French Montana Talks About Being Shot in 2003

French Montana appeared on Sway’s Universe on Thursday, June 23 — a day before the release of his new album Montega. During the show, French spoke about the time he suffered a gunshot to the head in The Bronx in 2003. His former friend was the one who set him up, but he was also accountable for saving French’s life in the end.

“Your greatest threat always comes from the inside. They put staples in my head, bitch, they been tried,” French said on the show, referencing a line from his new song Blue Chills.

During the interview, Sway wondered if the Morroco-born rapper still kept in touch with his former friend. “There was no communication. There can’t be,” French said.

French Montana’s Close Call

French was leaving a recording studio in The Bronx before the shooting occurred. Two gunmen approached him, causing a fight to arise.

French realized that one of his friends set him up. “I ain’t run. We had the thing on us, they had the thing on them. But they got to their thing first,” he said during an interview in 2008. The struggle continued, and one of the gunmen pulled the trigger, shooting French in the head. “The bullet went in and out,” he said.

The man who shot French was unintentionally shot and killed by his partner during the fight. French’s ex-friend then took him to Lincoln Hospital.

French was charged with murder after the shooting. Thankfully, he beat the case. He explained that there was no evidence for the case. “His man that was shooting shot him by mistake. One shot me and his man shot him trying to shoot me.”

The Rap Game Is Not Easy

French shared his story shortly after Bronx rapper Lil Tjay was shot several times and rushed to surgery after an attempted robbery in New Jersey on Wednesday, June 22.

French told TMZ that he learned about Lil Tjay’s condition and has not spoken to him since the incident earlier this week. “It’s a bad situation. It’s hard out here for rappers, man.”

He continued, “We got the hardest job. You don’t know where it comes from, man. We think that everybody love us but everybody don’t love us.” French and Lil Tjay have a history together. The two teamed up with Blueface to receive a gold medal for their hit song Slide in 2019.

French Montana’s fans and loved ones are glad that he survived such a scary situation, and the rap community hopes Lil Tjay can pull through.

Lil Tjay Announces Sophomore Album “Destined 2 Win”

Lil Tjay has been in the spotlight for a while now.

The 19-year-old rapper has been making moves. Coming off his collaborations with the late Pop Smoke, Lil Tjay is making a name for himself. This year, the rapper has dropped two singles distinguished from one another—“Calling My Phone” featuring 6lack and “Headshots” featuring Polo G and Fivio Foreign. Based on that alone, you could easily predict the Bronx native will be dropping a new album. Which the rapper has recently confirmed.

Correspondingly, Lil Tjay took to Twitter today to announce his sophomore album and also give us a glimpse of the album cover and tracklist. “My second album Destined 2 Win is dropping on 4/2!! I just wanna say thank ya for being patient with me. I wanted to give ya the best body of work I can. Pre-save now and run it up and I’ll drop the features.”

Of course, the album tracklist does not involve any guest appearances on the album. Since “Headshot” and “Calling My Phone” are included, you can assume this album will have a couple of more eye-catching features. It will be interesting to see where this album lands despite “Calling My Phone” debuting in the Billboard top 3.

After all, there is not that much time to wait. The album will be dropping next week, serving us a brand new set of songs to incorporate within our playlist for Spring and Summer.

#FMSpotlight: Pops Smoke feat. Lil Tjay “Mood Swings” (Official Music Video)

French Montana feat. Pop Smoke "Double G" (Official Music Video)

Mood Swings was one of the biggest hits off of late Brooklyn rapper Pop Smoke’s (@realpopsmoke) post-humous album Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon. The record sees Pop reuniting with Bronx rapper Lil Tjay (@liltjay) for a slow-moving track in which they both take turns referencing their experiences with women and the problems that come along with fame and their expensive lifestyles.

The music video premiered last Wednesday, October 7th, 2020, and it has already reached 5.4 million views. The video was filmed after Pop Smoke’s tragic death because there is no footage of him singing along to his lyrics nor is he a part of the video’s plot. The 20-year-old died on February 19, 2020, after being shot twice during a home invasion in Hollywood Hills, CA.

In late July 2020, the song started trending on TikTok. Part of the song’s success is attributed to the several skits that were made sampling the song’s last chorus, which is catchy due to the juxtaposition between Pop’s lower-pitched and Lil Tjay’s higher-pitched voices.

The two New York rappers have an extensive history of collaborations and have worked together on other songs such as:

  • Pop’s 2019 War
  • Pop’s 2020 Mannequin
  • Guido Dos Santos’ 2019 Mary Jane
  • Tjay’s 2020 Zoo York
  • Additionally, the two are known to have multiple informal and unreleased tracks together, such as Pop’s unreleased song Cappin.

Tjay released a song titled Forever Pop after his friend’s sudden death.

Know I’m finna make it to the tippy-tippy top, bro, for you
I knew that’s what you wanna see me do
Can’t believe this shit, can’t believe this shit is true
Took you out your glory, who wanna see you lose?
Woke up in the mornin’, see my n**** on the news
