YNW Melly Trial: The Latest Updates

A lot is happening at YNW Melly’s trial. Whether it’s the extensive coverage or the extensive of curious events, there’s something to report almost every day.

So, here are some latest updates, in case you missed it or just lost a thread, considering how much is going on right now.

Why Is YNW Melly On Trial?

The “Murder on My Mind” artist is facing charges of two counts of murder. In 2018, YNW Melly was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he allegedly shot two of his friends, Anthony Williams and YNW Juvi. The artist then allegedly staged a crime scene to make it look like a drive-by shooting. With the crime occurring on Oct. 26, 2018, YNW Melly got arrested on Feb. 13, 2019, and has been in custody ever since.

The prosecution also thinks that the shooting occurred due to some dispute about money and/or a woman. It has now, however, been established so far, as it has not been established if YNW Melly killed two of his friends and staged a drive-by.

Video Shows YNW Melly Hiding In A Suitcase

During the recent hearing, the court presented a video of YNW Melly hiding in the suitcase. While recording himself, the artist claims he will turn himself in. “My name is Melly, and I’m going to turn myself in,” Melly promised in the short video. “But I’m in a suitcase because these c****suckers are arresting me, and I want to get on a private jet so they don’t see me.”

It’s unclear whether the video has anything to do with the case itself. It has also not been presented to the jury, likely due to the clip’s unclear context.

Rude Texts

Another piece of evidence, which has appeared during the trial, is texts YNW Melly has been sending to his mother. As the artist’s defense attorney, David Howard, described, “he’s calling her the b-word and all sorts of manner of disrespect.”

However, the same lawyer also expressed concern regarding such evidence being used against the “Murder on My Mind” author. In Howard’s opinion, the texts between Melly and his mother have nothing to do with the court case and only will create a negative image of the artist’s character to the jury.”

“Mothers sitting on that jury are now tainted in their impression of him,” Howard explained.

Case Delayed

As of now, the hearing has paused and will resume on Monday, Jul. 17. The reason for the delay is one of the defense attorney’s health condition.

“There’s nothing anybody can do about it,” Broward Circuit Judge John Murphy explained to the jurors. “You’re sick, you’re sick.”

YNW Melly Lost His Phone Privileges In Prison, Claims He Hasn’t Spoke To His Family In Months!

YNW Melly has been locked up for quite some time, and now he’s calling on other celebrities for help. The rapper has been incarcerated in Broward County, Florida after being arrested in 2019 for allegedly murdering his two friends, Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams. Within the past months, the artist lost his phone privilege and has not been able to communicate with his family.

According to Hip Hop DX, on Saturday, December 3rd Melly shared an Instagram post explaining the “mistreatment and discrimination,” he claims he experienced. The “Murder On My Mind” artist revealed the names of the correctional facility employees who were involved in the abuse. He say’s, “As I speak to you from My cell at this very moment I am weeping in the present.” Melly continues, “I have been mute For years about the mistreatment, discrimination and misuse of authority mentally& emotionally abuse, I have been suffering and in fear B.S.O staff Captain Archibald Captain Hubert.” The rapper also called out XO Jean Baptiste and XO Jenkins who have enforced this treatment.

YNW Melly says he has not spoken with the outside world due to losing his phone privileges.

He says on April 8th he was told he was not allowed to use the phone indefinitely. The star claims that captain Archibald Revoked his calls for using another inmate pin to talk on the phone. When inmates get disciplined for this, they are phone restricted for 30 days. However, in Melly’s case, this has been going on for 8 months. He states that no other inmate is being treated this way. Melly hasn’t spoken to family, friends, managers, and others for months. Due to his lack of communication, it’s nearly impossible for the 23-year-old to pay his bills and other necessities.

In the post, he continues to say he is being hidden from the world. “Not hearing my family voices has mentally & emotionally tortured me into deep depression.” He states that he was never given a fair warning that talking on another inmate’s pin was wrong. As the holidays approach, YNW Melly feels that not only is he being tortured but his family as well.

