Doechii Talks About TDE & More With The Breakfast Club

Doechii sat down with The Breakfast Club this morning (September 27th) & discussed several topics with the hosts. Most notably the discussion highlighted her role in TDE as the well-respected label’s first official female MC. After appearing on her label mate Isaiah Rashad’s last album The House Is Burning, the California-based record label announced her signing a few months ago. She stated, “It’s a lot of pressure, but it’s good pressure, that I put on myself because it’s like such a dope legacy,” when asked about her experience/role with their team. Take a look at the full Breakfast Club interview below:

Her Relationships With Other Artists On TDE

One thing those at Top Dawg Entertainment are known for is their familial-like environment among their roster. This all started with the Black Hippy group (the original signees of the label) that includes rappers Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Jay Rock & Schoolboy Q. Now with the roster expanded & Kendrick’s departure, this tradition of the artists being close still continues.

Kendrick himself left around the time Doechii was announced as a new member. Doechii explained that she’s never met Kendrick Lamar in person, “Kendrick be in like Africa. It’s hard to catch him.” According to her though, he did praise & show love to Doechii in conversation. Isaiah Rashad & Ab-Soul were the first artists she truly formed a solid relationship on the label according to her as well. Her & SZA have a great relationship naturally as the only two female signees, but they also have a single out together now which. is doing very well:

The Future For Doechii & Her Music Career

She’s easily one of the most exciting new/young prospects on the label & Hip-Hop in general. TDE is known for fostering its rosters’ talents & truly putting out high quality art. Her signing is especially exciting as she’s already received tons of industry love & mainstream success/appeal. Despite being so young, she’s even managed to land a spot on this year’s XXL freshman list & a BET performance. Do you believe Doechii can have a long career in the Hip-Hop industry?

Lil Mama Still Has Beef With Charlamagne Tha God

New York artist, Lil Mama, has some words for Charlamagne Tha God.  On Charlamagne’s TV show, he sat down with fellow New York rapper Fat Joe.  On “Hell of a Week”, the two discussed PnB Rock’s tragic death.  Fat Joe expresses that being a rapper is one of the most dangerous jobs in America.  You must always keep your head on a swivel, either the police try to put rappers in jail because of their lyrics or someone from your neighborhood wants to kill you.  Someone posted the interview to Instagram and Lil Mama jumped in the comments.

Lil Mama vs Charlamagne

She went after Charlamagne by saying he was a “b**** a** n****”.  She is referring to her interview with New York’s Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club years ago.  In that interview, Charlamagne caused Lil Mama to cry based on the questions and comments during their conversation.  According to the South Carolina radio personality, he was only joking with Lil Mama, but remains unapologetic.

She even became a infamous meme because of this interview.  I guess Lil Mama was watching the interview as of recent as she states she just realized that Charlamagne tried to “trick” her.  Lil Mama continues in the comments accusing Charlamagne to be jealous of her.

Charlamagne Talks

Knowing how Charlamagne the God is, I’m sure he is not worried about this.  And I’m sure he would be welcome to have Lil Mama on The Breakfast Club to have a conversation.  We all know Charlamagne the God is very outspoken on all matters, especially when it comes to our culture.  Regarding PnB Rock’s death, the popular radio personality is confused as to why rappers will post RIP messages all over social media when their peers die, and still support that lifestyle.  He feels rappers should be smarter with all the deaths that have taken place.  I agree!  Rappers need to make some changes.

French Montana Starts Addiction Help Service Inspired By Mac Miller Death

Back in 2018, the rap and hip-hop community was left with a heavy burden upon hearing of the passing of Mac Miller. Rapper French Montana felt strongly inspired by his death and began an addiction help service.

According to HipHop DX, French stated in an interview with the PEOPLE Every Day podcast, that he battled his own addiction. The “Drop Top” rapper revealed that his new partnership with Guardian Recovery Services and NAQI Healthcare is set to provide supervised in-home detox programs for addicts looking to get sober. In regards to Miller’s death, French say’s “it touched me because I’m in that space and I consider these artists as my brothers and my family.”

“When we lose one, it’s like damn near losing part of us.”

He continues to express the benefits of the program. French explains that detoxing alone can often lead to dangerous situations, so the service helps addicts detox the correct way. According to French, “You can’t shake it off yourself, because it’s dangerous.” The star is beyond excited and thrilled that he can help cure people in the comfort of their homes. He say’s many people are private and when they experience something like this they want to stay private. “You want to be taken care of wherever you’re comfortable. We want to help people stay alive as much as we can, wherever they’re comfortable.”

French considers the decision to become sober one of the greatest achievements of his life!

In 2019, the rapper was hospitalized for exhaustion and substance abuse and has been sober for over a year. He add’s “sober is becoming my new high.” French states he took two steps back, didn’t drop any music, and he stayed off from social media. “I think that was like the hardest thing I ever did in my life… For me to stop everything and just step back, that was like one of my biggest accomplishments.”

