Drake Reminisces About Hearing The Weeknd For the First Time

It’s safe to say Drake and The Weeknd are on good terms again.  After years of their on and off friendship, Drake decided to take a minute to reminisce about the R&B singer.  Known for making hits like “Crew Love”, “The Zone”, & “Live For It”, the Canadian duo has been running the music scene.

Related article: Experience the magic of Drake and The Weeknd on Drake’s Take Care album(2011).

Drake took to Instagram to detail the first time he heard of Abel, aka The Weeknd.  He explains that Oliver El-Khatib played him some of The Weeknd’s early songs in Toronto.  You can tell in the video that Drake is amazed at how far Abel has come.  From listening to his songs and not knowing who he was in his apartment in Toronto and now that same guy is selling out the Sky Dome.

Sky Dome or Rodgers Centre?

Even though the Champagne Papi said Sky Dome, the stadium is actually named Rodgers Centere and has been since 2005.  Guess Drake is not letting that childhood memory go.  Rodgers Centere is home to the Major League Baseball team, the Toronto Blue Jays.  It holds about 55,000 people and all 55,000 seats will be full when The Weeknd performs there tonight.  The Weeknd’s After Hours Til Dawn Tour starts tonight in his hometown.  Fans would have gotten a special treat if Doja Cat was going to perform, but throat surgery in May kept her from being a part of the tour.  Mike Dean, Snoh Aalegra, and Kaytranada will be filling in for Doja Cat.

After Hours Til Dawn Tour

This is the first leg of the tour which is for the United States and Canada.  From tonight until September, The Weeknd will be making 18 stops which include Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Miami, Las Vegas, Chicago, and Los Angeles.  They will announce dates for the second leg of the tour soon. As of right now, we know The Weeknd will be stopping in Mexico, Europe, Africa, and Asia on the second leg.  Drake wants to let anyone know that if you’re trying to make it in the music business, you can.  It’s not impossible for anyone, no matter where you come from or how long it takes.

Doja Cat And “Stranger Things” Collide When The Singers DMs To Noah Schnapp Are Shared

“Stranger Things” Season 4 is all the hype right now. It’s all everyone is talking about. But right now that is not why the show is getting attention. Recently Doja Cat and Stranger Things have come head to head thanks to the “Say So’ singer’s DMs being shared by the show’s teen star, Noah Schnapp.

What Is Going On Between Doja Cat and “Stranger Things”?

Apparently, Doja Cat reached out to Noah Schnapp in an effort to get in contact with his co-star Joseph Quinn.

On Thursday, July 7, Schnapp shared a screenshot on his Tik Tok account of the messages Doja Cat sent him. One of them read “Noah can you tell Joseph to hmu? Wait no. Does he have a girlfriend?” Schnapp then replied telling her to “slide into his DMs.” And the conversation continued with her saying she didn’t know his Instagram and Twitter handle so “he doesn’t have DMs to slide into.” Although he has deleted the post that revealed their conversation. The “Kiss Me More” artist didn’t hold back from sharing her feelings about what he did.

On the same day the situation between Doja Cat and Stranger Things continued. The Grammy winner went live on Instagram. She shared how the invasion of her privacy made her feel. The 26-year-old started by recognizing that Noah is a kid, even though she isn’t sure how old he is. But that didn’t stop her from going in a little on the actor. “But the fact that Noah did that, like went and posted a private conversation between me and him…is like borderline snake s***.” However, she did say that even though he made a poor decision with sharing their DMs. She doesn’t think that depicts who he really is.

https://youtu.be/FpJqWj9xQPA

Schnapp has yet to respond to the “Planet Her” creators live session, but we’re sure he is feeling a little embarrassed.

Remy Ma Is Not Entertaining A Convo When it Comes To Doja Cat.

Tensions have been high between Remy Ma and Doja for a minute. However, a recent response from Remy proves she’s had enough that when it comes to Doja, she’s not even entertaining a conversation.

Sometimes Things are Misunderstood

There is no secret that there is a fair amount of competition in the rap game. Artists calling each other out is not a new thing. However, given this tiff, it is clear that one of the highest insults is when another artist takes a shot at your identity in the game. Though Remy contends her recent statements had no malice, that’s not how Doja saw it.