In a final plea for help, the Florida rapper takes action in reaching out to multiple media outlets and other celebrities. He sais, “I am innocent until proven guilty and I have all rights to talk to my family, who ever took my privillages have a personal vendetta towards me… Somebody please help me!! @saycheesetv @akademiks @nojumper @meekmill @kimkardashian @300ent @joebiden.”

YNW Melly Denied Jail Pass After Saying He Has Painful Tooth Infection

YNW Melly has been locked up for over two years and it seems that his judge isn’t making any exceptions to letting him out of jail anytime soon.  The rapper is in need of dental work as he claims he’s experiencing a painful tooth infection.

According to TMZ, Melly is locked up in Broward County jail awaiting trial for his double murder. Documents reveal that the “Murder On My Mind” artist’s full set of diamond dental crowns needs constant maintenance. The rapper‘s lawyer said he wasn’t allowed to have a toothbrush or dental floss, or even have regular dental visits in jail. As a result of not getting the proper care he needs, Melly says his infection developed a painful abscess in his lower jaw. The request reads,

“Mr. Demons has a full set of diamond dental crowns which require constant upkeep and at bare minimum regular flossing and brushing. Mr. Demons is not allowed dental floss or a regular toothbrush or regular dental visits. As a result, he has an abscess in his lower jaw that is creating extreme pain and chronic infection. Mr. Demons has sought medical care… They do not have the ability to properly clean or care for the growing infection.”

While the star has private insurance, his lawyer argued they were willing to pay out of pocket for any treatment. The cost of getting proper care would also include his own transportation and independent security. However, the judge still denied his request.

When will YNW Melly come home?

Back in June, Mellys mother Jamie Demons-King, took to Instagram where she replied to a fan about her son’s release. On her story she said, “He will be home 2022,” insinuating he will be home sometime this year. It was also reported a few months back that the rapper received some good news as his death penalty has been dropped. If convicted, Melly will be sentenced to a lifetime in prison for the murder of his two friends. Keep updated with FM Hip-Hop as we wait for a verdict on Melly’s case.

YNW Melly Has Death Penalty Dropped From Double-Murder Trial

YNW Melly received some good news regarding his sentence on Wednesday. The rapper is no longer facing the death penalty. The “Murder On My Mind” spitter was locked up for killing his friends, YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy.

Several of YNW Melly’s fans jumped with glee at the great news. His loved ones also expressed how this decision has lifted their spirits. YNW Melly’s mom wrote on Instagram, “I’m literally crying real tears you coming home, son @ynwmelly.”

YNW Melly’s trial was initially set for April 4th. However, the court system thought it’d be best to postpone it. Furthermore, both sides had to examine the case given to them thoroughly. In March, Melly’s attorneys attempted to start his trial early. But, to no prevail, this request was denied.

YNW Melly

Complex further explains that “Melly’s legal team ultimately decided to push the trial back due to things like incomplete witness depositions, as the state is still trying to locate potential witnesses, including Melly’s ex-girlfriend Mariah Hamilton and her mother.”

YNW Melly is in jail for allegedly shooting Sakchaser and Juvy while they were in the backseat of his car. Afterward, Melly drove them to Florida’s Miramar Memorial Hospital. This unfortunate event happened in the wee hours of October 26, 2018.

YNW Melly and his accomplice YNW Bortlen attempted to cover their tracks by saying they were killed in a drive-by shooting. With enough evidence, the police discovered Melly and Bortlen’s heinous crimes and locked them up. The two were behind bars by February 13, 2019.

If the rapper is convicted later this year, he’ll get a life sentence. On the other hand, YNW Bortlen seemingly got a slap on the wrist. In August 2021, sources said that Bortlen was released on house arrest after his bond was revoked. YNW Juvy’s family dropped a statement after discovering this news.

"Our family desperately awaits justice in the criminal and civil courts. Unfortunately, these unprecedented times leave us with no control, but we expect the trials of Jamell Demons and Cortlen Henry to occur shortly. We appreciate the State of Florida's efforts to get answers and justice."

YNW Melly Loses Phone Privileges But Still In “High Spirits”

On April 17, Jamell Demons ( a.k.a YNW Melly) took to Instagram to inform his 3.8 million followers that he lost his phone privileges.