The late Mac Miller passed at the age of 26 due to an accidental overdose. L.A. County Coroner’s Office confirmed it was a combination of fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol. FM Hip-Hop is all for French’s latest move as he aims to better the community. Check out a clip from The Breakfast Cub below.

BOBBY SHMURDA ADVISES FELLOW RAPPERS TO NOT GO BACK TO THE HOOD

Bobby Shmurda had recently been released from jail. While living life to the fullest, the rapper has some words of wisdom for other rappers in the industry.

bobby shmurda
Bobby Shmurda tells rappers to avoid chilling in the hood.

Hip Hop DX reports that on Wednesday (May 11), Shmurda was interviewed by DJ Self at Power 105.1. In the interview, the artist weighed in on rappers hanging out in the hood and how it can negatively impact their careers.

“I see n-ggas say this, ‘Don’t leave the hood,’ you gotta leave the hood, bro,” The Miami rapper stated. “You gotta leave the hood you can’t be in the hood, bro. Cause the hood is like you gotta understand when you come from them ends, it’s struggle. When you come back to the hood, you come back to bless the hood. You don’t come back to chill in the hood and have police cause you got enemies. The more famous and richer you get, it’s the more angry that the people didn’t like you and you sitting there in their face all day.”

Shmurda went on to say,

“You think police won’t get mad? ‘I was locking this n-gga up and now he’s walking in with all this jewelry. If they’re mad at the dope dealers, what the fuck you think they gonna do to us?”

Bobby Shmurda isn’t the only rapper to share his opinion about the hood. Many other rappers have also shared their experience returning to the hood, revealing negative outcomes. According to FM Hip Hop, back in April the rapper sat down with DJ Akademiks on his “Off The Record” podcast. He told Akademiks that all rappers have worked with a snitch at least once in their career.  Shmurda noted, that people in the industry are not street but are civilians. Seems like the rapper has set his priorities straight since coming home from jail, as he is staying out of the hood while keeping a close eye on those around him in the industry.

JaRule Praises Lil Kim For Being The Trailblazer For Female Rappers

JaRule is giving credit where it is due. In a recent interview on The Breakfast Club, the rapper shined a light on one of the original female MCs in the game, Lil Kim. “Let’s talk about Lil Kim,” JaRule said. “When you look at the Cardis and the Nickis and the Megans — every female. And then go listen to the Hard Core album. I understand why she’s so revered like that. That album is crazy. And she’s spitting on that album. She’s going on that album! So I get it when these females are like, ‘Yo, Kim was it for me.’ I get it now.”

While Lil Kim has not worked with any of the noted female rappers, she still pays respect to most of them, despite having a beef with Nicki Minaj a few years back. In an interview with Joe Budden, Minaj revealed that they both have settled their beef and continue to respect one another. Last year, Lil Kim revealed at the BET Awards that she would be up for a Verzuz battle with Minaj, celebrating the music that both have made that has impacted the world.

Lil Kim Receives Much Praise

Being in the hip-hop game for over 20 years, Kim still receives high praise and influences many. In 2020, Mary J. Blige sat down with Andy Cohen discussing the foundation she has built for female rappers today. “My baby girl, my little sister,” she said. “I mean, one of the most incredible female rappers to open the door for so many women. She’s a trailblazer and one of the biggest rappers [and] most respected rappers in the business.”

In an interview with Issa Rae for her Apple Music show, Saweetie praised Lil Kim’s verse in her song “Not Tonight”. “[It’s] the best bar in history. I like when she says, ‘Tryin’ to impress me with your five G stones / I’ll give you ten Gs, n*gga, if you leave me alone.’ When I heard that, I was like, I felt it. I knew what she meant and that’s just the most boss thing someone could ever say. I love that line.”

Lil Kim continues to set the tone for female rappers.

Coi Leray Claims Her Father Benzino Threatened Her Mother

Unfortunately, Coi Leray is cleaning up some drama with Benzino before her debut album “Trendsetter” releases at midnight on Apr 8. During a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Coi talked about a time during Benzino’s life/career when he was broke.

Benzino is now allegedly threatening Coi Leray’s mother due to the lousy narrative. Coi informed fans publically on Twitter, asking for her father to get help.

Additionally, she says that her father hasn’t celebrated or congratulated her on her debut album.