Remy Ma Keeps It One Hundred

In a March interview, Remy Ma held nothing back regarding her view of where Doja Cat fell in the industry. While on Drink Champs, Remy Ma stated she didn’t see Doja Cat as a rapper. In Remy’s words,

“I don’t think she’s a rapper. Let’s be clear with that. They put her in the rapper category. I don’t think she’s a rapper.”

However, Doja Cat and her fan club weren’t feeling what Remy put out. So, they came back hard.

Remy is Not Feeling It

So Remy recently sat down for another interview. And when the topic of Doja Cat came up, she was more than clear. She wasn’t entertaining a conversation. Why?

Remy didn’t see how her initial point of view initiated such a blowback. Remy was merely speaking the truth based on her experience, knowledge, and what the industry put forth. The artist didn’t take anything away from Doja. Instead, she was upping Doja by complimenting the artist in her mind. While her words may have hit bitter, the intention wasn’t malicious. After all, she did say something good about Doja.

“I don’t think she’s a rapper. But she makes dope records, and I think she’s dope.”

That’s certainly a compliment.

Perspective is Everything

It’s all a matter of perspective. But, Apparently, Doja felt that Remy’s statement was a blow to her identity. As a source notes, Doja has always identified as a rapper. In a 2021 social media response, this is what Doja had to say,

“Don’t ever f***** disrespect me as a rapper. After the last song, I dropped you will respect my pen and that’s f***** that.”

Given that statement, it’s clear that Doja is serious about her label in the industry. But that brings to question what about the awards she’s won in non-rap categories?

Regardless Remy’s Had Enough

Remy Ma is done. After the fallout resulting from a simple perspective, she has no more time or f’s to give when it comes to Doja.

“Don’t even bring her up. I thought I was giving [her] a compliment. Her whole entourage or fan base came for my life. I was like ‘I thought I said something good!”

So, who can blame her?

Whether Remy is correct or Doja is irrelevant. Both contributors to the culture are entitled to their perspectives. The bigger question is, why does another’s opinion hold so much weight? If you’re still doing the thing, what does it matter?

Doja Cat Expected To Take Over BET Awards

The Billboard-winning superstar, Doja Cat is so good at turning heads and catching the public’s attention! The star continues to shine in each award show. Doja leads the BET Award nominations with six nods.

Other than topping this year’s Billboard Music Awards, the 26-year-old achieved her first Grammy in April, where she won Best Pop Duo/Performance for “Kiss Me More” feat. SZA. Taraji P. Henson will host for a second time at the BET Awards. The collab was not only nominated for Best Collaboration but also Video of the Year. “Planet Her,” is also up for Album of the Year, and the artist is also a contender for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, and BET Her for “Woman.”

Although Doja Cat seems to have an abundance of support from her millions of fans, there has been some controversy about what genre of music she resides in.

Since Doja Cats rise to success, many have been curious as to what kind of music the star releases. Many believe Doja should be called a rapper, others say her style is more Pop or Hip-Hop. While Wale praised her for being one of the best female rappers, Remy Ma doesn’t seem to agree.

According to an interview with Elle Magazine, The “Get Into It” artist considers herself Hip-Hop at heart. Someone who was raised listening to 90’s legends such as Busta Rhymes and Lauryn Hill, Doja says, “I’ve rapped since the beginning, and I really couldn’t even sing that well to begin with—I got a lot better,” she states. “I use my voice as a tool to create these worlds, and it’s fine if people think that I can’t rap.”

Doja Cat faces criticism all the time will continue to face competition in the Best Female Hip-Hop Artist category at the BET Awards as Cardi B, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, and Saweetie are all nominated as well. She also recently announced her new music video arriving this week! Check out a clip of “Vegas” (From the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack ELVIS) below, which drops Friday, June 3rd.

The Hip-Hop And R&B Version of Heardle Is Here

First, Wordle, then its spinoff musical, Heardle, now gets a hip-hop spinoff. The new game, Ya Heardle, follows the same format as the original Heardle. ’90s R&B and hip-hop fans can finally guess throwback songs in as few tries as possible. Sean Campbell created the new edition. Campbell says that he started on the game quickly after getting instructions from the Reddit community.