Melly went on to say that “I am no longer able to call or have video visitation, that is the reason why no one has received any calls from me.”

The reason why Demons lost phone privileges has not been released. Despite this, he states that he is still in “high spirits” before ending his post by wishing everyone a Happy Easter.

Losing his phone privileges comes less than a week after the judge made the decision to allow photos of Demons’ tattoos to be submitted as evidence. The prosecutors are hoping that his tattoos will help prove gang affiliation.

What We Know So Far About Melly’s Case

In October 2018 YNW crew members Anthony Williams (a.k.a YNW Sakchaser) and Christopher Thomas Jr. (a.k.a YNW Juvy) were shot and killed in Miramar, Florida.

Cortlen Henry (a.k.a YNW Bortlen) drove the wounded to Miramar Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

The crime scene looked like a drive-by but the Miramar Police have reason to believe that this was staged.

The autopsy report showed that Williams and Thomas were most likely shot from inside the car.

During the investigation, Henry and Demons’ phone records showed them being at the crime scene.

In January 2019, Demons was arrested for violating his parole. He spent a month in jail before being released.

Shortly after being released, Demons and Henry were arrested.

Despite reports, Demons states that he turned himself in on February 13, 2019.

“To all my fans and supporters no I did not get locked up in Washington, but I am turning myself in today I want you guys to know I love you and appreciate every single one of ya’ll”

While there is two witnesses and DNA evidence, Demons pled not guilty in March 2019.

Henry was released and put under house arrest in May 2020. Shortly after, he was found at a strip club.

After investigation it was found that Henry did not commit any other crimes other than violating parole.

In the same month, Henry was put under house arrest for the second time.

From lawsuits made by the families of Willams and Thomas, it became clear that there was issues involving how this group of friends would split the money from group funds.

The jury selection process started two weeks ago on April 4.

The trial is expected to start on March 23.

Kanye West Almost Missed YNW Melly ‘Mixed Personalities’ Collab

In 2019, Kanye West did a collab with YNW Melly for the song “Mixed Personalities.” However, that almost did not happen.

Melly’s manager, 100KTrack, appeared on an episode of the Off the Record podcast. In it, he explains the story that made the “Mixed Personalities” collaboration happen.

During this time, West was focused on doing collabs with newer artists. He had first heard of Melly through  CyHi the Prynce. Afterward, he had gotten him and his manager to L.A. to preview the upcoming songs.

“We playing music, [YNW Melly] played one or two records, he’s bumping his head,” 100KTrack said about the session. “Then we play ‘Mixed Personalities’ and he goes crazy. He’s like, ‘Bruh! This is me! This is Ye!…’ So me and Melly looking at each other like, ‘Damn! He fucks with it?’ He’s like, ‘Bruh, I wanna jump on this.’”

YNW Melly’s Problem

Despite how much Ye wanted, 100KTrack could not let him in initially. 100KTrack said that YNW Melly was going to be the only one in the album. However, that is not entirely true. “Ingredients” also had a feature with Fredo Bang. It is possible, however, that that collab was added due to the delay. The issue was mainly that they had already turned in everything and were just doing the finishing touches.

“He’s like, ‘Why? Why?’ I’m like, ‘Cause look bro. Remember, this is his album we’re playing. We already turned in the music. I already got Cole Bennett about to shoot this video. This is one of the main singles that we believe in.’ I’m not tripping. This is three to four weeks of this album about to come out. We already got the structure. We got the video treatment.”

However, as we all know, West pulled some strings. He was able to push back the initial release date of sometime in 2018 to January 2019. The podcast, as well as the music video, can be found below.

100K Track Speaks On YNW Melly’s (Jamell Demon’s) Release Raising Eyebrows

YNW Melly’s fans probably wonder if 100K Track has insider information after posting about Melly’s impending release on Instagram.

A week ago, after 100K tried setting some people straight about what lane he is occupying after the release of “Rings,” he made this statement.

“Stop asking me if I am a rapper now. I’m everything but a hater get on y’all sh*t 2022 all gas and Melly come home in two months y’all better tighten up.”

Is 100K Track’s Statement a Truth?

