genres and moods while listening to “Still King. There is  a Triple Six Mafia-sounding beat in “NIKE TECH. Bangers like “4 AM IN INDIANA or “SlIMES AND CHOPPA GANG and lyrical compositions, such as “FACETIME WITH MY MAMA or “BEEN A THREAT also add to the picture.

The same goes for the lyrics. A lot of them show a drug dealer’s daily routine or describe weapons being used against supposed enemies. Still, many tracks raise deep subjects or talk about important concerns. An example would be the aforementioned “BEEN A THREAT, with bars like,

“Percs and Xanax (Perky), smoke Black back-to-back because it keep me sane

Lost my cousin (My cousin), been fucked up mentally, can’t say shit but, “Man (Man).”

Moreover, the lyrics describing the drug dealer’s routine and stuff like that also have many exciting details to them. A subtle antithesis in “4 AM IN INDIANA (“wash my face and brush my teeth and go pick out a strap”) or lines causing nervous laughter in “SHAWN CARTER” (“caught an opp twistin’ his hair in traffic, three shots to his dreads”) are only some of the examples.

Overall, BIG30’s new deluxe version of “Still King” album is a solid record with multiple bangers and other notable points. It could be a little more differentiated and have a little less violent threats, but other than that, there’s not much to complain about. A solid 7 out of 10.

Grammy-Nominated Songwriter Playy Delivers Uplifting Message In New Song “Nothing 2 Something”

Grammy-nominated songwriter and recording artist Playy has released a new anthem called “Nothing 2 Something.” This optimistic track aims to inspire fans, showing them that success can be achieved from the ground up. It emphasizes that where you’re headed is more important than where you come from. We all start somewhere, but where we end up is all that matters.

A few months ago, Playy teased the new track with an in-studio performance during his appearance on The Progress Report.

A native of Houston, Playy’s new video for “Nothing 2 Something” depicts his journey from hitting rock bottom to reviving his music career and achieving even greater success. Previously signed to Interscope Records, Playy’s determination and consistency have allowed him to write for and collaborate with notable artists like Ludacris, Nicki Minaj, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, and Kelly Rowland. While working with prominent names has boosted his popularity, artists can still gain recognition without such collaborations. Their talent and style must be outstanding and captivating enough to draw in audiences to place them in the spotlight.

nothing 2 something

The Wisdom Of Playy’s Track

“Nothing 2 Something” is about coming from nothing and achieving everything. It also emphasizes the importance of learning how to appreciate what one has because one can lose it all in the blink of an eye.” Gratitude is essential! “I want to help people understand that it can go either way. You never know. Just keep fighting”, said Playy.

The song was produced by Mic Moody, with whom Playy has been working for many years. Among his many credits, Mic Moody has worked with Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Victoria Monet, and Lucky Daye, to name just a few.

It is not deemed invalid to work with a music producer who has not worked with big names in the music industry. However, a lot of times, associating with a famous producer who collaborates with major stars typically boosts the exposure of your songs.

“Nothing 2 Something” Is A True Rags To Riches Tale

Shot by DGreen in Houston, Texas, the music video depicts Playy as a homeless artist who is recognized on the street by other artists. After bouncing back, it appears that he now has a large house, an impressive collection of cars, and women. It is an accurate representation of what it is like to go from nothing to having something. In my opinion, this music video and song should resonate with many people. People tend to take life for granted and assume that they will never experience financial difficulties. There is no such thing as being overly certain.

Next year, Playy will perform at SXSW again and release new music.

About Playy

Born and raised in Missouri City, Texas, Playy has always been surrounded by music and drawn to it. At a young age, he encountered many family and friends making music and decided to give it a try. When his mother constructed a recording studio for him, Playy realized that it was time to begin pursuing music more seriously. After moving to Atlanta at 16 years of age, he soon became acquainted with Mike Will Made-It and others. Playy has collaborated with numerous artists throughout his career, including Girls’ Generation, Twista, Lucky Daye, and Marley Waters. As part of his new management arrangements, Playy continues to write music for others but also creates his own hits.

With its powerful and uplifting message, Obed Padilla once again demonstrates his exceptional talent and ability to convey powerful messages through music.

Padilla’s Persistence

Padilla’s public presence in the music industry began in 2016 with his first gig. In a 2022 interview with Voyager LA, he revealed that he has dedicated the past six years of his life to his music with laser-like focus.

Obed Padilla attributes his success to persistence. He recalls times when he faced challengesbut he persisted in pursuing his passion, which eventually led to success.

Padilla’s Musical Journey Continues

Padilla has released three albums in his career to date. Genius lists “No Ways Tired,” “Exit 104, and “2-Steppin as some of his most popular songs. It has been a while since his last album, “Tried and Truth, which was released in 2021 in the hip-hop genre, but he is now back with “Patience.