“I went on the Heardle Reddit page, and someone linked to instructions to make your own version on Glitch, Campbell said. He continued to speak about his inspiration for making the game. “I wanted a version for songs that were probably never going to make their database, he says. He continues, “I was going to do only hip-hop, but mixing it with R&B gives me more songs to work with and makes it a little harder.” The latest answer is 2Pac’s “If My Homie Calls.” Hip-Hop and R&B fans can play the new game here.

Other Editions

There are over 100 different variations of Heardle. Like Campbell mentioned, Zayn, there are also ones for Doja CatTaylor SwiftBTSBillie Eilish, and many others. It has even extended to video game soundtracks as well. These include Final Fantasy 14, Zelda, and Guild Wars 2. With music, words, and video games, there are also some variants in other industries.

Film Inspired Heardles

There are also film editions for the moviegoers. The game is Box Office Mega. Players get a specific week of a box office weekend and have to guess the five top films that weekend. There is also one called Framed. After looking at different pictures from a movie, players are also given five guesses to guess what the film is. It would not be surprising to see more created for other industries at this rate. It provides a sense of community to fans of specific works, musicians, and films. More variants will come soon enough.

Haters Inspire Doja Cat’s Next Album

Doja Cat intends to prove that she is a rapper at heart to her haters. Doubters have been attacking the Grammy winner ever since she put out her first album. First, the haters didn’t see her as a musician, and now Doja is also being questioned as a rapper. Doja Cat wants her next album to be a double album to quiet the outside noise and mostly feature her rapping skills.

The success of “Planet Her” Despite Haters’ Doubts

Doja Cat is still enjoying the success of her third studio album. The project was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year at the 64th Grammy. The album also went on to win the Top R&B Album at the Billboard Music Awards.

“Kiss Me More” ft. SZA, a single from Planet Her, won an American Music Award, a Grammy, and a VMA. As an artist, Doja Cat won Top R&B Artist and Top R&B Female Artist at the Billboard Music Awards and the Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist at the American Music Awards. The doubters have been proven wrong because Doja keeps winning.

Doja Cat’s Next Album Is For The Doubters

Planet Her had an R&B and Pop feel to it. The collective agrees with this, but Doja Cat wants her next album to be a rapper’s delight.

“I’ve rapped since the beginning, and I really couldn’t even sing that well, to begin with—I got a lot better.”

Doja Cat tells Elle that she grew up listening to Busta Rhymes and Lauryn Hill. It isn’t hard to see their influences in Doja Cat’s artistry. Doja Cat creates magnificent visuals through her fashion, music videos, live performances, and music. Her music pushes the boundaries just like the musicians she listened to. Haters dislike the limitations she goes against.

The Cat has had ideas about who she would like to work with on her next album. Complex reported that Doja would love to work with 9th Wonder and Jay Versace. The news came from Doja Cat herself during an IG Live session. Hopefully, these three will then develop something great for us to jam through our speakers.

https://twitter.com/DojaNews/status/1474614699446603778?t=oUBsZZCQwIxluMBMrktm9Q&s=19

Doja Cat continues to evolve from being an internet sensation to an award-winning artist. Can’t wait to see what’s next for her.

Pop Artists Are Feeling Pressured To Produce Relatable TikTok Content

From Halsey to Ed Sheeran, the hottest pop stars of this current generation are speaking out against their labels.

The social media platform TikTok has changed from a simple vessel for jokes and skits into a legitimate promotion tool for the music industry. Several hit songs such as ‘Savage’ by Megan Thee Stallion and ‘Say So’ by Doja Cat got their initial push through the smash-hit app. The formula is simple but proving extremely effective. Traditional radio relies on slow repetition, but a user can scroll through hundreds of TikTok’s a day. Combine that with the way the videos automatically repeat themselves, and you’ve got a recipe for an earworm.

The success of TikTok apparently hasn’t gone unnoticed by record labels. Celebrities are beginning to make their own verified accounts. Even top A-listers like Beyonce and Rihanna have official pages. On paper, this sounds perfect as a way to promo music and interact with fans. However, some singers are starting to express their discontent with the app.