No proof exists that Demon will see release in two months. So, this proclamation is more of a hope wrapped in positive packaging. 100K is speaking a positive affirmation, and there is no issue with thinking positively. However, there is a clear distinction between fantasy and reality. However, of note, the time Track gives for Melly’s release does at least coincide with the artist’s upcoming trial date.

What do we Understand Regarding Demon’s Case?

Jamell Demons is currently awaiting behind bars for his next trial date. The young artist was arrested in 2019 for double murder. Since 2019 rumors of Melly’s release have been floating throughout the ether. In 2019 this Message was shared on Instagram, which read,

“I just want to let all my fans know that God is real. He has anointed my head with oils. He is the reason I’m coming home.”

As of 2021, he remained in prison, awaiting trial.

Will Demons (AKA Melly) likely be released in March?

There are no discoverable grounds to confirm a March release. The rapper has spent three years in confinement on the current charge. However, he is facing a potential life sentence. Furthermore, the police have damning information, not in Demon’s favor. So, unless 100K knows more than most of us have privy to, his statement about Demon’s release isn’t plausible. Nevertheless, we will find all we need come March. So. Stick with FM Hip Hop as we bring you coverage.

YNW Melly’s Request for Speedy Trial Withdrawn

As of Tuesday, November 30th, Jamell Demons (YNW Melly), who is set to stand trial for double homicide charges, will have to continue waiting for a court date. His attorneys have withdrawn previous requests for a speedy trial, and a court date has been set for March 7, 2022.

What’s Going on with Melly?

A March trial date may seem far, but Melly’s case has a much longer history.

YNW Melly has been in jail after his arrest for the murders of YNW Sakchaser and YNW Bortlen. Reportedly, Melly has awaited his trial for three years from jail.

The current legal saga began on Monday when Melly’s team filed a motion to the court requesting an expedited trial. Though they withdrew their proposal, just a day later, the court finally set a tentative March trial date.

In cases where a prisoner files a motion for a speedy trial, specifically in the state of Florida, the law requires the trial to start within 50 days of the filing. Therefore, given the filing, if the courts had honored Melly’s initial request, he would take the stand before February. However, as the filing was withdrawn, the 50-day rule doesn’t apply. Either way, the trial has been a long time coming, and passionate reactions from Melly’s allies Hotboii and YNW BSlime showed Melly still has supporters outside.

Things Get Real Bizarre

This news seems particularly odd given the swift withdrawal after the filing of the speedy trial request. With a trial date set, the puzzling question remains: why make the initial request? And why subsequently withdraw it so quickly?

Currently, no satisfying explanation exists. However, more may reveal itself as the trial draws closer.

Additional Details Regarding Melly’s Trial

With a trial finally on the visible horizon, Melly’s lawyer is currently working with the prosecution team to select an impartial jury. Additionally, requests have been made for the oral swabs of the rapper’s DNA and his measurements, for use in crime-scene reconstruction.

If things continue along this course, YNW Melly will face charges for two counts of first-degree murder in March.

Where Melly’s Case Begins

The case against Melly hinges on evidence indicating the young rapper had direct involvement in staging the murders of two of his colleagues. As a prior Billboard article reported:

“The investigation, supported by forensic evidence, concluded that Demons shot and killed Williams & Thomas Jr. and that Demons and Henry staged the crime scene to resemble a drive-by shooting.”

Oddly enough, both victims were not only Melly’s associates but reportedly his best friends. In a surprising turn of events, the young rapper, who was 19 at the time, later turned himself in, stating on Instagram,

I am turning myself in today. I want you guys to know I love you and appreciate every single one of y’all; a couple of months ago, I lost my two brothers by violence, and now the system wants to find justice. unfortunately, a lot of rumors and lies are being said, but no worries, god is with me and my brother @ynw.bortlen, and we want y’all to remember it’s a ynw Family I love you @ynwsakchaser1 and @ynwjuvy #freeus,

Melly has since removed the post.

What’s Next?

For now, Melly supporters will need to wait until next year to see the outcome of this continuing drama. No matter what happens, FMHipHop will be there to provide coverage.