While they haven’t always seen eye to eye, hopefully, this is just an insignificant bump in their relationship. Check out Coi Leray’s now-deleted tweets about the situation below via TheShadeRoom:

Coi Releasing Debut Album Trendsetter

Coi Leray was on The Breakfast Club to promote her debut album “Trendsetter.” Its lead feature with Nicki Minaj, “Blick Blick,” was a great track to get listeners warmed up. The song hit number 37 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Benzino notably almost fumbled with the feature for his daughter when he teased the collaboration far ahead of release. The album features several other Hip-Hop & R&B stars, including peers like G Herbo, Polo G, A Boogie, Lil Tecca, Fivio Foreign, Lil Durk, NAV, Young M.A, Yung Bleu, H.E.R. & Pooh Shiesty. There are even surprise appearances from Million Dollars Worth Of Game podcast hosts Wallo & Gillie the Kid on the song “Be Me.”

There are many expectations about “Trendsetter.” Some predict that she will make another hit song. Then others brought the hate.

It’s an important night for Coi because albums make careers. Billboard singles come & go all of the time. She already is settled in the industry, but let’s see, this takes her to the next level.

Coi Leray Defends Her Music Against Pusha T

Coi Leray appeared on The Breakfast Club on Apr 6 to discuss various topics. The topics surrounded the career of Coi Leray and her rising fame.

Somehow, Pusha T’s name came up during the interview. Charlemagne also stated that Coi’s music is not for his taste. Still, Coi Leray wanted to convince Tha God that her music would suit him.

Coi Leray’s Interview

The interview started with discussions surrounding her career and how Coi Leray released “No More Parties” only a year ago. She then talked about how she sometimes has to make mental sacrifices for her music career. She makes sure to worry about herself, but it can be difficult.

Also, one of the ways Leray finds comfort is by sucking on her thumb. This habit then lead the artist to start wearing braces. After these random questions, the focus also turned to Coi Leray and the release of her first album, “Trendsetter.”

DJ Envy, Angela Yee, and Charlemagne Tha God have had a chance to listen to the album on Apr 8.
Angela and Envy expressed which songs stood out. Angela Yee brought up the piece “Overthinking,” which features the artist H.E.R.

The Misunderstanding

Coi Leray asked Charlemagne if he enjoyed the composition. His answer made her pause for a second.

“I like certain songs. Listen, I’m 43. I don’t think your music is for me,” Charlemagne Tha God said

Coi then wanted to know who Charlemagne was listening to. He brought up Pusha T. Leray compared her album cover to Pusha T’s, saying he is “black and white.” In contrast, her album cover is “bright and colorful.”

“Tap over to Trendsetter and get some spark in your life,” Coi Leray said.

Charlemagne did later say that some tracks were for him. This did not get Coi off his back. She pressed him some more on his stance to back Pusha T over her. “You don’t play Pusha T on the radio. Why don’t you play what you listen to?” Charlemagne took up for Pusha and said they would play him on the radio the same day.

According to Charlemagne, Pusha T is in rotation at Power 105. He also stated that she would be lucky to have “longevity” like Pusha T. The topic changed quickly when Angela focused on if men like listening to women rappers.

Gunna’s Riding The “Pushin P” Wave As He Gears Up To Release A Book

Gunna is riding the success wave as he is getting ready to release a children’s book titled 6 Things I Do To Be Pushin P

This past weekend, the drip master himself shared the news via his Instagram story. “Me and B Wright got a book … on Pushing P,” Gunna shared on his IG Story.

While the P was being pushed by adults, Gunna did also not leave the kids out. This book will share 6 ways to become P, such as loyalty and sharing with others to help them succeed. Gunna is sure to push the young generation in the right direction. Considering the artist’s success, he may have a thing or two to lend in the mentoring category. While there is no set release date or where the book may be purchased, the anticipation is high.

The Success Of “Pushin P”

“Pushin P,” which features Future and Young Thug, has undoubtedly become one of the most popular Gunna’s songs from his latest album, DS4Ever. Gunna then did not fail to drop knowledge while the world in a frenzy questioned the now well-known phrase meaning.

On The Breakfast Club, he shared that the “P” stays for “Playa.” He painted a colorful picture as he playfully schooled Charlamagne Tha God on its proper use. Here’s a quick snippet of his explanation below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBdRIfJrxkE

Twitter also had a field day with the Pushin P movement. Fans have created groups, and IHOP has even weighed in on what P’s they’re pushing.

The legendary soul singer Smoky Robinson even showed he was down with the movement.

How do you Push Ps?

Wunna has also let everyone know there is a broad usage of the term. He then comically let on that paying for things you can not afford is not P.

“When you go to rent in these things, you Kickin P. When you go to on the Catch and spending your hard-earned, you Pushin P,” he continued. “P don’t just mean Playa. P also mean paper too. You could be pushing this P with paper too.”

Gunna also even let off a sweet tweet that was designated for the ladies.

While the song debuted at #7 on Billboard’s Hot 100, this new catchy phrase lets us know there are many ways to push P.

Want more Gunna news? Check out what he has also been up to lately here.