A unique problem for today’s pop divas

A post on Twitter went semi-viral earlier this week. featuring four singers openly admitting to being forced to make TikToks by their label. The post featured Halsey, Charli XCX, Fka Twigs, and Florence the Machine all expressing annoyance with this marketing strategy. “my record company is saying that i can’t release it [a song] unless they can fake a viral moment on tiktok” Halsey’s post reads.

https://twitter.com/alluregaga2/status/1528456671311196160?s=21&t=2i_l_3W8ngX0eATLlhOxqw

The tweet, currently sitting at over 300,000 likes, has garnered a large amount of concern from music listeners. Many Twitter users took note of the constant use of the app to push songs by labels.  Notably, newer artists like Jack Harlow and Yeat oftentimes have to fight the label of “TikTok rapper” due to the role of the app in their notoriety.

While TikTok can be used positively to lead users to new music, it can also lead to a manufactured, inorganic feeling between artists and the public when used the wrong way. It’s certainly an interesting debate for both consumers and creators to think about. “but actually. it’s a problem” musician Claire De Lune explained. “the # of times i’ve heard my actual music get lumped in w “content” on a call…# of times i’ve heard making “more content” in hopes of “going viral” suggested as a strategy…makes me wanna move to the woods &learn how to make gourmet jam or some shit”.

Take a look at the discourse below.

https://twitter.com/diornowhere/status/1528459481256022017?s=21&t=iHfUbFDESCKt-PCTSYuH-g

Just another TikTok scheme?

Several accounts simply scoffed at these complaints, citing them as yet another marketing strategy. The power struggle between an artist and their label is an all too common occurrence. It’s not too far-fetched that these celebs may be having some conflict with the higher-ups. However, some factors do admittedly raise eyebrows. Firstly, the timing of all the posts in such rapid succession. Secondly, the use of TikTok to critique the app itself is a strange choice when other platforms like Twitter and Instagram are available.

“I feel like “the label is making me” thing is also just a format that artists trying to go viral use” tech journalist Taylor Lorenz tweeted.

https://twitter.com/taylorlorenz/status/1528786678428577792?s=21&t=iHfUbFDESCKt-PCTSYuH-g

https://twitter.com/xluvfairyx/status/1528838258708385796?s=21&t=iHfUbFDESCKt-PCTSYuH-g

https://twitter.com/_shamgod/status/1528746850689462273?s=21&t=iHfUbFDESCKt-PCTSYuH-g

At this time neither Capitol Records, Atlantic Records, nor Republic Records have made any comment on their artist’s claims. Whatever the case may be with the validity of their protest, singers and rappers should have the freedom to promote the way they see fit. With the rise of TikTok still extending to the present day, it’s vital to remember that the music, not the promo, is always most important.

Doja Cat Cancels Weeknd Stadium Tour Due To Vaping-Caused Tonsil Surgery

This past Friday (May 20), West Coast rapper Doja Cat made a regretful announcement via Instagram story.

Doja Cat Gets Real About Vaping

“Hi guys,” she typed to fans. “I wanted you to hear it from me first. Unfortunately I have to have surgery on my tonsils ASAP. The surgery is routine but the recovery is going to take awhile due to swelling. That menas I have to cancel my festival run this summer as well as The Weeknd tour. I feel horrible about this but can’t wait for this to heal and get back to making music and create an experience for y’all.”

https://twitter.com/TheWeekndFrance/status/1527758281053245442

Doja has had a particularly packed schedule in her career thus far, with an acclaimed Coachella and Billboard Music Award set being her latest workload. However, this upcoming tonsil surgery is all coming to a screeching halt. The news comes to a set of highly disappointed fans. The 26-year-old originally planned to share the stage with the Weeknd during his 3-month long After Hours Til Dawn Tour. In addition to this, Doja will be missing out on tomorrow’s Hangout Festival in Alabama and The Glastonbury Festival next month.

Troublesome Tonsils

The damaged tonsil hasn’t gone unaddressed by the “Like This” rapper already. Earlier this week, Doja Cat revealed on Twitter that vaping and some other bad habits may have worsened her throat. “Dr. just had to cut into my left tonsil,” she tweeted. “I had an abscess in it. My whole throat is fucked so i might have some bad news for yall coming soon. I was taking fuckin antibiotics but forgot that i was taking them and then i drank wine and was vaping all day long and then I started getting a nasty ass growth on my tonsil so they had to do surgery on it today” she continued to explain.

Following this warning, Doja tweeted extensively about her struggle with vaping addiction.