Padilla’s “Patience”

Patience was created to highlight “Honey Empire. But what exactly is the Honey Empire? According to Forbes, Gary Vaynerchuk created the concept, which emphasizes empathy as a core value. It is a strategy that is both principled and results-oriented.

According to Gary, their commitment to empathy has accelerated their business acumen and enabled them to stay connected to culture, operate quickly, and maintain authenticity. To reinforce this message and capture the essence of VaynerX’s mission, Padilla presented to the world “Patience.”

“Find the good in the bad; your right from your wrong, the artist writes. The smiles from the sad find the good in the bad. If it’s honey that you seek, build an empire to last. Even when you hit a wall, you know I’ve got your back. Undeniably, this message holds significant weight.

FM Spotlight: “Self Made Self Paid” By Big Homiie G, Review & Artist’s Commentary

Big Homiie G has just released his new “Self Made Self Paid” project. The record is full of bangers, some lyrical compositions, and a couple of features. In the artist’s own words, “[The new mixtape] is pure. It’s hard. You’re gonna be able to vibe to it and ride to it.”

Big Homiie G · Self Made Self Paid

If getting in more detail, the disk consists of 17 tracks, ranging from trapesque “Blowing Money Fast” to the more romantic “Said I Love You” (though even when seemingly in love, Big Homiie G is still using the part of a beat to talk about being “too focused on his check”). More lyrical compositions include “Bother Me,” where the artist reflects on his life and references Future’s “Perkys Calling” in the chorus. There are some starry features, too, such as GloRilla and Rob49.

“Self Made Self Paid” is definitely something you can “vibe and ride to.” The record would fit well playing in the car or at the party.

However, none of the tracks seem too catchy. They just sound like something you’ve heard time and time before but from different artists. For example, the aforementioned “Bother Me” reminded me too much of Future‘s work, and not only because of the “Perkys Calling” lyrical reference. Still, it could be just a matter of my personal taste.

Overall, “Self Made Self Paid” seems to lack Big Homiie G’s authentic sound and appears as a compilation of tracks recorded by various other artists. It is rather high-quality and well-sounding, but still a compilation.

Big Homiie G’s Upcoming Plans And Overall Goals

Moving on, Big Homiie G plans to “keep his foot on the gas.” The artist’s ultimate goal is “To see myself being successful. To have a lot of success. I don’t care about the Grammys or nothing like that, but I can see myself on the Grammy, getting a Grammy. Being nominated for things or, you know, shit like that. Success.”

FM Spotlight: A’NAMII Talks About Abusive Relationships In “Settle”

The “Settle” song and music video by A’NAMII talk about the obstacles of abusive relationships. The dreamy R&B instrumental of the track goes in contrast with lyrics like “what If I did this shit to you” or “thought you was breaking me down.”

The “Settle” Plot

The music video shows a couple attending a party. A lot of the A’NAMII’s lyrical character friends are also there, and some of those people happen to be men. This fact gets the boyfriend gradually upset, as many male friends of the singer’s lyrical character approach her, give hugs, and talk.

Eventually, the boyfriend can’t handle all the hugging and talking anymore, so he starts publicly arguing with the A’NAMII’s character. The singer’s friends help her calm the guy down, after which the singer’s character leaves for a moment and runs into another male friend. The boyfriend eventually follows A’NAMII’s character, and seeing the two chat sets him in rage mode. Almost immediately, the boyfriend grabs A’NAMII’s arm, and the two leave the party.

The next camera shots show the two arguing in the car. Eventually, physical altercations occur, as the two are smacking each other while driving. At some point, the car stops at the vacant lot.

After this, the boyfriend exits the vehicle and approaches the door where the girlfriend sits. He opens the door and starts throwing A’NAMII’s character out of the car while she is resisting. Once the singer’s character is on the ground, the boyfriend starts choking her and drives away, leaving A’NAMII’s character sitting on the floor.

The Video

The video sequence captures the boyfriend’s behavioral change from toxic to downright abusive. It worsens with every new man approaching, location changing, or both. One can see how he acts nicer in public at the party and then act violently in the privacy of the empty parking lot. The video’s colors also capture this, as it gets darker and darker, with the boyfriend’s behavior worsening.

In the beginning, the couple happily walks in the street during the day, and even though it’s already sunset, the sun still shines brightly. It gets darker at the party with dimmed lights, where we can also already see the signs of the boyfriend’s toxic behavior. And then, it gets completely dark in the end, when the couple drives back during the night, and the boyfriend acts violently in the parking lot.

Another thing about A’NAMII’s “Settle” music video is that its end appears at the beginning. It helps to settle the mood and see through the boyfriend’s behavior in the video more clearly.
