Back in 2018, the rap and hip-hop community was left with a heavy burden upon hearing of the passing of Mac Miller. Rapper French Montana felt strongly inspired by his death and began an addiction help service.
According to HipHop DX, French stated in an interview with the PEOPLE Every Day podcast, that he battled his own addiction. The “Drop Top” rapper revealed that his new partnership with Guardian Recovery Services and NAQI Healthcare is set to provide supervised in-home detox programs for addicts looking to get sober. In regards to Miller’s death, French say’s “it touched me because I’m in that space and I consider these artists as my brothers and my family.”
“When we lose one, it’s like damn near losing part of us.”
He continues to express the benefits of the program. French explains that detoxing alone can often lead to dangerous situations, so the service helps addicts detox the correct way. According to French, “You can’t shake it off yourself, because it’s dangerous.” The star is beyond excited and thrilled that he can help cure people in the comfort of their homes. He say’s many people are private and when they experience something like this they want to stay private. “You want to be taken care of wherever you’re comfortable. We want to help people stay alive as much as we can, wherever they’re comfortable.”
French considers the decision to become sober one of the greatest achievements of his life!
In 2019, the rapper was hospitalized for exhaustion and substance abuse and has been sober for over a year. He add’s “sober is becoming my new high.” French states he took two steps back, didn’t drop any music, and he stayed off from social media. “I think that was like the hardest thing I ever did in my life… For me to stop everything and just step back, that was like one of my biggest accomplishments.”
The late Mac Miller passed at the age of 26 due to an accidental overdose. L.A. County Coroner’s Office confirmed it was a combination of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol. FM Hip-Hop is all for French’s latest move as he aims to better the community. Check out a clip from The Breakfast Cub below.