Obviously, Doja’s health is the most important thing. Still, this left many diehard fans feeling left high and dry.

Nonetheless, this unexpected break may be just what the ‘Hot Pink’ rapper needs. Since 2022 kicked off, Doja hasn’t been shy about her disdain for a life in the spotlight. She even went so far as to quit music before quickly restricting that statement.

With the upcoming months being all clear for her, hopefully, Doja can take this time to recalibrate and reflect. In the meantime, you can join social media to wish Doja Cat a speedy recovery.

Doja Cat May Have Some Bad News Following A Recent Surgery

Doja Cat won quite a few Billboards Music Awards, however, the artist opens up about her health issues.

According to Hot New Hip Hop, the singer expressed that her doctor had to cut into her left tonsil due to having an abscess in it. Yesterday, May 19th, Doja tweeted, that she may have some bad news for us as her throat is in bad condition. She explained she developed a nasty growth on her tonsil. Her tonsils were so bad, she even admitted to being on antibiotics before the Billboard Music Awards but forgot she was taking them.

https://twitter.com/DojaCat/status/1527418414964191232

Doja Cat is in some serious pain as her situation heats up on Twitter.

The Billboard winner tells us the growth started as she was drinking wine and vaping all day before the show.  She says, “He poked up in dere with a needle twice and then sucked all the juice out and then he took a sharp thing and cut it in two places and squoze all the goop out in dere. i cried and it hurt a lot but im ok.” She then expressed that she will be removing her tonsils as she’s trying to quit vaping. One fan replied she should just throw the vape away. This comment didn’t slide with Doja.

Doja Cat replied to the fan saying, “Throwing them away just instills panic. I’m addicted but I’m not weak,” she said. “I was literally staring at my vape today that normally i’d hit a thousand times a day and hit it two times instead. I’ma try to go cold turkey for now but hopefully my brain doesn’t need it at all by then… so foh with that ‘THROW IT AWAY THEN QUEEN’ sh*t. that doesn’t help anybody and it just sounds condescending to anybody whos actually struggling w nicotine addiction. ive tried all that throw it away sh*t before. doesn’t work.”

https://twitter.com/DojaCat/status/1527424575822106625

Hopefully Doja Cat makes the healthier decision to quit vaping completely, while having support from many of her fans as she also thanked them for a positive reassurance.

Doja Cat Emerge-Winner At The 2022 Billboard Music Awards

Many celebrities attended the 2022 Billboard Music Awards at the Las Vegas MGM Grand Garden Arena together with Doja Cat. The Weeknd, Travis Scott, and Morgan Wallen came together to glitz and glamour the event. Still, the event’s highlight was Doja with her talent and her most talked-about style statement.

Doja Cat Wins In Four Billboard Categories

Doja Cat’s album “Planet Her” bagged the singer the top R&B artist, R&B female artistand the best R&B album nominations. Overall, she was nominated for 14 categories, including all the above and the top viral song (“Kiss Me More”). She continued her winning spree in four categories.

Doja Cat’s Red Carpet Look

It was her talent but also Doja’s red carpet look that garnered the most attention. She wore a black, angular, chest-baring Schiaparelli gown with a sheer beige chest wrap worn over Agent Provocateur gold metallic pasties. Her accessories include a matching gold metallic Saturn-shaped purse, and a pair of gilded ear-shaped earrings adorned with several others.

Doja wore a set of nail rings designed by Bijules: black heels, a gold foot-shaped toe cap, and silver toenails. The world-famous rapper styled her hair in a sleek high ponytail. On uncovering her nipples on the Billboard Music award red carpet, she said, “You can have them out, and it’s not a crime.”

Thanking The Fans

After winning at the Billboard Awards, Doja Cat also thanked her fans, saying, “I’m very grateful, and I’m excited to see more people win.” The artist also mentioned she feels “wonderful to be here tonight with everybody, and, yeah, thank you, mom, and, yeah, that’s it.’

Doja’s Music Trajectory

Doja Cat’s trajectory to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 is unique. She had her first hit, “Say So,” coming in collaboration with Nicki Minaj. Dr. Luke, one of the most successful producers in pop, signed Doja, but the internet really made her hugely popular. Earlier this year, the artist also won her first Grammy. Doja Cat and SZA’s “Kiss me more” single shared the best pop duo/group performance award.
